POPSContend for the Faith I back these comments 100%, we are drifting back into the darkness that prevailed prior to the Reformation.

POPSDisfunction One phrase got me thinking. "God fearing men...". Of course, being an atheist, this doesn't apply to my worldview. But to the majority I wonder if they ever spent much time thinking about it? I always thought this relationship of fear/love was rather strange. Normally, people who are presented a fearful situation react in a flight or fight manner. But neither option is open to theists if they believe their god is all-powerful and everywhere. It seems to infantilize the relationship and cast it in the light of being with an abusing parent. At the same time there is the cognitive dissonance of loving this fearful entity. Most peculiar.

POPSThe last abortion doctor NOTICE: Comment policy on this clip goes beyond my usual "keep it civil". Any comments insulting or vilifying doctors who perform abortions, women who get abortions, or people who support freedom of choice WILL BE DELETED. Any comments implying that it is reasonable to murder a doctor for performing a legal procedure WILL BE DELETED. You want to argue against abortion, take it somewhere else.

POPSIndividualistic Christianity leads to justifying feel-good behaviors. How then can we attack others who seek what feels good? Or can we suggest & live out that Jesus feels best?

POPSObama 'outraged' at abortion doctor murder Prayers for George Tiller and his family. "However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence." But this is ridiculous.

POPSUS abortion doctor is shot dead Correspondents say the president is attempting to defuse the abortion issue - a highly emotive subject in US public life - by arguing that while it should remain legal, the government should do all it can to limit the number of unwanted pregnancies.

POPSThe New Christianity Is Sarah Palin's Cup-o'-Tea Long but fascinating article, here's a bit more: A New Reformation? This development has not gone wholly unnoticed. Here's how an Atlantic Monthly editor portentously introduced historian Philip Jenkins' October 2002 article, "The Next Christianity": We stand at a historical turning point, the author argues -- one that is as epochal for the Christian world as the original Reformation. Around the globe Christianity is growing and mutating in ways that observers in the West tend not to see. Tumultuous conflicts within Christianity will leave a mark deeper than Islam's on the century ahead. Jenkins accurately depicted the radical nature of the ‘religious revolution' underway which, he wrote, "one might equate with the Counter-Reformation." He also pegged its goal: restoring a global Christian church "filled with spiritual power and able to exorcise the demonic forces that cause sickness and poverty."

POPSObama And Notre Dame "One of its projects is to publish essays by the Rev. C. John McCloskey, the Opus Dei priest who acts as a kind of chaplain to the GOP's neoconservatives and was influential in the conversion to traditional Catholicism of such prominent conservative commentators as Robert Novak and Larry Kudlow. In one of the essays disseminated by the society, McCloskey argues that "for a university to be truly Catholic," its faculty would have to be "exclusively" Catholic. Welcome back to the Counter-Reformation. The Newman Society is linked to two organizations -- CatholicVote.org and the Fidelis Center -- whose programs are clearly geared toward bringing Catholics into the Republican Party."

POPSEarly American Christians Opposed Christmas Christmas used to be opposed, not promoted. The mark of being a true Christian, for most in early America, was not observing Christmas, but strongly condemning and resisting its establishment by government. This article gives a brief and fair summary of Christian resistance. Every church, if they are courageous enough, should require this to be read if they want to present a "fair and balanced" view of history next time they complain about "taking Christ out of Christmas" when most of their Christian forefathers thought it was a corrupt "holy day" practice altogether, even when more religious. The article details that what was resisted by Christians has now again been slowly "established" by U.S. government: In 1836, Alabama became the first state to make Christmas a legal holiday. Other states followed... 2007, will be the centenary of Christmas being the first religious holiday whose celebration across the United States is sanctioned by law.

POPSNESARA : Also called the Reformation Act 3. Because NESARA abolishes unconstitutional states of emergency, NESARA’s public announcement declares “peace”. US military in Iraq and Afghanistan are immediately recalled to the USA. 4. As partial remedy for 90 years of government and banking fraud, NESARA requires zeroing out of credit card balances and bank debt relief be given to Americans.

POPSDisturbing Correlations This article brings up questions concerning Palin's religious associations and the philosophies they embrace. If a connection exists to one of the far right organizations mentioned it should be scrutinized and brought to light. The last thing we need is a Dominionist in the White House.
