America's gun outrage: 276 people killed or wounded a day

This is what causes non Americans to wonder about the reaction to the Fort Hood incident. There were a lot more killed that day elsewhere. Are those incidents so common that Americans don't notice them? 30000 a year is a lot of people.

Should Kids Recite Flag Code Along With The Pledge Of Allegiance
ljsdesign
by ljsdesign  10-30-2009    4
The first Flag Code came during a time of similar national upheaval. In 1942, Congress passed the first resolution to endorse flag etiquette, including the proper way to fold, display and dispose of the flag. Massachusetts entered the debate in 1970, when Leominister teenager Valerie Goguen was sentenced to six months in jail for using an American flag patch on a pair of jeans. The Supreme Court overturned his conviction in the 1974 case Smith v. Goguen. Goguen still lives in Leominster, and is still adamant that the case is about love for the flag.

Negros Occidental High School
philippinetrivia
by philippinetrivia  10-26-2009
In early 1902, leaders of the short-lived Republica de Negros led by former provincial governor Melecio Severino and former Minister of Justice Antonio Jayme, together with George W. Bettie -- the division superintendent of schools -- exerted efforts to open a public secondary school in Negros Occidental. Despite the indifference of provincial governor to the idea, the school -- originally named Instituto Rizal-- was established due to the influence of the American provincial treasurer over the provincial board.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!?? Barack Hussein Obama says he doesn't want his daughters "punished with a baby" as a result of a "mistake" and uses this rationale to promote teaching his daughters and the young girls in elementary schools around the USA about condoms, birth control, and the whole Planned Barrenhood child sex advocate curriculum. That's what Planned Barrenhood and Obama and the public school system truly are - CHILD SEX ADVOCATES

Hooker-frequenting hammer-and-slash wife-murdering prominent allergist Dirk Greineder seeks a new trial. All that’s before you get to the little remarked-upon regular run of docs who believe in hands-on examinations … whether their patients need it or not. In a lot of those cases, the oath should have been “First, Do No Pharm.” But howbout, “First, Weed Out Barmy.” I know, I know, for every murderous, abusive wackjob there are thousands of caring,

Repost: PCAST H1N1: An Improbable Scenario Requiring More Stringent Non-Medical Measures
nuttyriv3r
by nuttyriv3r  10-24-2009
I had to repost this in response to the strange declaration of a National Emergency. Thanks to the so-called National Response Framework, the Constitution has essentially been suspended. So something nasty is probably about to happen not too far along here in the United States of America. In which time, I pray you will all remember by subtle, underlying message regarding the Kingdom of God which trumps, reigns, and is sovereign over this - the devil's kingdom. It also shall preserve it's residents and those who acknowledge Its sovereignty. This is learned through the grace of God which is the love of all of man where he cares for none to perish, but to come to righteousness through belief in and faithfulness in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, your savior, and my savior. For his promise is true. Amen. With much love, your brother in Christ - David Batchelder.

Man searches for his 4th-grade teacher to thank her
Lexica
by Lexica  10-23-2009    1
More: Though never clinically diagnosed with dyslexia, he's convinced he has a mild form of it. After the fourth grade, he returned to the same teacher for a half-year in the fifth and sixth grades. She became, essentially, his tutor. "I thrived there," he said of their extended classroom relationship. "She took a personal interest in me. She felt I was bright because of some things I excelled at, and so she found different ways to teach me. She didn't require me to read in class. And I was able to write in block letters because I had trouble with cursive and small-case letters. It really built a foundation for me."… Perhaps somebody out there might have a lead, if it's not too late, for Bugbee to express his gratitude face-to-face. That way, when he does purchase that home from Habitat for Humanity — he's on the board of directors — and before he dedicates it to his favorite teacher, he can spell her name correctly.

