Muslim Cleric Says Christian Women Should Wear Veils
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  Today 7:11 AM    3
The Anglican Bishop of South Sydney, Robert Forsyth, challenged Sheik Hilali’s comments about the veil being “mandated” in the Bible, saying they were misleading. Misleading? That's the whole idea of organised religion, isn't it? . Anyway, this is the closest they are ever gonna get ME to a veil, that's for sure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTGJVeTy43k

Amazing Sand Sculptures From Around the World
worldamazingnews
by worldamazingnews  11-19-2008
Sand sculpture, like any other kind of sculptures can be of any shape, size or form. It can include the above things- a castle, or created in a human, animal, plant or a fantasy form. As this art was not evolved from many years, it didn`t have any historical references. Although not historically proved, the origin of this art is found in the Orissan myths. Sometimes even coloured sand is also used to create sculpture, as in Luilang of China. In making sand sculptures, the goal was to create structures that appear as an artistic example.

If you think this sounds familiar you're not alone. Today, the ridiculous argument attempting to paint Obama a "socialist" is just as absurd. Except this time it seems that the majority of the citizens have seen through this sham.

Buttock cleavage - Fashion Trends In Reverse!
arielcream
by arielcream  11-7-2008
n the early 2000s it became fashionable for young women and men to expose their buttocks in this way, often in tandem with low rise jeans. The Cincinnati Enquirer called it the "new cleavage", and expressed views that "It's virtually impossible to find jeans to cover your hipbone". In reaction to this trend, Saturday Night Live aired a parody advertisement for a product called Neutrogena Coin Slot Cream. Low-rise jeans sometimes also resulted in what is often called a whale tail—the appearance of the waistband of a thong or g-string above the waistline of one's pants, creating a shape resembling a whale's tail. British designer Alexander McQueen was particularly mentioned as the originator of buttock cleavage revealing jeans, known as the "bumster", in cultural critique Sheila Jeffreys' Beauty and Misogyny: Harmful Cultural Practices in the West. United States Patent 6473908 registers a design for buttock cleavage revealing trouser designs.

Election talking point recap
Lexica
by Lexica  11-1-2008
Clipped from my friend Tongodeon 's Livejournal. I don't always agree with him, but he's a smart, clear-eyed, level-headed guy. More from the post: Disgusted with McCain but can't vote for Obama? Perhaps I can interest you in Bob Barr. Also, vote no on Prop 8 because straight marriage is not threatened ( not by that, anyway ) even though same-sex marriage will be . Prop 8 is stupid evil because it won't even accomplish what they think it will accomplish .

I also installed the Firefox extension that lets you send references directly to EndNote Web with a click. Firefox 3 required a forced install. I'll do some testing after I restart.

"Argue With Them And Get In Their Face"
merrie
by merrie  10-14-2008    1
I had been under the impression that the Alien and Sedition Acts had gone out of existence in 1801-'02. Not so, apparently, in metropolitan St. Louis. Similarly, the Obama campaign called for a criminal investigation of the American Issues Project when it ran ads highlighting Mr. Obama's ties to Mr. Ayers. These attempts to shut down political speech have become routine for liberals. "Saturday Night Live" ran a spoof of the financial crisis that skewered Democrats like House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank and liberal contributors. The tape of the broadcast disappeared from NBC's Web site and was replaced with another that omitted the references to Mr. Frank. Evidently NBC and its parent, General Electric, don't want people to hear speech that attacks liberals. Today's liberals seem to be taking their marching orders from other quarters. Specifically, from the college and university campuses, armed with speech codes, have for years been disciplining and subjecting. .

Time’s Karen Tumulty, who spotted racist goblins in the recent McCain ad criticizing Obama for seeking advice from Fannie Mae corruptocrat Franklin Raines. A parade of congressional witch hunters for Obama also detects the specter of George Wallace behind every policy bush. Democratic New York Gov. David Paterson says conservative criticism of Obama’s community organizing days is code for “black.” Democratic Rep. Gregory Meeks complained to the New York Observer: “They are trying to throw out these codes.” In the same piece, Democratic Rep. Yvette Clark divined segregationist intent in Palin’s references to Joe Six-Pack and hockey moms. “It leaves a lot of people out.” And Democratic Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid echoed Time’s Tumulty on the McCain camp’s Obama/Raines broadsides: “The only connection that people could bring up about Raines and Barack Obama is that they both are African-American, other than that there is nothing.”

Keep Your Sunny Side Up by Mark Steyn
merrie
by merrie  10-8-2008    3
The Iraq surge (McCain's unique selling point) is a victim of its own success and has dwindled away to an irrelevant footnote, and the front pages are full of a supposed economic catastrophe which the crude rules of politics suggest any fool should be able to hang on the incumbent. Yet Obama still can't open up a solid lead. After all, why would record numbers of viewers watch the vice-presidential debate if the election's already over? Meanwhile, the supposedly damaged Republican brand is proving suprisingly resilient. I see one of the two New Hampshire seats that flipped blue in '06 may return to the red fold next month. Where's the blowout? A lot of the dynamite is well past its sell-by date: Two references last night to Ronald Reagan negotiating with Tip O'Neill. No one remembers who Tip O'Neill is. McCain might as well have been evoking misty watercolor mem'ries of Talleyrand . . . Obama, by contrast, is all future - which is understandable, given his past.

Word is NBC is scouring the net to get the old one off. TOO LATE! http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/c-span-bailout/727521/
