POPSHome Pregnancy Test Since pregnancy kickstarts production of the hCG hormone (human chorionic gonadotrophin), a home pregnancy test is aimed at detecting its presence in urine, and each year consumers spend more than $175 million on them. While a home pregnancy test can be effective, hCG beta blood tests done at your doctor's office are in fact substantially more sensitive (they can detect hCG within ten days of conception) and, they give quantitative results (not the qualitative yes/no of a pregnancy test).

POPSIs it so different? "After the female deposits her unfertilized eggs into the male, the outer shell of the eggs breaks down, and tissue from the male grows up around the eggs in the pouch. After fertilizing the eggs, the male closely controls the prenatal environment of the embryos in his pouch. The male keeps blood flowing around the embryos, controls the salt concentrations in the pouch, and provides oxygen and nutrition to the developing offspring through a placenta-like structure until he gives birth." " in some species of pipefish, the sex roles are reversed because males become pregnant and there is limited brood pouch space. So females compete for access to available males, and thus secondary sex traits (such as brightly colored ornamentation) evolve in female pipefish instead of males."

POPSThe Most Important Story So Far This Month I join you in your anger, disgust and dismay. I'ts the best news corporate can buy! (0.00 / 0) Between this story and the Matthew McConaughey placenta spectacular, I thank God I've lived long enough to remember what journalism used to be. Including the status of our servicemen and women, there are so many issues to be tackled and this...is the best that media can come up with? I'm too flustered to read more than the headlines of this swill. Specifically gave up on network television news 2 years ago...is print next?

POPSWere Ancient Viruses a Key to Human Evolution? Heidmann believes that without endogenous retroviruses mammals might never have developed a placenta, which protects the fetus and gives it time to mature, which eventually led to live birth, one of the hallmarks of human evolutionary success over birds, reptiles, and fish. Eggs cannot eliminate waste or draw the maternal nutrients required to develop the large brains that have made mammals so versatile. “These viruses made those changes possible. It is quite possible that, without them, human beings would still be laying eggs.”

POPSClues To Ancestral Origin Of Placenta Emerge In Genetics Study They found that the placenta develops in two distinct stages. In the first stage, which runs from the beginning of pregnancy through mid-gestation, the placental cells primarily activate genes that mammals have in common with birds and reptiles. This suggests that the placenta initially evolved through repurposing genes the early mammals inherited from their immediate ancestors when they arose more than 120 million years ago.

POPSwierd science This is completely fucking wrong . Women have worked so hard for year to be concidered "equal" to men , and the only thing they have never been able to take away from us is our ability to carry a child . Untill now atleast.... I don't completely disagree with using the procedure for like transgendered people , but I do think a 100 % real man should definitly not be able to carry a baby. In my opion , theres just no point to it really. I think that if we have the technology to do this , then why do we not have cures for things like cancer, aids, or diabetes even? Simple.... we do , its called population control .

POPSIdentical twins lead to leukaemia breakthrough
The twins have been crucial to the new research, as they are genetically identical but one has developed cancer whereas the other has not. The scientists found that the girls’ blood contains genetically abnormal cells known as pre-leukaemic cells. These were formed by a mutation known as translocation, in which two genes fuse to create an abnormal new one. This random event happened in a single cell in one of the twins while they were still in the womb. As the twins shared a placenta, the original mutant’s daughter cells populated the blood of both sisters. The discovery will help doctors to monitor Isabella, and children like her, so that further genetic damage in her pre-leukaemic stem cells is caught early. By the time she is 14, her pre-leukaemic stem cells should have died naturally. “Pre-leukaemic cells are still evident, so the sword of Damocles is still hanging there,” Dr Ancliff said. “Hopefully, we will see them disappear.” (Times)

POPSHitler was even sicker than you thought After the war, US intelligence officers discovered that Morell was pumping Hitler with 28 different drugs, including eye-drops that contained 10 percent cocaine (up to 10 treatments a day), a concoction made from human placenta and "potency pills" made from ground bull's testicles. But despite the barrage of medicines, Morell's diaries (which were recovered from Germany and are kept in the National Archives in Washington, DC) make clear that the bouts of "agonizing flatulence" remained a regular occurrence.

POPS"Rocky"--Unborn Twin Fights Doctors to Live and Wins
Doctor's recommend killing him, saying he was too "weak". They said he might hurt health of twin brother. They sought to terminate his life before birth. He rebelled and won! Note the fight to survive from the womb--a God-given drive to survive, in self-defense, is entirely active before birth! The story of these doctors to the mother was irrational, especially so late in term. Note that doctors' medical advise must be questioned, instead of believed without consideration. They wanted to kill this late term baby! The mother made a decision, not for her own life, but for the death of one of her sons! Women would never have considered such a decision through history. "Let nature takes its course" is still conservative and more rational advise. "Wait and see what happens" instead of fear-mongered action. Stories like this are many through history, beginning with the struggle of Jacob and Esau in the womb. Modern mothers could add their stories, that do not make headlines.
