POPSRNC Puts Palin on Fashion Welfare; Palin Goes Wild Republicans give Clothing-Stamps to Palin and family. Palin uses it at Neiman Mark-Ups. What hypocrisy. Talk about Socialism! She cannot afford her own clothes? They are millionaires! Meet the real Jane six-pack. Still think she is "conservative" fiscally? Take a look at the itemized bills. Spends like a "liberal" doesn't she? I wonder how people who donated to the RNC feel about this spending of their contributions? Just another example of Palin's principles, she will accept charity and handouts from others. Really, how did she talk the RNC into this? Or did they want her to get a "makeover" in fashion? I wonder how much they paid for her hair do-over. Question: If Palin was a man running for VP, would he get this treatment? Not a chance. So this policy is sexist too.

POPSGOP "Hitched Their Wagon To Rising Star" Gov. Sarah Palin Rarely, if ever, has a vice-presidential pick had such impact. And no media pundit should be able to get away with claiming it has more to do with style than substance. A Rasmussen poll shows a recent increase in those identifying themselves as Republican. 32% of those calling themselves Republicans rose to 33.2% in August, while Democratic identification slipped to 35% from 37%. With a sizable majority of Americans demanding more domestic oil production, McCain chose a running mate from the state with the most to drill. Palin could give Obama, Biden and McCain a seminar on accessing oil and gas without devastating the wild. McCain's running mate has also electrified the party's base by living up to the family values she espouses, suspending the state fuel tax and vetoing half a billion dollars in spending — the kinds of things Republicans used to do before they lost their way.

POPSVFP Calls for U.S. Withdrawal From Afghanistan and the Prosecution of Dick Cheney and George Bush fo
This same resolution calls for the U.S. government to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan, in non-coercive forms, to help them rebuild their own nation and their lives in cooperation with other nations in the region; and to allow the people of Afghanistan to freely determine their own government without interference by the U.S. "These three statements from our membership represent many of the core values of our organization. We believe that service members have the right to re-evaluate their decision to kill and change their mind. We know that after all the killing is done the individual soldiers must live with themselves and make sense of what they have done. We believe that our political leaders must be held accountable for their actions. This is a critical to a healthy and functional democracy. We realize that to survive the challenges we face today, like global warming, we must find ways to work together and war is not viable." To read full text of the resolu

POPSPalin Has Chosen to Exploit Her Own Daughter's Pregnancy I am disgusted by the way Governor Palin has thrown her 17-year-old pregnant daughter under the bus for political gain. She is exploiting her daughter's misfortune in order to use her to make her anti-abortion point to the extreme right-wing of the Republican party. This woman should be removed from the ticket for abusing her child in this manner.
4
POPSOff Limits? I Think Not Ordinarily a situiation such as the pregnancy of Sarah Palin's daughter would be off-limits but the Republican party has been the first to put it front and center as a political tool. The Holier than Anyone Right has used this to showcase how "special" their darling VP hopeful really is and the point has driven home at the RNC yesterday. That and the supposed non-political issue of McCain's POW status. Have the voters become so inured to the Republican machine that they are incapable of seeing through their deceptions and lies?

POPSMark Morford on the GOP, Palin More of this great column: To be sure, it's moments like these that make it difficult not to take some delight, not to sit back and feel the ironic righteousness melt over us like hot Cheez-Whiz over an Alaskan mooseburger. After all, Sarah Palin is anti-choice, pro-abstinence, anti sex-ed, religiously fundamentalist, a creationist, about as friendly to feminism and women's reproductive rights as John McCain is to his beloved "gooks." But here's the saddest part of all: Governor Palin knew. She absolutely had to realize that her daughter's unfortunate condition would come to light when McCain offered her this bizarre gig. To which we can only say: Way to shove your own daughter under the wheels of the GOP Machine, Governor Palin. Ultimate sacrifice indeed.

POPS PATTERICO ENDORSES MITT If the swing towards Romney in California continues , he will emerge from Tuesday's contest in a solid second place with a new narrative and a renewed debate about the race --can Romney surpass McCain in Ohio and Texas in March? The rapidly fading Huck would simply disappear, as he is doing in many places where the obvious has already registered: A vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain. A vote for McCain is a vote AGAINST the traditional family and traditional family values.

