Pope Led Cover-up of Child Abuse by Priests
blueridge
by blueridge  7-20-2008    10
This spotlight now after his recent "apology" for sexual abuse by priests that lacked any credibility. The Pope is a liar, like the devil, as history has consistently demonstrated. "By their fruits ye shall know them", Jesus warned of false prophets. Voila! Where is the repentance for his own role in these crimes of protecting the false church (the primary concern) through evasion and cover-up instead of prosecution and removal? Mass-mongering will never erase nor bring forgiveness for these heinous sins from either God or men! This Antichristian cult must be seen for what it is, a religious-political empire claiming "apostolic authority" of wealth and corruption, pomp, priest-craft, and unscriptural ceremonies that Jesus and the apostles never taught, but consistently warned about would come. This is NOT, nor ever was, a true Christian church or faith, but an impostor.

Civilization's last chance
papananook
by papananook  5-12-2008
There's a number -- a new number -- that makes this point most powerfully. It may now be the most important number on Earth: 350. As in parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. A few weeks ago, NASA's chief climatologist, James Hansen, submitted a paper to Science magazine with several coauthors. The abstract attached to it argued -- and I have never read stronger language in a scientific paper -- that "if humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on Earth is adapted, paleoclimate evidence and ongoing climate change suggest that CO2 will need to be reduced from its current 385 ppm to at most 350 ppm." Hansen cites six irreversible tipping points -- massive sea level rise and huge changes in rainfall patterns, among them -- that we'll pass if we don't get back down to 350 soon; and the first of them, judging by last summer's insane melt of Arctic ice, may already be behind us. So it's a tough diagnosis.

Ziauddin Sardar on the Quilliam Foundation for ex-jihadis
enbar
by enbar  4-29-2008
Sardar, whose writing I am only a little bit familiar with, is highly critical of any "lionizing" of former members of Islamic extremist groups, since it implicitly devalues the commitment to peace and pluralism exhibited by most "ordinary" Muslims.

"We just can't take all this bad news, so to some degree you start to understand the 'let's fiddle while Rome is burning' attitude, which will only increase. "People will be eating more red meat, drinking, smoking. But the big repentance will come," she cautions. Just not now. "Look for that in 2009."

FBI: Blackwater Guilty of Murdering 14 Iraqis--
blueridge
by blueridge  11-14-2007
Would like to hear talk radio spin this, and paint the FBI as "liberal". You will not hear any words of remorse or repentance from neo-Christian "conservatives" (who dismiss the Bible's open condemnation about those who "shed innocent blood"). Yet note that the rogue Blackwater mercenaries (terrorists) may be difficult to prosecute, perhaps due to "jurisdiction". But they could be tried by Iraqi government (you know, this "democracy" puppet gov't), and may in fact have an extradition agreement with the U.S. to do so. One more important thing--Blackwater LIED (just like the neocon Bush administration does) and here is the FBI's findings to prove it: Investigators found no evidence to support assertions by Blackwater employees that they were fired upon by Iraqi civilians. That finding sharply contradicts initial assertions by Blackwater officials, who said that company employees fired in self-defense and that three company vehicles were damaged by gunfire.

Modern Orthodox Zionist Jew Fears God's Retribution
righthand
by righthand  8-4-2007    1
So now I am fearful of the punishment, of the divine retribution, of the suffering to come for the injustice that we have grown innured to. Our hearts have been hardened as much as the hearts of Pharoah or Sichon. And retribution will come -- or, perhaps more accurately, in what comes I will see retribution. All I can hope and pray for it that when it comes, it will be made up of afflictions of love that not only chastise us, but purify us. It is not too late...we can avert the decree through teshuvah, tefillah, and tzeddakh -- repentance from our evil ways through ending the Occupation, prayer to God and to all people of good will to help us build a just society within Israel, and charity/righteousness that restores to the Palestinian people what we have taken from them. And we should never despair. That is the message of Jeremiah (the other one) and of Tisha B'Av.
