POPSDid You Remember The Bags? FINALLY, I've got enough canvas totes for any size trip to the grocery store. So, I feel I'm entitled to say BRAVO to Seattle for showing their city a little tough love... and, yet again, setting an example for the rest of the country. Will America EVER get a clue and catch up with the environmental pioneers? Now, if my husband and I could get into the habit of turning off the TV and computer at night... :(

POPSPaper Bags or Plastic Bags? Everything You Need to Know So, while it's good to have the alternative (and to recognize the innovation it represents), bioplastics aren't quite ready to save us from the paper or plastic debate. Paper bags or plastic bags: the conclusion Both paper and plastic bags require lots and lots of resources and energy, and proper recycling requires due diligence from both consumer and municipal waste collector or private recycling company, so there are a lot of variables that can lead to low recycling rates. Ultimately, neither paper nor plastic bags are the best choice; we think choosing reusable canvas bags instead is the way to go. From an energy standpoint, according to this Australian study, canvas bags are 14 times better than plastic bags and 39 times better than paper bags, assuming that canvas bags get a good workout and are used 500 times during their life cycle. Happy shopping!

Have a look at some of her work Truth and dare At nearly 90, the painter Maria Lassnig is producing the most confrontational work of her life. She talks to Adrian Searle The painter greets us, naked. She holds a gun to her own head, and aims another at her spectators. Maria Lassnig, approaching 90, might be trying to tell us something. You or Me is the title of this self-portrait, painted in 2005 and the first thing you see in her exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery in London. As well as an introduction, the painting is a test: bolt and run, or stay and face the consequences. I plunged right in. POPSStarting Small | San Fran Bans Plastic Bags I think this is the 1st step to something great for the world. I think it's really amazing that a large city is taking a stand starting with something small that in the long run will make a huge difference. I hope that my city (Dallas) soon does the same!
