POPSIranian rebel 'admits US links' US officials earlier dismissed claims by Heydar Moslehi, the Iranian foreign minister, that Rigi had visited a US military base just 24 hours before his arrest on Tuesday. Of course they would.

POPSIran moving to military dictatorship, says Clinton The Revolutionary Guard has long been a force separate from the ordinary armed forces. It now has a hand in every critical area, including missile development, oil resources, dam building, road construction, telecommunications and nuclear technology. It also has absorbed the paramilitary Basij as a part of its command structure, giving the militia greater funding and a stronger presence in Iran’s internal politics. Asked if the US is planning a military attack on Iran, Clinton said "no." The US is focused on gaining international support for sanctions "that will be particularly aimed at those enterprises controlled by the Revolutionary Guard, which we believe is in effect supplanting the government of Iran," she said.

POPSIran's 'Celebrations' A Bust ... Regime On The Brink 2.13.10
The regime's profile was even lower in rural Iran, where pro-regime demonstrations were confined to 3,000 villages out of a total of 50,000. In several major cities, among them Isfahan, the country's second largest in population, and Ahvaz, official ceremonies had to be curtailed as pro-democracy marchers seized control of major thoroughfares. For three decades, the Feb. 11 demonstrations provided an occasion for the Khomeinist establishment to flex its political muscle in streets throughout the country. This year, the occasion only underlined the regime's increasing isolation. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had hoped that his announcement that Iran was now able to enrich uranium up to 80 percent would divert attention from the regime's domestic difficulties. But the old trick of provoking an external conflict to cover internal problems didn't work. So dismal was Thursday's show that some regime supporters are already calling for an end to the exercise .....

POPSHuge Rally and Protests Mark Iran Revolution
Security forces also briefly detained the granddaughter of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the architect of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, and her husband, who are both senior pro-reform politicians, according to the couple's son, Ali. The granddaughter, Zahra Eshraghi, and her husband Mohammad Reza Khatami, who is the brother of a former pro-reform president, were held for less than an hour before being released, his son told the AP. Tehran residents also reported Internet speeds dropping dramatically and e-mail services such as Gmail being blocked in a common government tactic to foil opposition attempts to organize. Heavy numbers of riot police, members of the Revolutionary Guard and Basij militiamen deployed at key squares and major avenues in the capital to prevent the opposition protests from marring the annual mass rallies for the revolution's anniversary... more.... POPSUS raises stakes on Iran by sending in ships and missiles "The deployment comes after Obama's attempts to emphasise diplomacy over confrontation in dealing with Iran – a contrast to the Bush administration's approach – have failed to persuade Tehran to open its nuclear installations to international controls. The White House is now trying to engineer agreement for sanctions focused on Iran's Revolutionary Guard, believed to be in charge of the atomic programme." "Washington has not formally announced the deployment of the Patriots and other anti-missile systems, but by leaking it to American newspapers the administration is evidently seeking to alert Tehran to a hardening of its position."

POPS Love The Warriors
On New Year’s Eve, we learned that Qais Khazali has been released, apparently as part of a prisoner exchange for British hostage Peter Moore. Laith Khazali was already released six months ago. Peter Moore was kidnapped in May 2007, explicitly to be used as a bargaining chip for the freedom of the Khazali brothers. The circumstances around Qais Khazali’s release are murky, with the usual denials and clarifications swirling around like a cloud of confetti over Times Square on New Years’ Eve. Multi National Force spokesmen claim this was not a hostage trade, but rather an attempt to comply with “the implementation of the U.S. " Iraq Security Agreement” and support a “reconciliation process.” Some suggest this is all part of an elaborate intelligence operation. Republican Senators Jeff Sessions and Jon Kyl have already sent a letter to the Obama Administration, citing an executive order signed by President Reagan in 1986 that prohibits concessions to terrorist hostage .....

POPSMore Anti-American Sentiment Obama was a fool to think he could actually sit down and talk peace with a government that is bent on always being at odds with the US. Any chance he gets, Ahmadinejad will bad mouth the US. He doesn't have any respect for the US or our world leader pretend, Obama. He knows Obama is weak. Our enemies have always known that if there is Liberal leadership in our Country, we are weak and an easy target. The following link shows that Ahmadinejad will use any anti-government protest in his Country to blame the US for the civil unrest there:

POPSStates Reassert Sovereignty With Legislation September 21, 2009
Although the resolutions are not legally binding, Tenth Amendment Center founder Michael Boldin said they “serve notice” that states will no longer automatically enforce federal mandates in areas they believe the central government has no constitutional authority. Montana’s first-in-the-nation law reasserting state authority with the regulation of firearms manufactured and sold within state boundaries was soon followed by a similar law in Tennessee. Officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have already sent letters to gun dealers and federal permit holders in both states telling them to ignore the state law. A court battle is next. Nearly 20 other states have similar legislation in the works, including directives to their governors to order National Guard troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Next year, Arizona will have a state constitutional amendment on the ballot that allows residents to opt out of any national health care program.

