Amazon.com: "Know Your Failure"
merrie
by merrie  8-16-2008
 * "A total waste of time and money. If you are thinking about buying this book, you'd get more enjoyment in tossing the money out the window of a car at 60 mph and watching it flutter in the wind rather than be tortured by the vacuous content of this work. Worst of the worst books I have ever read." * "Actually full disclosure my (very liberal) sister bought it as a gag birthday gift. ..One of the most damning things I can say about any book is that I found myself day dreaming while I was reading it; I was that bored. I found it difficult be read because Speaker Pelosi has perfected the art of using a bunch of words but not actually saying anything." * "I guess the real message to America's daughters is "Don't grow up to be an angry, bitter, botoxed anti-American liberal." * "I just finished reading this book. It was very hard to get through. I found it poorly written as well. With respect to what she wrote, I find none of it believable."

Social Science is not Science
willhelm
by willhelm  8-1-2008    3
"Their desire to hold on to that illusion causes them to resist many sorts of new information which conflict with their ideas. That is very human, but it ain't science. Indeed, what goes on in the social sciences would make for a fascinating sociological study." I have long held the view that social sciences are profound bullhockey, if I may use a technical term. If you research the foundations of these "disciplines" you will find that they are all based in a materialist foundation and seek to confirm that foundation through the masterful manipulation of descriptive and inferential statistics. It is time we recognize that sociology and much of the psycho-pop babble we are subjected to is nothing more than materialist propaganda.

"Generation Kill" brings the Iraq war to the TV viewer
papananook
by papananook  7-21-2008
From the producers of "The Wire" With its $550 billion budget and 1.5 million troops, the military might seem a mechanized colossus of precision-guided violence, give or take a few bad apples and errant artillery shells. But if you have served in the military or written about it from the inside, you know that on the unit level it is filled with men and women of vastly different motivations and skills. The Marines in Generation Kill are intelligent and dimwitted, panicked, sensitive, racist, comic, homicidal, brave. It is a wonder when things go according to plan. "You know what happens when you get out of the Marine Corps?" says one of the characters. "You get your brains back."

Seeds of Current Propaganda found in Reagan Era
papananook
by papananook  6-30-2008
Enduring Skills Beyond these individuals, the manipulative techniques that were refined in the 1980s — especially the skill of exaggerating foreign threats — have proved durable, bringing large segments of the American population into line behind the Iraq War in 2002-03. Only now — with more than 4,100 U.S. soldiers and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dead — are many of these Americans realizing that were manipulated by clever propaganda, that their perceptions had been managed. For instance, the New York Times recently pried loose some 8,000 pages of Pentagon documents revealing how the Bush administration had manipulated the public debate on the Iraq War by planting friendly retired military officers on TV news shows. Retired Green Beret Robert S. Bevelacqua, a former analyst on Murdoch’s Fox News, said the Pentagon treated the retired military officers as puppets: “It was them saying, ‘we need to stick our hands up your back and move your mouth for you.’” [NYT, April 20,

10 Wise sayings
boozich
by boozich  3-12-2008
To exert his power in doing good is man's most glorious task - Sophocles. There are three things to beware of through life: when a man is young, let him beware of his appetites; when he is middle-aged, of his passions; and when old, of covetousness, especially - Confucius. Be modest and simple in your deportment, and treat with indifference whatever lies between virtue and vice. Love the human race; obey God- Marcus Aurelius.

Peter Chamberlin: Judgment Day
Rasmus
by Rasmus  12-8-2007
Further excerpts: The criminal producers of our horror movie/psy-war operation intend to establish a new world order based on the ashes of the old. Their utopian world will be a world without conscience or morality, as it will be built upon the deaths of billions, who will have been harvested in the final act of this terrible horror script. Their perfected world (based on death) of unlimited profit to a very limited elite will come into being when Bush gives the order for the attack upon Iran. The world has been transformed by Bush’s war strategy into a very unstable swirling cauldron of pent up fear and hatred. The decision that he has made to escalate the wars (when his version of diplomacy visibly fails), seeking vindication through the total destruction of all opposition, is a suicidal decision.

Storms, Earthquakes and Secret Warfare
blueridge
by blueridge  11-19-2007    3
The "Pentagon's New Map" targets certain regions of the world for "regime change", including South America and largely Islamic-influenced areas abroad. It is interesting that the Indonesian Tsunami, major quakes in Iran and the middle east, the typhoons in Bangladesh, fall within the Pentagon's New Map. As a previous clip showed a typhoon in Bangladesh in 1970 killed 500,000 people. The Sumatra Tsunami killed over 200,000 while the Navy DID KNOW that a tidal wave was in route yet did not warn the Islanders. (Navy has major base in Diego Garcia; advanced technolgoy and communications make the idea of "no warning" incredible). Note Brzezinski's quote above about using Tesla technology to work earthquakes and weather modification is not new, and that it is being used to some extent by secret military applications (U.S. and Russia) has been admitted. The article should be noted also in that if it is possible to "steer" hurricanes (or foment them) puts Katrina in another light.

U.S.A.: Robot nation
Rasmus
by Rasmus  11-15-2007
The ultimate American robot is The Terminator, an indestructible killing machine that stops at nothing. If only America had a mile-long assembly line to crank out millions of Schwarzeneggers, its army wouldn't be short of robotic soldiers. Robotic soldiers are only a stopgap measure until real robots can be perfected. Israel already employs bulldozer robots and, on the border with Gaza, a series of wall-mounted machine guns remote-controlled by female soldiers. Fully autonomous robots that make their own decisions about lethality are high on the US military agenda. One battlefield soldier could start a large-scale robot attack in the air and on the ground. This is dangerous new territory for warfare, yet there are no new ethical codes or guidelines in place. I have worked in artificial intelligence for decades, and the idea of a robot making decisions about human termination is terrifying.

Top 10 Reasons Alexander the Great Was, Well ... Great!

Above all things, Alexander was a great military commander, leading his troops into every encounter. A bit of an over-achiever, the historian Plutarch wrote that Alexander wept upon learning that the universe was infinite. When asked what was wrong, he replied: "There are so many worlds, and I have not yet conquered even one."

Sermon on the Mount - borrowed/derivative/plagiarized ???
righthand
by righthand  10-22-2007    18
"Christians often associate parables exclusively with Jesus and believe that he invented a new method of teaching. But anyone familiar with the Talmud will recognize Jesus' parables as the common form of rabbinic expression in the Second Temple period. Jesus was a trained rabbi who thought like a rabbi, taught like a rabbi, and spoke like a rabbi. "Jesus instructs us to love our enemies, it is based on the biblical precedent of Exodus 23: 'If you meet your enemy's ox or your enemy's ass going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. "Jesus famously says: "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." This pronouncement is actually a classic rabbinic statement. "Ann Coulter's stomach-turning comments about how Jews "needed to be perfected" by becoming Christian demonstrates not only her own bigotry but her abysmal ignorance of the teachings of Jesus. Judaism was the faith practiced by Jesus for his entire life, and from which he never wavered."