POPSFormer House Speaker Hastert:::McCain 'Allied With Democrats' The former House speaker has not had a lot of good to say about McCain in recent years. He contended that on agenda items under the Republican-controlled Congress, “it just seems like everything we did, John was someplace else.” “It was McCain-Kennedy, it was McCain-Lieberman, it was McCain-Feingold on campaign finance reform,” Hastert said, noting Democratic co-sponsors. “He was against us on tax cuts and his form of immigration reform was to open the gates and let everybody in.” “He is a moderate,” the former speaker said. “In almost everything he’s done, he’s done (things) against what mainstream Republicans thought and he’s allied with Democrats. He was always the undependable vote in the Senate.” McCain's campaign thinks they can smooth things over. "We look forward to the Speaker's support in the general election," said Steve Schmidt, a senior adviser to McCain.

POPSRepublican Adulterers Hall of Fame - 2007 Edition More: But Scaife got edged after we inadvertently ran across at least one adulterous period in the life of Ronald Reagan — and, no, Nancy was not involved. In 1938, when Reagan started dating his future wife, actress Jane Wyman, she was married to someone else. About 10 years later, when his marriage to Wyman was coming undone, Reagan lived on and off in the Garden of Allah Hotel on the Sunset Strip, where, he would later brag, he often woke up next to women whose names he couldn’t remember. Hey, here's an idea, let's put Ron Raygun's likeness on Mt. Rushmore

POPSAlaska Republicans, "I'll sell my soul to the Devil". - Done Deal! More: Officially, the scandal has remained confined to Juneau, where Alaska lawmakers had grown so accustomed to operating under the presumption of impropriety that several of them embroidered ball caps with the letters CBC, for "Corrupt Bastards Club." (An Anchorage coffeehouse now offers Corrupt Bastards Brew.) the investigation is brushing against Alaska's lone congressman, Don Young (R), and its longtime and venerated senator Ted Stevens (R) Ben Stevens, the senator's son and a former Alaska Senate president, has been at the center of the scandal from the start. When Allen pleaded guilty to bribery and conspiracy charges, he stated that almost a quarter of a million dollars in consulting fees paid to the younger Stevens was in fact bribery "About the only ones that I can trust is you and ol' Ben Stevens," the oil executive told Kott on one tape.

POPSWater torture judge wins job. This is a good marker for the end of the illusion of so-called: 'American values." Now all the brash and bloated pretensions can be tossed back into America's face. Without doubt it would be justified to see it's own troops tortured. Also It would be fair play to kidnap suspects and hold them in secret prisions for decades, without trial, charges, lawyers or family notification. Of course, too, other nations could also start wars based on lies and deliberate fabrications. Increase spying on citizens. Build up lists of 'terrorist suspects,' spend more money on prisons rather than schools, etc. Welcome to the New World Fascist Regime: Welcome to America. We just gave the job of Chief of Law and Order (our Attorney General) to a Republican hack who's willing to play ball with the warmongers. And the rival political party is playing along.

POPSGOP Pres. Candidate Thompson - Advisor & Friend is Convicted Drug Dealer You just can't trust those Tennessee Republicans. Reminds me of a song. Sing along if you know the words..... Give me that old family values Tis the old family values, Tis the old family values, And it's good enough for me. It was good for our buddies It was good for advisors It was good for drug dealers And it's good enough for Fred Give me that old GOP Party Tis the old Republican Party Tis the old Republican Party And it's good enough for Fred

POPSRudy Giuliani: The Values Slayer More: When Rudy’s candidacy started to show legs, pundits and family values activists alike assumed that ignorant voters knew only his 9/11 video reel and not his personal history or his stands on issues. “Americans do not yet realize how far outside of the mainstream of conservative thought that Mayor Giuliani’s social views really are,” declared Tony Perkins, the Family Research Council leader, in February. But despite Rudy’s fleeting stabs at fudging his views, they are well known now, and still he leads in national polls of Republican voters and is neck and neck with Fred Thompson in the Bible Belt sanctuary of South Carolina There are various explanations for this. The most obvious explanation is the one that Washington resists because it contradicts the city’s long-running story line. Namely, that the political clout ritualistically ascribed to Mr. Perkins, James Dobson of Focus on the Family, Gary Bauer of American Values and their ilk is a sham

POPSIn God we trust for right US candidate It would seem that this behaviour is acceptable. That, to me, means that church and state are not separate, at least as far as the Republicans are concerned. (Can't make other comments as they may be misinterpreted as insulting)

POPSGOP Hitman: Ken Starr's Moral Compass More: Furthermore, the parent of one of Epstein’s youngest victims is outraged that he could walk without registering as a sex offender and tells Radar, “What this man did to my daughter was horrible. He thinks that with all his money, his big deal lawyers, and his hired thugs, he can get away with anything. I pray that other young girls will never have to suffer like my daughter did. The whole world should know that he is a sex offender.” So, now that Ken Starr’s not lapping it up at the public trough, turning a simple investigation into a monster that only served political interests, it’s good to see him getting dirty and doing legitimate, if very disgusting, legal work. After all, even slimeballs need representation. Personally, if I’m a slimeball, though, there’s not a chance of me calling Starr.

