Moderate Republicans:"Who is John McCain?"
blueridge
by blueridge  Today 12:29 AM    1
John McCain has a serious problem with his own constituency, moderate republicans. They are crossing the aisle too now, to support his opponent. Chafee said he has spoken with several other moderate Republican leaders, and "there are a whole lot of us deserting." About Palin: As for McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his running mate, "there's no question she's totally unqualified," Chafee said. They would do better, however, supporting third party instead of supporting Obama who will NOT change the neocon "war on terrorism" and foreign policy agenda (where he sounds alot like McCain), and will NOT have policies that improve the economy nor restore our constitutional liberties trampled by Homeland Security policies. (Obama has not promised to rescind any of the Exec orders or legislation pushed by Bush gov't. Traditional conservatives have a problem with McCain too, and are leaning toward Constitution or Libertarian party cand

Senator Byrd Rips McCain on Earmarks
blueridge
by blueridge  Yesterday 11:56 PM
It takes ear-marks to get back our gas taxes for interstate and highways work. For some reason the federal government taxes at the pump alot but then alots and apportions money to be spent by ear-marks. This is a good example of a necessary and justifiable ear-mark. Note the republican Congresswoman Capito supported this very big ear-mark too, and West Virginians (and alot of truck lines who move freight through the state, and help pay for the interstates also through tolls) are not complaining. McCain lost all credibility on ear-marks when he supported the Bailout Bill absolutely loaded with them. Perhaps McCain's biggest hypocrisy on Earmarks is the enormous earmark spending (he supports) for Israel , instead of for Americans.

Palin vs Palin
spirithiker
by spirithiker  Yesterday 11:32 AM
Sarah Palin isn’t in this election to change anything in Washington, she is in this race to win. This is nothing more than a contest to her. Her competitive spirit is dictating that she not back down (an unthinkable act contrary to her very nature) and do whatever it takes to win. The current state of the republican party has degenerated into an unethical, immoral, propaganda generating, smear machine designed more for character assassination than solidifying itself as a viable platform of positive change. John McCain, who I believe is a decent person, has made a grave error in judgment, perhaps blinded by the prize, but nonetheless, has done himself and his party (and therefore his country) a grave disservice. As a result of his choice the world now sees him as selling out his principles for his party. His only hope to win this election (and granted it would be an unprecedented and desperate attempt) is to replace Sarah Palin with, pretty much, anyone else.

As the brief clip demonstrates, instead of the "sordid" characterizaiton spewed forth by the Repubs, the errors appear to be inconsequential. This is what panic and lack of leadership can do to a campaign. The McCain campaign is showing its true colors and the majority of Americans are not saluting them.

Alaska Ethics probe says Pain abused her power
darkeforce
by darkeforce  Yesterday 4:30 AM    1
McCain and Palin are trying to bullshit people, saying that this is a partisan attack, but the public record shows their lie. The probe was started before there was even a hint of a rumour that McCain was going to tap Palin as his VP pick. The committee was bipartisan . That means there was no partisan agenda involved in it. McCain/Palin; they keep lying, and lying, and lying, and lying, and lying... <drum beat in the background>

Alaska Inquiry Concludes Palin Abused Powers
glennbah
by glennbah  10-10-2008
The report was released after Alaska lawmakers emerged from a private session in Anchorage where they spent in excess of six hours discussing whether to release the ethics report into the politically charged scandal. Mr. Branchflower based his finding of abuse of power on Alaska’s Executive Branch Ethics Act, which was established to “discourage executive branch employees from acting upon personal interest in the performance of their public responsibilities and to avoid conflicts of interest in the performance of duty,” the report says.

When The Messiah Speaks, The Youth Will Hear
merrie
by merrie  10-10-2008    6
“Not sure the Obama team will be thrilled about yet another crazy association,” added another commenter on the NewsBusters forums page. Previous reports have documented Obama’s links to Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga, onetime Weatherman bombing suspect Bill Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who proclaimed a black liberation theology for 20 years while Obama was a member of his church, demanding that God “d***” America. “How much more have to come out on Obama before the O-Bots put down the kool-aid and say ENOUGH!” added a third. “Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus,” Cohen said during a one-minute speech on the floor of the U.S. House yesterday. “Pontius Pilate was a governor.” Democrats, including party strategist Donna Brazile and Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., made nearly identical biblical comparisons of the characters in this presidential election Is Barack Obama the Messiah? http://obamamessiah.blogspot.com/

McCain's Chilling Dance With the Dark Side
keeth
by keeth  10-10-2008
Now, I'm not saying that it's wrong to ask questions about Obama's relationship, such as it was, with Bill Ayers. Or with Tony Rezko or with Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Just as it wouldn't be inappropriate to raise questions about McCain's association with G. Gordon Liddy, the convicted Watergate burglar whose colorful history includes telling listeners to his radio show in 1994 to shoot federal agents in the head. When McCain went on Liddy's radio show in November 2007, he told Liddy, "I'm proud of you, I'm proud of your family... It's always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great." The candidates' associations with these people, and their responses to questions about them, give you a view into their judgment. But at a time of great economic uncertainty -- so uncertain that the smartest people in the world are scratching their heads about what to do -- whi
