Plausible, would not be surprised if so at the transparent level. Lot of hidden oil out there. May be just for govt use, but it has been stockpiled, or not mined.

New quantum algorithm helpes solving big problems.
dopesick
by dopesick  11-9-2009
“Large-scale linear systems of equations exist in many fields, such as weather prediction, engineering, and computer vision”, says Harrow. “Quantum computers could supply serious improvements for these and many other problems. For example, a trillion-variable problem would take a classical computer at least a hundred trillion steps to solve, but using the new algorithm, a quantum computer could solve the problem in just a few hundred steps”. The solution could also be applied to other complex processes such as image and video processing, genetic analyses and even Internet traffic control. Sounds pretty good to me!

A Beckean Slip: Confusing the president with bin Laden, while touting theory that Obama is a Marxist
ratilfar
by ratilfar  10-28-2009    1
This is what we'll call a Beckean Slip: An apparent slip of the tongue that is most likely intentional, and at the bare minimum clearly exposes the desire to confuse the public. It isn't the first time Beck has slipped and mixed up Osama bin Laden's name with President Obama's. And it certainly won't be the last. However, it does tend to undermine Beck's subsequent claim to having this high-level, all-seeing mind that is "right" about a whole host of things (that he's actually been wrong about). Indeed, it reveals a confused mind incapable of clearly distinguishing between the president of the United States and a cave-dwelling terrorist. Beck also adds that "I could be wrong" but "I haven't been before"? Um, yeah, except for the dozens of times he actually has been wrong. (Remember when he was predicting that Americans would eventually go for McCain at the polls? That prediction turned out well, didn't it?)

Commercial Real Estate Next Big ‘Shoe to Drop’

Below are the highlights " or, in reality, the lowlights " that lie ahead, according to Celente: The commercial real estate market will collapse; People will be unable to pay their credit cards; Crime will increase as people who feel they have nothing left to lose will begin to commit acts of violence; People will begin to revolt against taxes; and We’re going into a depression, not a recession. Buckle up, America! Looks like we’re in for a bumpy ride. Bob McCarty

Neilsen added: “It must be our prediction that all Higgs producing machines shall have bad luck. rather hates Higgs particles, and attempts to avoid them.” What an odd twist of events in the hunt for the illusive Boson! *LOL* I've seen several lectures by Holger Bech Nielsen and the man has a BRILLIANT mind, there's no doubt about that, although you would be excused, if your first impression of him was, that he was mentally challenged. He's a genius bordering insanity kind of fellow. Anyway, when I first read this article, I thought he must be kidding and making a joke, but that he'd actually write a paper on this theory, makes me think he's deadly serious. Stay tuned, people. Reality is so much weirder than fiction. .:)

WH Science Czar John Holdren: Ice Age Will Kill 1 Billion
merrie
by merrie  10-11-2009    1
Holdren and Ehrlich had previously articulated the theory in their 1973 textbook "Human Ecology: Problems and Solutions" in which they argued on page 198 that the main effect of carbon-dioxide-induced global warming "might be to speed up circulation patterns and to bring arctic cold farther south and Antarctic cold farther north." On page 377, the authors returned to their constant theme: The only way to control a foreseen increasing global food crisis was to control population. Noting that a 1967 presidential science advisory commission had concluded that the solution to the "world food problem" likely after 1985 "demands that programs of population control be initiated now." (Emphasis in original text.) Commenting on the conclusions of the 1967 presidential advisory report, the authors wrote, "We emphatically agreed then, and the situation is even more urgent today." A controversial report released earlier this month by the Congressional Budget Office, or CBO,

In Crazy American Dictatorship Prediction News
merrie
by merrie  10-1-2009    1
He was the most intelligent person we’ve had in that position for a long time. But he’s inexperienced … “ “Most intelligent for a long time” seems like a bit of stretch. Even so, old codgers, if they know nothing else, usually know that having intelligence without experience is like knowing how roller skates work without ever having been on them. That’s why they’re always grousing about young whippersnappers. Vidal’s example shows it’s never too late to learn from your mistakes, though when you read on, you’ll see he hasn’t. Meanwhile, in other crazy American dictatorship predictions, there’s this guy on the right side of the aisle who also thinks U.S. military officers will be staging a coup soon. The column by John L. Perry, who I managed to avoid encountering before he lost his mind, got yanked by NewsMax but most of it is here at The Moderate Voice. http://themoderatevoice.com/48019/newsmax-calls-for-a-military-coup-in-u-s/

