POPSTaliban in Pakistan bomb Irish-run school My aunt is back (thankfully) in Ireland now after serving for over 25 years as a teacher/principal in Pakistan. This violence is a frightening development, and so very sad for the people of Pakistan.

POPSNo Political Sermons?
The good old days when powerful politicians could stomp all over free speech. "The debate over Jones’s bill and Johnson’s amendment reveals once again how confusing and confused church-state jurisprudence is and has always been and will always be. Both sides claim that the other is violating the separation of church and state. Barry Lynn, a minister who is executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, argues that “We just can’t have sermons converted into political advertisements for candidates,” and he warns against using “church collection plate money on an ad telling people” to vote for one candidate rather than another. " Oh come on. Seperating church and state is one thing. Stopping the clergy from making political statements is a whole different and very dangerous ballgame. Are you going to stop the clergy from speaking on immigration? How about speaking out about the plight of the poor? Should they stop making speeches about genocide? I

POPSAntisocial Behavior May Be Caused By Low Stress Hormone Levels "The differences between participants with severe antisocial behaviour and those without were most marked under stressful conditions. While the average adolescents showed large increases in the amount of cortisol during the frustrating situation, cortisol levels actually went down in those with severe antisocial behaviour. These results suggest that antisocial behaviour may be more biologically-based than previously considered, just as some individuals are more vulnerable to depression or anxiety due to their biological make-up."

POPSJesus Horses and Sarah Palin Sarah "Speaking in Tongues" Palin explains how she believes that dinosaurs and man lived together. This is precisely why the taboo of not discussing one's religion is wrong. This woman's viewpoint needs to be brought out and examined in the light of day. She holds ideas that have consequences in an increasingly technological world. By her own statements, she clearly doesn't have a clue what's going on.

POPSNo Flowers for 9/11 Victims, Stones Thrown at Buses Last week Freddy Thielemans, the Socialist Mayor of Brussels, had prohibited the 9/11 demonstration near the Brussels WTC towers. Mr Thielemans banned the demo arguing that the Brussels WTC towers are situated near an immigrant neighbourhood and that it is inappropriate to hold such a demonstration during Ramadan. An appeal against the Mayor’s ban was rejected by the Council of State, Belgium’s highest administrative court. Last year, Mr Thielemans also banned a demonstration in remembrance of the 9/11 atrocities. When the demonstration went ahead anyway, the police savagely beat up the demonstrators and arrested most of them, including Mario Borghezio, an Italian MEP (member of the European Parliament) for the Lega Nord. Mr Borghezio’s arrest led to an official complaint from the Italian government and to Belgium formally apologizing and assuring that in future it will do “everything possible to guarantee the immunity of MEPs.”

POPSAs Soon As That Woman Opens Her Pitbull Lips There is nothing but false rhetoric and downright dumb schmitt coming out. What an obvious fraud being dumped on by the Repugnant Party. Like last ditch attempts to see how uninformed the American public really is and how little they think they must do to shove this schmitt down the throats of the voters.

POPSAbstinence or a condom in every pot Over the past two decades, as more and more school systems have implemented abstinence programs, the rate of teen pregnancy has declined. The number of high-school students who say they are virgins has increased, and the abortion rate has dropped. Is all of this good news due to abstinence-only programs? It’s a complex subject, and the evidence remains inconclusive. And clearly any school abstinence message is practically drowned out by the vulgar and licentious culture all around us. Still, we may be slowly climbing out of the hole we’ve dug for ourselves. The last thing we should be doing is declaring abstinence education a failure.

POPSBayh not the guy I, along with many Hoosier supporters of Senator Evan Bayh were disappointed to learn he was not chosen to run as Barack Obama's Vice Presidential candidate this weekend. I wish the best of luck to Sen. Joe Biden whom I personally consider to be a decent choice and a good candidate for the office. His experience in Washington and his foreign relations experience will be an asset to the Obama Administration.

POPSFBI Story on Ivins and Anthrax Falls Apart More news! 1. His attorney says he never knew he was a suspect or about to be indicted, while the article also claims others said he did (his therapist who was on criminal probation). His attorney would know. So what was his motive for "suicide by overdose of " (and is that credible? If you were going to commit suicide would you chose overdose on Tylenol?) 2. 15 other labs had access to the anthrax. Others say more than 100 scientists. 3. There is no direct evidence linking him to the crime. Yet he is the ONLY suspect and they were convinced that he would be found guilty?

POPSA House Revolt USA USA USA House Republicans are on the floor speaking to the taxpayers in the gallery who, not surprisingly, agree with Republican energy proposals. lso, Republicans can thank Shadegg for turning on the microphones the first time. Apparently, the fiesty Arizona conservative started typing random codes into the chamber's public address system and accidentally typed the correct code, allowing Republicans brief access to the microphone before it was turned off again.

