POPSSen Coburn Says Root Of The Problem Is Political Greed In Congress .....members of Congress chose to ignore the problem and distract themselves with unprecedented amounts of pork-barrel spending.” “Taxpayers who want to ensure that this doesn’t happen again should send a very clear message to Washington that it’s time for Congress to live within its means and restore the principles of limited government and free markets that made this country great. I will do everything in my power to ensure that this bill does not lead us down a slippery slope of European style socialism and slow economic growth. I will also promise taxpayers that I will do everything in my power to block what I expect will be hundreds of attempts by politicians in Washington to continue business-as-usual borrowing and spending in the next Congress. In a time of crisis, American families have to make hard choices between budget priorities. So should Congress."

POPS After Bailout, Economy Will Still Be Lousy
You'll simply be spared some sort of wipe out. Meanwhile, the economy is likely to continue its down drift, with all the hallmarks of a recession. If strained consumers expecting some kind of immediate relief grow cynical when it doesn't arrive, it could even deepen a downturn as consumer confidence quakes once again. So, do the economy a favor, and curtail your expectations. Here's what the bailout will and won't do, in the areas that matter most to consumers: Housing. Homeowners at risk of foreclosure won't enjoy much of a bailout at all. The plan calls for the government to "encourage" banks to help out borrowers who are in arrears by writing off some of the loan amount or negotiating more agreeable terms. But voluntary programs to help stressed homeowners have been marginally effective at best. The ultimate financial fix would be a fast-forward button that rushed us to the end of the housing bust, which underlies the entire meltdown. But that's beyond the government

POPSNo bailouts without accountability Sojourners offers an easy link to send a suggested-form email to your Congressperson and Senators asking them 1) not to give a blank check to the Treasury Sec., 2) to be certain taxpayers benefit more than companies, including a measure to help those most at risk of foreclosure, and 3) to maintain careful oversight

POPS$85 bil. for Wall St., No Ice for Hurricane Survivors Hey, the feds have their priorities. They've been busy making sure that profit stays private, while loss is socialized -- just not all loss. If some Bushie had money invested in your health, that'd be a different story. It's the ownership society, people. If you've got trouble, you're on your own. We are most definitely not all in this together. Unless you're one of the guys in the corner offices in huge glass towers, you ain't squat.

POPSAustralia in biosecurity hotspot Germs don't need a passport. We cannot encase ourselves in a bubble. We cannot stop the evolution of pathogens. Our best defense is in our own immune systems. We need to know more about our immune system, than the germs, because lethal strains can develop at random. Our immune system is something we all have in common.

POPSStop Lying - Check the Facts <"Palin scrapped the bridge soon after she was empowered to do so, (and) her open hostility to it as governor did not please the state’s GOP political establishment. "> I don't even support these people. I just can't stand to see the gang mentality running drunk and loose with the truth.

POPSAs Mayor, Palin Charged Victims for Rape Kits Fannon is Wasilla Police Chief Charlie Fannon. What happens when you don't have enough money to report a rape? Should "not enough money to report a rape" even be a string of words that are ever uttered in the United States? While Palin was saving $14,000 a year tops, she spent $1 million on a "emergency communications center" that "local law enforcement has said is redundant and creates confusion" -- paid for with pork. Nice set of priorities you got there, Sarah...

POPSThe Problem Is Empire (cont.)I am campaigning for and voting for Barack Obama not because I agree with him on every foreign policy issue but because I think we need to unleash the energy of those who fight for justice and housing and healthcare and jobs and the environment here at home. The Obama movement is registering and mobilizing millions of new voters, young people, working class, people of color and poor. The mere fact of their being mobilized will create a pressure for new priorities on the economic home front against the present priorities of militarization abroad. The fact that Obama rose to his present position on the tide of antiwar sentiment forces Obama and the Congressional Democrats to pay greater attention to our needs at home or pay a political price. If he expands the quagmires in Afghanistan and Pakistan, we will have to oppose those wasteful wars as well.

POPSGov. Palin on Family Planning: The Eagle Forum questionnaire 3. Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools? Sarah Palin: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support. 8. Do you support parental choice in the spending of state educational dollars? Sarah Palin: Within Alaska law, I support parents deciding what is the best education venue for their child. 12. In relationship to families, what are your top three priorities if elected governor? Sarah Palin: 1) Creating an atmosphere where parents feel welcome to choose the venues of education for their children; 2) Preserving the definition of “marriage” as defined in our constitution, and 3) Cracking down on the things that harm family life: gangs, drug use, and infringement of our liberties including attacks on our 2nd Amendment rights.

POPSThe Lady Who Can Hunt Caribou And Serve Up The Stew....... Mark Steyn Third, real people don't define "experience" as appearing on unwatched Sunday-morning talk shows every week for 35 years and having been around long enough to have got both the War on Terror and the Cold War wrong. (On the first point, at the Gun Owners of New Hampshire dinner in the 2000 campaign, I remember Orrin Hatch telling me sadly that he was stunned to discover how few Granite State voters knew who he was.) Sarah Palin and Barack Obama are more or less the same age, but Governor Palin has run a state and a town and a commercial fishing operation, whereas (to reprise a famous line on the Rev Jackson) Senator Obama ain't run nothin' but his mouth. She's done the stuff he's merely a poseur about. Post-partisan? She took on her own party's corrupt political culture directly while Obama was sucking up to Wright and Ayers and being just another get-along Chicago machine pol.

POPSLabour's respect for the Forces
How many other people have the courage to say to this Liberal effetism that it is not the dykes and the shirtlifters who are fighting Labour's wars, but family people, men and women with children and a sense of responsibility. When you have an MP, as in Blackpool South, whose record is clearly biased towards efforts to promote homosexuals, then what chance have ordinary folk got? Not a lot. In a world where there have to be priorities, the broadening of division between straights and gay can only lead to resentment on behalf of the majority. The widening of society is being brought about by an over zealot majority in Parliament who actively appear to be promoting everything homosexual, against the normality of human relations. Beware, it is these same misguided groups who want and promote the bringing down of laws which have been put in place to protect children, by advocating the bringing down of the age of sexual consent for children. No doubt Gary Glitter would approve.
