The Balfour Declaration and the Mandate Under the League of Nations
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 2:00 AM    1
........ The Jewish Connection To The Land ...... We consider Palestine as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at any time. We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic, and geographical bonds." The purpose of post-World War I's League of Nations was to prepare those liberated from the Turks for independence. Once the indigenous populations demonstrated their ability to assume control, the mandates given to the war's victorious superpowers were supposed to be self-terminating. For the international community, justice for the Arabs meant guaranteeing their economic, civil, and religious rights. Awarding the Arabs any form of self-government within Palestine was precluded by British commitments to the Jews under the Balfour Declaration, which had been incorporated in the mandate of the League of Nations.

Jesus was a Community Organizer, Pilate was a Governor
dulios
by dulios  9-4-2008    10
Thank you to my friend Daniel, who has done community organizing from Harlem to LA to Boston. Thank you to Biko Baker of League of Young Voters, who I once interviewed and was immediately impressed by. Thank you to Saul Alinsky, largely considered the father of community organizing (pictured above). Thank you to all of you I don't know, who every day, make the choice to listen to ordinary people's stories and help them link these stories into a template for honest-to-goodness social change. And, yes, thank you to Barack Obama, for making the choice to be a community organizer so many years ago and for continuing to be proud and loud about the importance of the role of the community organizer for our nation's well-being.

Troopergate: Palin Acting As Though She Has Something to Hide
DanaGarrett
by DanaGarrett  9-4-2008    3
One of Gov. Sarah Palin's top aides refused to be interviewed under oath as part of the Alaskan legislature's investigation into "troopergate." he aide refused because the Palin administration believes that the legislature doesn't have the jurisdiction to look into the matter; rather the state personnel office does, which happily happens to be under Palin's jurisdiction. Nice coincidence, eh? Of course, this NEW position contradicts Palin's initial vow to cooperate fully with the legislature. Obstacles and delaying a swift resolution of the investigation will undoubtedly serve the interests of the McCain campaign.

Pressure is on For Satellite Image Company
Andrew Gillies
by Andrew Gillies  9-2-2008
We profiled GeoEye, and presented a bullish case for its shares, just over a year ago. http://www.forbes.com/businessinthebeltway/2007/07/25/washington-congress-geoeye-biz-wash-cz_0725beltway.html The stock has gained 12% since our story, versus a 16% drop for the S&P 500. It will be interesting to see what happens after the launch. Odds are it will succeed, but if not, shareholders could get wiped out.

Comcast to cap online use
dmtherob
by dmtherob  8-31-2008
The cap will be set at 250gb. If you go over that, you get a courtesy call from Comcast as a first warning. The second time that you go over, your account will be immediately suspended for an entire calendar year. People that watch movies or video's online are going to be hit hard because you can go over your daily limit in minutes. And don't forget that companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft and others are offering online (cloud) storage. Some applications such as Google's http://docs.google.com/ are online and would be completely inaccessible to small business's or home offices. Plus there are X-box, Playstation, Nintendo and many other consumer boxes that require the internet to access online games, calenders, address books, and even clocks.

At the DNC Convention, Sixties Radicals Are Going to "Save the World", Again!
merrie
by merrie  8-28-2008    6
for America will be best achieved through policies of generosity and caring toward the rest of the world.” All America has to do is dedicate “1%-2% of the GDP each year for the next 20 years toward once and for all eliminating domestic and global poverty, homelessness, hunger, inadequate education, inadequate health care, and repairing the environment of the planet.” Once and for all? And to think no one had figured out sooner that we could merely legislate the human condition out of existence. Of course, collecting the money is only half the battle. Once we confiscate the necessary funds, according to the NSP’s helpful 32-page booklet on the Global Marshall Plan, all we have to do is “create an international, unbiased, nongovernmental agency for receiving the funds . . . and distributing them in a way that is environmentally sensitive, respectful of native cultures, safeguarded against corruption

In other words, Microsoft had created a seamless, successful photosynth using hundreds of existing photos, taken by different people at different times using all kinds of cameras.

Russia Threatens"Non-Diplomatic"Action: Democrats Go Wobbly

They would replace Reagan's proven strategy of "Peace through strength" with "peace pretty please" at the exact same time the world is being threatened once again by Russia. Related News: Russians Squash UN Resolution on Georgia. Occupation Continues No surprise here, but the U.N. Security Council Resolution demanding Russia's withdrawal from Georgia and respect for the small nation's territorial integrity was blocked by Russia. Meanwhile, the occupation of Georgia continues as Russian troops appear to be digging in, not preparing to withdraw despite the agreements Russia has signed.