POPSLieberman Would Address RNC My take? This is Lieberman's final term. He's not going to run in 2012. Mostly because he can't; he's completely destroyed his career as a public servant. In an '06 do-over, polls show Holy Joe would lose in a landslide to Lamont.

POPSWe have everything to fear from McCain Phil Gramm is an ornery old ex-Texas senator who seems to have swooped out of the most scathing H L Mencken sketch. He became McCain's "best friend in politics" – and started speaking to him every day – when they linked arms to stop Hillary Clinton's 1993 push to extend healthcare to poor Americans. He calls for "ruthlessly" slashing government spending – but only focuses on spending on the poor. When he was told paying for healthcare plunged many 80-year-olds into poverty, he said: "Most of us don't have the luxury of living to be 80 years old, so it's hard for me to feel sorry for them."

POPSMcCain Hits Obama On Iraq, Outlines Afghanistan Plan some of whose members have national restrictions on where their troops can go and what they can do. This is no way to run a war.” The Arizona senator touted the Afghan army as a “great success story” and said it needs to be expanded. He added that the global community should share the cost of doubling the size of the Afghan army. “We must convince Pakistanis that this is their war as much as it is ours. And we must empower the new civilian government of Pakistan to defeat radicalism with greater support for development, health and education,” McCain said. “Sen. Obama has spoken in public about taking unilateral military action in Pakistan. In trying to sound tough, he has made it harder for the people whose support we most need to provide it,” he added. “I will not bluster, and I will not make idle threats. But understand this: When I am commander in chief, there will be nowhere the terrorists can run, and nowhere they can hide.”

POPSObama's Flip-Flopping Caused By Evil Twin (alter-ego) In light of the recent changes in the current truth, it is important to understand which contradictory "flip-flopping" statement belongs to which twin. The officially registered "flip-flops" already include Public Financing, Guns, Iraq, FISA, Special Interests, NAFTA, the Cuba Embargo, Illegal Immigration, and Abortion. The list grows almost daily. Just a few examples: * Top Obama Flip-Flops * Collection of Obama Flip-Flops * Obama & McCain (cannot confirm a McCain evil twin) Flip-Flops The discovery of an evil twin comes as a huge relief to most Americans who otherwise might conclude that Obama is not a new transcendent-type messiah, but a usual Chicago-type lying politician. Luckily, nobody will have to contemplate the depth of Obama's perceived depravity anymore, because the existence of the evil twin changes everything.

POPSWhy Army Officers Won't Speak Out
Personally, I think it's because many officers have no idea just how badly their voices are needed in the national debate over what to do in Iraq and Afghanistan. In my experience, most people (not just soldiers) are completely unaware as to how absolutely clueless most politicians--and the general public--are when it comes to the wars. They don't realize that they can actually make a difference by speaking out. I think many officers are terrified of saying something wrong that could be construed as "buddy-fucking." They don't want to let their soldiers down , they don't want to embarrass their peers and higher-ups. It's easier just to stay quiet. I know this one's true, because I dealt with it myself. Other than that, I'm at a loss. We all know the officer corps is frustrated. We know the Congress is uninformed to a large degree. And we know the Congress makes decisions that affect the officer corps (and the entire military). So what's the deal? Where is everybody?

POPSJim Hansen Is At It Again......Ever More Desperate And Irrational It's the fact that money talks in Washington, and that democracy is not working the way it's intended to work." Hansen will use the symbolically charged 20th anniversary of his groundbreaking speech to the US Congress - in which he was among the first to sound the alarm over the reality of global warming - to argue that radical steps need to be taken immediately if the "perfect storm" of irreversible climate change is not to become inevitable. Speaking before Congress again, he will accuse the chief executive officers of companies such as ExxonMobil and Peabody Energy of being fully aware of the disinformation about climate change they are spreading.

POPSPut oil firm chiefs on trial
Speaking before Congress again, he will accuse the chief executive officers of companies such as ExxonMobil and Peabody Energy of being fully aware of the disinformation about climate change they are spreading. In an interview with the Guardian he said: "When you are in that kind of position, as the CEO of one the primary players who have been putting out misinformation even via organisations that affect what gets into school textbooks, then I think that's a crime." He is also considering personally targeting members of Congress who have a poor track record on climate change in the coming November elections. He will campaign to have several of them unseated. Hansen's speech to Congress on June 23 1988 is seen as a seminal moment in bringing the threat of global warming to the public's attention. At a time when most scientists were still hesitant to speak out, he said the evidence of the greenhouse gas effect was 99% certain, adding "it is time to stop waffling".
