Why is it Only About Race and Only About Whites?
cmstratton
by cmstratton  7-22-2008
To me, this article represents just how ingrained not just racism, but bigotry is in our society. The article focuses mostly on white people, but white people aren't the only ones who are racist. True in America's history, it was white people who enslaved blacks. But today, it's not only about black and white. Yes, some Caucasian-Americans are still racist. However, we can't neglect the fact that some African-Americans are racist, some Latino-Americans are racist, some Asian-Americans are racist. What's the commonality in all of these? "American." And it's not just about race. There are many people in our society (and not just in this country) that are discriminatory against people who are different from them, whether it be religion, sex, sexual orientation, etc. Is racism a problem - yes. But we need to focus on the bigger problem, which is that people in America have become far to afraid of and discriminatory against people who are different from them.

Liberalism: Can it survive?
esundby
by esundby  7-18-2008
Just another clip about bitter liberals. This was written by John Leo in the U.S. News & World Report, March 7th 2005. I clipped a great paragraph that I think sums up so many of the liberals I've encountered(perhaps not all, but many). The entire article is worth a read.

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Turns 90 Today
merrie
by merrie  7-18-2008    1
Nelson Mandela spent 27 years as a political prisoner in South Africa before becoming the country's first black president. Mandela was a leading member of the African National Congress (ANC), which opposed South Africa's white minority government and its policy of racial separation, known as apartheid. The government outlawed the ANC in 1960. Mandela was captured and jailed in 1962, and in 1964 he was convicted of treason and sentenced to life in prison. Instead of disappearing from view, Mandela became a prison-bound martyr and worldwide symbol of resistance to racism. South African President F.W. de Klerk finally lifted the ban on the ANC and released Mandela in 1990. Mandela used his stature to help dismantle apartheid and form a new multi-racial democracy, and he and de Klerk shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Mandela was elected the country's president in 1994. He served until 1999, when he was succeeded by his deputy Thabo Mbeki.

Bush's Racist Police Buddies Taser Black Actor in 'W'.
righthand
by righthand  7-17-2008    2
Stone's film on the life of the US president has aroused fascination and anticipation among many, and Bush supporters are bracing for an unflattering portrayal of the president. Previous Stone biopics on Richard Nixon and John F Kennedy were the targets of critical praise as well as controversy. Shreveport remains a bastion of American conservatism, raising questions about whether politics fuelled the aggression during the arrest of Brolin and Wright. Shreveport police chief Henry Whitehorn has confirmed that police are reviewing audio and video of the incident and will submit the case to the city prosecutor's office for possible prosecution of the actors.

Nas Keeps it Real
cmstratton
by cmstratton  7-16-2008
I like what Nas had to say in this article. I think people in today's society get so caught up on words and images, they lose site of the intent and the realities behind what those words represent. For example, "nigger." People spend so much time focusing on the word. If it's said by a politician, in a movie, in a song, etc. They lose site of the real issue - that there's still racism and inequality in this country. People should focus more on the realities and the intent, than trying to find every little phrase that might be said somewhere by someone in a public setting that could potentially be interpreted by some people as potentially being somewhat derogatory.

Kara Walker Art Exhibit "My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor"
nubinikki
by nubinikki  7-13-2008
I had the good fortune to see Kara Walker's exhibit at the Hammer Museum hear in Los Angeles. I'm not an artist, nor do I have an educational background in art, but I have to say I was beyond impressed with her work. Her pieces are undoubtedly controversial, especially in an era where I've actually heard people say out loud "There is no racism" and "forget slavery...it was so long ago!" Her artwork, a mix of murals, sketches, wall projections, puppetry, and video made me think deeply about the existence -both past and present- of oppression in the forms of racism and patriarchy. I proudly hale Kara Walker as one bad ass Invincible Sista.

What is the black hole?
cstxag98
by cstxag98  7-11-2008
The black hole is Price's mind. It's the only thing that is small and dense. The use of the term is entirely appropriate as used by Mayfield. Price needs to get over his hypersensitivity. Mr. Mayfield, you are not being "misunderstood". Mr. Price and the unnamed black official are race baiting.

The true heart of the conservative movement
jklugman
by jklugman  7-6-2008
Of course as tends to be the case with Helms' most repugnantly racist bile, he said that a good ways back in the past. But even at that time, most Americans managed not to be repugnant racists. But not Helms. And unlike a lot of people who did take the white supremacist line in the 1950s and 60s, Helms never apologized and, indeed, never backed down doing things like mounting a filibuster against making Martin Luther King Day into a federal holiday. Remarkably, mainstream American conservatives are eager to tell us that this man is their hero. Even more remarkably, you sometimes hear conservatives talk about reaching out to black voters.

Bill Clinton says Barack Obama must 'kiss my ass' for his support
Charlie Martel 732AD
by Charlie Martel 732AD  7-6-2008
"It has long been known that Mr Clinton is angry at the way his own reputation was tarnished during the primary battle when several of his comments were interpreted as racist." White liberals are used to spewing out often bogus "racism" smears at their conservative opponents. It's ironic to see them tarred with their own brush.
