POPSAnother Reason For TERM LIMITS!!! The announcement from Ms. Pelosi came as Republicans seized on Mr. Rangel’s troubles in an attempt to portray him and his fellow Democrats as entrenched and corrupt. Mr. Rangel, 78, who was elected to the House in 1970, has already asked the ethics committee to examine his renting four rent-stabilized apartments in Harlem and his use of Congressional stationery to solicit donations for an academic center at the City College of New York that would be named for him. He declined to be interviewed on Friday, but through Mr. Davis issued a statement saying he would also ask the ethics committee early next week to investigate his failure to report the rental income from the villa. “Congressman Rangel is just learning about all of this now,” Mr. Davis said. “He didn’t know how the loan was being paid or whether it was supposed to be reported as income. And until yesterday he thought he had been paying 10.5 percent interest.”

POPSBush Pushes for More Police Power (cont.)Four Democratic senators - with the lamentable absence of their leader, Harry Reid - also have reminded the attorney general of his oath to protect the Constitution. Russ Feingold, Richard Durbin, Edward Kennedy and Sheldon Whitehouse warn not only Mukasey but also the rest of us that the new rules "might permit an innocent American to be subjected to such intrusive surveillance based in part on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, or on protected First Amendment activities." As Lara Jakes Jordan of The Associated Press (Aug. 18) pointed out: "The new policy, law enforcement officials said, would let agents open preliminary terrorism investigations after mining public records and intelligence (including tips from informants) to build a profile of traits that, taken together, were deemed suspicious." There would be no evidence of criminal activity.

POPSPalin was on McCain's Earmark Hit List Now this is embarrassing. As mayor and governor, Palin requested and supported congressional earmarks that McCain called excessive. How, then is she like him? Opportunistic comes to mind. LOL!

POPSMcCain had criticized earmarks from Palin Three times in recent years, the Arizona senator's lists of 'objectionable' pork spending have included earmarks requested by his new running mate. Right wingers, let's hear the rationalizations.