Administration Privately Admits Cap-And-Trade Could Cost Families $1,761 A Year: FOIA Documents
merrie
by merrie  9-16-2009    2
So there you have it, from an internal Treasury Department document that cap-and-trade could generate federal receipts, i.e. tax revenue, in the range of $100 to $200 billion a year. Does that cost sound familiar to you? The Heritage Foundation has long predicted that: "The annual cost of emissions permits to energy users will be at least $100 billion by 2012 and could exceed $390 billion by 2035." This raises a whole other issue, that the $100 to $200 billion estimate by Treasury has no date or timeline of any kind. While Heritage follows the trajectory through to 2035, and even to 2050, the Treasury Department doesn't provide any further analysis or calculations. In a different memo, prepared by President Obama's transition team after the election, they throw this out there: "Economic costs will likely be on the order of 1% of GDP, making them equal in scale to all existing environmental regulation." That's another prediction offered up without any details as to . . .

Russian Professor – Collapse Of America Could Begin In Two Months
foxyarse

whereas Obama was just a social worker. His mentality is totally different. He’s a nice person and talks nicely – but he’s not a leader and will take America to a crash. When Americans understand that – it will be like a bomb explosion.” Since 1998, Panarin has been warning of a future disintegration of the United States and the collapse of the dollar. The recent election victory for Japan’s Democratic Party is another sign that the economic collapse of the U.S. is imminent, according to Panarin. “Today I received another confirmation that the collapse of the dollar and the US is inevitable. Japan’s Democratic Party won the election, and I’d like to remind you that its leader has the snubbing of the dollar among his economic plans. In plainer words, he plans to transfer Japan’s monetary reserves from US dollars into another currency. The move will seriously accelerate the dollar’s exchange slump as early as this November. Disintegration will follow shortly,” he s

Ramadan Tradition: Algerian Women Choose Poetry Over Sitcoms
zizzy
by zizzy  9-1-2009
"Even though we knew it had no powers of prediction, we believed the messages that the bouqala gave us," said the elder woman, as her daughter Hind listened attentively. "We were young dreamers, and when a bouqala told us we were going to meet a handsome man, we wanted to believe it." For her part, Hind keeps a booklet in which she has written down all the poems that her grandmother knows. "I think this heritage shouldn't be lost," said Hind. "It has survived for all these years because women have jealously guarded it. That's what I'm trying to do now by noting down all the poems." "I've even recorded several cassettes," she added. "I keep these audio tapes and listen to them constantly. This is my favorite one: The almond tree blossoms in the spring, The Moon discovers its light, Cheeks blush with modesty Before the lover who gives himself away."

Strategically Placed Obstacle Near an Exit Can Speed Evacuations
dopesick
by dopesick  8-28-2009
Andreas Schadschneider, a professor at the University of Cologne's Institute of Theoretical Physics in Germany who has studied pedestrian and traffic flows, says that the obstacle effect has popped up occasionally in the literature for several years. But the new work is, to his knowledge, the first time it has been empirically tested. "So, it no longer remains a vague theoretical prediction, but should be considered a serious effect that might be used for substantial increase in the safety of sports arenas and other large public buildings," Schadschneider says. This is interesting, but the man's got a point when he says: "For one thing, real-world evacuees might be discouraged by the appearance of an obstacle and retreat toward a different exit, which could negate the obstacle's benefits." Indeed, it's a hard thing to simulate. Just hope they're right.

Swine flu could hospitalize 2 million in U.S. this winter
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  8-26-2009
The figures are not a prediction but a possibility, said epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch of the Harvard School of Public Health, who helped prepare the 86-page report that is available on the White House website. Researchers expect the high incidence of infections because the new flu is dramatically different from strains that have been circulating in recent years, so that the bulk of the population has no residual immunity. "This isn't the flu that we are used to," said Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, at a news conference at the CDC headquarters in Atlanta. "We won't know until we are in the middle of the flu season how serious the threat will be."