Wall Street celebrates bonuses, schools beg for supplies
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  10-20-2009    2
We see stories like “Recession Pinches Back-to-School Budgets” http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/10/03/eveningnews/main5361456.shtml and “School budgets dip, class sizes grow” http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32156424/ns/us_news-education/ along with reports of Wall Street reaping fat bonuses after being bailed out with taxpayer dollars. Sure, the bailouts were necessary to keep the economy afloat. Or so we are led to believe. And while the wisdom of a Wall Street bailout is being debated there is no debate about whether or not our schools need more money. Should public schools needs be ranked second to Wall Street because schools don’t turn a profit? Actually, if your head is on straight, you can clearly see how schools do turn a profit, but you need to value education above making money in order to see it. If you do, here’s an online charity that connects you to classrooms in need: http://www.donorschoose.org/

Michael Kimmel: Why I am a feminist
Lexica
by Lexica  10-20-2009
More: The biggest mistake we make is to assume - and men often think this - that gender equality is a zero-sum game. That if women win, then men are going to lose. And I think what we have to do is to show people that feminism is a win-win. I think we can do that at the personal level in terms of the quality of our relationships with our children, our partners and our friends, and also in terms of public policy.

A Maoist in the White House

FTA: "Mao Tse-Tung...engineered the mass murder of anywhere from 50 to over 100 million people. Estimates vary so widely because murder on that wholesale scale is difficult to tabulate, especially in a country as backwards as China was under Mao’s long reign. But there is little doubt that Mao has the grisly distinction of being the greatest mass murderer in history." Very frightening people populate the halls of our government now. To announce to *high school* students that this is your model for how to get things done speaks of lunacy.

I wonder if our tax dollars (via stimulus money) is paying for these new jobs? Perhaps these are the jobs Obama was talking about creating. The text claims they will stress abstinence, but of course the lefties believe abstinence programs don't work, so I doubt there will be much emphasis on that in this indoctrination program.

Protest: mmm, mmm, mmm! Barack Hussein Obama Song
merrie
by merrie  10-12-2009    2
Michelle Malkin . . . Back to Charisse Carney-Nunes. Via ModernConservative, Carney-Nunes is senior vice president of The Jamestown Project, “the award-winning author of the children’s books, I Am Barack Obama (2009),” and according to her biography, “a graduate of Harvard Law School, where she was a schoolmate of President Obama.” I have e-mailed Carney-Nunes for comment as well. The Obama school song video that she taped shows her book featured on an easel next to the children hailing Dear Leader . She promotes her book as a tool that “allows children to see themselves through the inspirational story of President Obama growing up as an ordinary child asking, Who will change the world? Ultimately, he realizes that he will.” She has spread this creepy cult message to schoolchildren across the country.

Was Joe Wilson Right? Free Health Care for Illegal Aliens!
merrie
by merrie  10-8-2009    3
and that every professor of constitutional law knows about , called Plyler vs. Doe (1982), the Court ordered Texas to make the same education available to illegal immigrants as it does to citizens. In so doing, the Court held that: (a) the Constitution protects “persons” ; and (b) “persons” are citizens as well as strangers, people born here and people who end up here, people here lawfully and people here unlawfully; and (c) in the area of social services, whatever benefits the government makes available to the general public cannot be kept away from a class of persons based on their immigration status or that of their parents. It is because of this ruling that Proposition 187 in California, which attempted to do via a referendum what Texas attempted to do via legislation, was invalidated. It is clear from the broad language in the Plyler case that providing an education is in the same class of social benefits as providing health care.

Spin Doctors for Obamacare
merrie
by merrie  10-7-2009    1
The White House event was organized in conjunction with DFA and Organizing for America, Obama’s campaign outfit. OFA and DFA are behind a massive new Obamacare ad campaign, letter-writing campaign, and doctor recruitment campaign. The supposedly “grass-roots,” non-profit DFA is a spin-off of Doctors for Obama, a 2008 campaign arm that aggressively pushed the Democrats’ government health care takeover. DFA claims to have thousands of members with a “variety of backgrounds.” But there’s little diversity in their views on socialized medicine (98 percent want a taxpayer-funded public insurance option) " or in their political contributions. DFA president and co-founder Dr. Vivek Murthy, an internal medicine physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an Instructor at Harvard Medical School, served as a member of the Obama Health Policy Advisory Committee and the Obama New England Steering Committee during the 2008 presidential campaign.
