I also installed the Firefox extension that lets you send references directly to EndNote Web with a click. Firefox 3 required a forced install. I'll do some testing after I restart.

I had been under the impression that the Alien and Sedition Acts had gone out of existence in 1801-'02. Not so, apparently, in metropolitan St. Louis. Similarly, the Obama campaign called for a criminal investigation of the American Issues Project when it ran ads highlighting Mr. Obama's ties to Mr. Ayers. These attempts to shut down political speech have become routine for liberals. "Saturday Night Live" ran a spoof of the financial crisis that skewered Democrats like House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank and liberal contributors. The tape of the broadcast disappeared from NBC's Web site and was replaced with another that omitted the references to Mr. Frank. Evidently NBC and its parent, General Electric, don't want people to hear speech that attacks liberals. Today's liberals seem to be taking their marching orders from other quarters. Specifically, from the college and university campuses, armed with speech codes, have for years been disciplining and subjecting. .

David Paterson says conservative criticism of Obama’s community organizing days is code for “black.” Democratic Rep. Gregory Meeks complained to the New York Observer: “They are trying to throw out these codes.” In the same piece, Democratic Rep. Yvette Clark divined segregationist intent in Palin’s references to Joe Six-Pack and hockey moms. “It leaves a lot of people out.” And Democratic Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid echoed Time’s Tumulty on the McCain camp’s Obama/Raines broadsides: “The only connection that people could bring up about Raines and Barack Obama is that they both are African-American, other than that there is nothing.”

Yet Obama still can't open up a solid lead. After all, why would record numbers of viewers watch the vice-presidential debate if the election's already over? Meanwhile, the supposedly damaged Republican brand is proving suprisingly resilient. I see one of the two New Hampshire seats that flipped blue in '06 may return to the red fold next month. Where's the blowout? A lot of the dynamite is well past its sell-by date: Two references last night to Ronald Reagan negotiating with Tip O'Neill. No one remembers who Tip O'Neill is. McCain might as well have been evoking misty watercolor mem'ries of Talleyrand . . . Obama, by contrast, is all future - which is understandable, given his past.