POPSConservative Straw Poll--Giuliani Out; Romney, Huckabee, Paul Top
It also states in the article that "Romney's campaign actively petitioned supporters to vote online whether or not they had attended the conference." So that would be Romney "slamming the polls", not Ron Paul, wouldn't it? Note Ron Paul dashed both Giuliani and Fred Thompson. Note as well that "permanant tax reductions" and taxes are two of the leading values issues, as well as abortion opposition and defending marriage (something Presidents actually have little influence legally upon, more so the states). This shows that Ron Paul is a serious contender. It also shows with Huckabee that republican voters are dissatisfied with Giuliani. Too bad people are blind to Huckabees lack of constitutional integrity, or lack of a lower tax plan (Paul would eliminate the Income Tax entirely!), and fail to see that unjust war (the neocon's Iraq, Iran, Syria plan) is also murder, moreso than abortion! This shows the ignorance and biblical illiteracy of "values voters'" judgment.

POPSHas Another GOP Closet Been Forced Open? Another week, another GOP political figure accused of wrong-doing with either a male minor, or some other homosexual activity of a highly questionable nature. Is it possible that because of the repression of all things sexual in the Republican party, especially where it concerns homosexuality, that these guys are simply forced into these anti-social behaviours? I do not pretend to have the answers, but there certainly does seem to be an epidemic of these kinds of situations in a party that is always screaming about "family values."

POPSThe Front Man - For those who backed him. Where this column leads is back to my old Republican friends.. who have so dutifully voted for Craig for over a quarter of a century. I would ask them not to obsess over Craig's homosexuality or even Craig's hypocrisy. Instead, I would ask them to consider the rest of Idaho's Republican leadership, the people who have thumped the drum of "family values" so incessantly. I would ask them to wonder if there is a chance in hell those leaders.. didn't know about this. Think it over. If lowly Democrats—who don't travel in Craig circles—have known about it for decades, how is it possible that the highest Republicans—who do travel in Craig circles—couldn't have? And if they did (as I know in my bones to be true), doesn't that make them about the most cynical, manipulating, fake-ass, scheming pack of phony bastards you ever heard of? Doesn't that make the "family values" slate nothing more than a scam to run until they get caught?

POPSTwo Republicans - Two Misdemeanors - Two Different Outcomes This editorial makes an interesting point. I think another interesting comparison is between Craig, who is most likely gay and was most likely trying to find a willing sex partner, and David Vitter, another family values conservative who apparently hired prostitutes in Louisiana and DC and who was not pressured to resign.
0
POPSCraig: "I am not gay..." Maybe. But you are definitely a neocon. It is not your gayness or lack thereof, it is your running on "family values," and as a Senator, you can pass laws on whatever you believe (or not) about these "values," thus making "better Americans" of us all; laws that the federal government is obviously above. You and your ilk think you know what is best for us, and so try to control our behavior. LEAVE US ALONE.

POPSGuess Hate is a Family Value I'm so sick of hearing about "family values", it's become another way of trumpeting bigotry. The bigots are coming out of the woodwork since the Larry Craig story. The right is quick to condemn mister Craig for not living up to the "family values" he claimed to support and defend. The left is just as quick to condemn him for typical republican hypocrisy. Mr. Craig is not evil incarnate, he's misguided, confused, perhaps opportunistic and self hating, but he is not the problem. Anti gay bigotry is the problem. If an institution is so weak that it requires exclusion to stand then it is already doomed. With every misguided act of protection of marriage, it is cheapened and made weaker. Bigotry in any form only hurts us all. We need to stop it already.

POPSThe Sickness of the closet I had to cringe while watching and listening to Senator Craig's tortured statement yesterday. I actually did not know whether to spit or cry. Here is a man who is so much self-loathing that he felt compelled to state four different times during the press conference that he is not gay. Just imagine the torture this man must feel inside is he considers admitting to being gay is worse than lying to his family, his constituency, himself, and would rather live in the prison of the closet than to being honest about who and what he is. I would have much more sympathy for this man had he not made a career of making the lives of gays miserable.

POPSRovian Politics....the politics of division It was always so damn obvious to me that "I'm a uniter, not a divider", was a totally untrue Bush statement. I've never seen this country so divided! All this crew cared about was winning elections....their strategy was to appeal to the base. They used every Rovian "dirty trick" possible to eek out that last vote.....to push them over the top.....no matter how divided the country became. Now, they get to slink off back under their rock.
