POPSYoung Afghan struggles to adapt after Guantanamo
He says he was grabbed by police who beat him and threatened to kill his family unless he put his thumbprint to paper and admitted he'd tried to kill two U.S. soldiers. The Pashto speaker, largely illiterate, didn't understand their Persian and had little idea what he'd agreed to, he says. A U.S. judge would later agree. That day, a grenade had been thrown at a U.S. Army vehicle, injuring the two soldiers and an interpreter. Jawad was charged with attempted murder based on the confession, held at Kabul's Bagram air base, then moved to the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in early February 2003. But it spills out. He talks about having his hands bound behind his back and being forced to eat like a dog, being kicked, beaten and pepper-sprayed and subjected to excessive heat, loud noise, solitary confinement. POPSMilitary Service Training Ground For Sexual Predation This article is quite comprehensive in scope and deserves a full reading. A few more paragraphs from it follow this remark. "Yet for decades, in spite of the terrible numbers, the military has managed with astonishing success to get away with responding to grievances like Krause's with silence, or denial, or by blaming "a few bad apples." But when individual soldiers take the blame, the system gets off the hook. And it can be shown that the patterns of military sex crimes are old and widespread -- for generations, military service has transformed large numbers of American boys into sexual predators. So it seems reasonable to ask if perhaps there is something about military culture or training or experience that can be identified as causative, and then, perhaps, changed."

POPS "it's a disgrace ". says Mrs Witherall widow of Mr. Witherall. Mr Witherall's family said it makes a mockery of the justice system. However, A Prison Service spokesman said if a prisoner is found to have a mobile it is confiscated and they are placed in solitary confinement and have any privileges taken away. Sounds to me like they didn't find it.

POPSLibs Finally See Bush Admin Prosecuted for "Torture" [FICTIONAL] Oh hell, more liberal porn. Libs should also consider prosecuting America's 43rd president for directly liberating more people (over 60 million) from tyranny than any leader since Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Or how about we prosecute him for saving millions of lives in Africa and for asking the Congress to commit $15 billion over five years ... to turn the tide against AIDS in the most afflicted nations of Africa and the Caribbean? Sound good to you libs? Dream on fools.

POPSOUR TAX DOLLARS GOING TO GADHAFI FAMILY.... "Just weeks after the Gadhafi family celebrated the return of a terrorist responsible for the murders of 189 Americans, the U.S. taxpayer should not be asked to reward them with $400,000," Kirk wrote to the president. "For the sake of the victims' families who have endured so much pain these last few weeks, I ask you to withdraw your Administration's request." The Gadhafi Development Foundation is described by the BBC as "a charity which tries to project a new and positive image of Libya." The U.S. State Department has not issued a response to Kirk's request.

POPSThrowing Shoes: Iraquis Love Their Country, Too. Well written and thought provoking article from the recently-released journalist who threw his shoes at Pres. Bush. Remember, there are 2 sides to every story. I think, if we were in Iraq's situation, we would do the same, at the very least.