POPSU.S. Had Covert Ties to Paki-based Terrorist in Iran Bombing The terrorist behind the Iran bombing recently was a former covert operative per Robert Baer, former CIA agent of Syriana fame. This is not unlike the former ties with Al Qaeda and bin Laden as covert operatives and "CIA brainchilds". Of course, this was done for provocatory purposes to spark Iran-British-U.S. conflict....and it appears to be working for this design. See Telegraph UK article: Iran vows revenge after claiming bomb attack was carried out by Britain A bomb attack on Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard that killed over 40 people including top generals was carried out by terrorists trained by America and Britain in nearby Pakistan , a senior commander said on Monday. See, "state-sponsored terrorism" can be alleged both ways.

POPSEx-Revolutionary Guard Denounces Crackdown But Rezaei brings added weight as a former commander of the powerful Revolutionary Guard - which has led the backlash against groups claiming widespread fraud paved the way for Ahmadinejad's re-election. In a letter to the head of Iran's judiciary, which is directly controlled by the ruling clerics, Rezaei said trials must be held for anyone linked to deadly attacks on the streets or torture of detainees. Among the dead is the son of one of Rezaei's top aides.

POPSTEHRAN BUREAU: Updates from 8 Mordad (30 July) From Tehran Bureau staff: I went to the Beheshteh Zahra cemetery today. The police did not permit Mousavi or Karoubi near the graves. When the car transporting Mousavi and his wife approached, police did not even allow them out of the car. But more than 3000 people were out on the streets near Mosalla. Basij was there too. People flashed V signs with their fingers. Traffic was crazy; people kept honking their horns. People put trash bins, and one motorcycle, on fire. Police and Basij started to use tear gas. They even used it at the cemetery. The gathering at the Beheshte Zahra cemetery was supposed to be at 4 pm, but before that could happen, baton-wielding Basij and the special guard were there to break it up. Police told mourners that if they didn’t leave, they would attack. They arrested many people at the cemetery and in the streets around Mosalla. Some people started attacking police with stones; police then started to attack them.

POPSAli Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Friday Prayer A caller to EPersianRadio.com says he is a former Revolutionary Guard member. Via a reader, "He said that mentally it's so hard, that the basiji forces may not be able to hold up. He said he served 10 years ago and he knows what goes in their mind and how much effect it has on them. Otherwise, why are they asking for volunteers now? He said when they were on alert he couldn't get any sleep and he knows how scared the forces are themselves." 9:01 AM ET -- Demonstrators reportedly swarming state media HQ. Iranians calling into EPersianRadio.com say that large crowds have gathered outside the headquarters of the state media outlet IRIB. One caller said the building was surrounded by thousands of people, and that demonstrators were trying to break in. 9:25 AM ET -- "Something profound has changed." "Iranians are losing their fear and mock the official line." http://www.flickr.com/photos/fhashemi (486 items)

POPSThe Green Brief #23 18tir Jul 9, 2009
People were joined by their wives, fathers, mothers and children. Contrary to most reports, many elderly people were also reported to have joined the protests. At times, pedestrians would join protesters in order to increase their numbers " making it more difficult for security forces to attack. 4. Protesters chanted "Mir Hossein, Ya Hossein!" and "Death to the Dictator." Strangely enough, some slogans were directed at Mojtaba Khamenei " the son of Ayatollah Khamenei. Mojtaba Khamenei has allegedly taken control of the Basiji and is heavily involved in the government's attempt at brutally suppressing the protests. 5. Estimating how many people actually gathered in Tehran is almost impossible. What can be safely asserted, from eyewitness accounts and examination of videos, is that the numbers were more than 35,000 - that's including all the protesters and some pedestrians who joined them. Again, this number is only an estimate. http://greenbrief.newsvine.com/

POPSU.S. frees 5 Iranian diplomats held since 2007 Two and a half years in prison without any charges being filed, without any evidence being presented, without any rights to a lawyer, no chance to defend yourself from accusations, all contact with family, friends, your own government or agencies like the Red Cross cut off No clearing of their name. This is classic injustice, another example of USA hypocrisy and cruelty, phony face and double-standards. Why all the concern on the media about Iranian election results and almost zero coverage about USA violations of its own principles? The answer, of course, is strong forces of neocon conservatives, warmongering Republicans and Zionist extremist are once against pushing for war against Iran.
