McCain Volunteers Instructed to Accuse Obama of Terrorism
Wisco
by Wisco  10-12-2008    1
The Time article tells us: With so much at stake, and time running short, did not feel he had the luxury of subtlety. He climbed atop a folding chair to give 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door their talking points -- for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden: "Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon," he said. "That is scary." It is also not exactly true -- though that distorted reference to Obama's controversial association with William Ayers, a former 60s radical, was enough to get the volunteers stoked. "And he won't salute the flag," one woman added, repeating another myth about Obama. She was quickly topped by a man who called out, "We don't even know where Senator Obama was really born." Actually, we do; it's Hawaii.

Palin’s Taking Us Back to "McCarthyism".
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  10-12-2008    1
The acrimonious language in Palin’s speeches, take us back to "McCarthyism". We've all known that Rightdiculous columnists and their nastier Right-Wing talk radio hacks have been doing this rhetoric for years. And that their ditto heads have been soaking it up, in the comfort of their living rooms, where they shout obscenities and hateful oratory, alone or among their kind. Now McCain’s, VP choice allows them a place IN PUBLIC to caterwaul their Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter induced RAGE. It must be a catharses for the pathetic souls who have been listening and reading the unadulterated animosity coming over air waves or in print, directed at some unknown enemy. They now can UNLEASH the bottled up hatred, in the open and have a recognizable foe, thanks to the self-proclaimed pit-bull. The wingnut goons behind desks or microphones must be MIGHTY PROUD! “HURRAY FOR SARAH PALIN!” they shout. She’s harvesting the grotesque seeds of hatred, we’ve fervently sewn! The Terrorist Barack Hussein Obama
debbyski
by debbyski  10-12-2008    2
"From the start, there have always been two separate but equal questions about race in this election. Is there still enough racism in America to prevent a black man from being elected president no matter what? And, will Republicans play the race card? The jury is out on the first question until Nov. 4. But we now have the unambiguous answer to the second: Yes."

Palin Must Condemn Hateful Obama Attacks.
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  10-10-2008
VP Democratic candidate, Senator Joe Biden is confronting what he calls the "ugly," and "dangerous," recent Republican campaign rallies where members of the crowd are shouting out about Obama: "Treason!" and "Kill him!" Those are very appropriate words. Over the last week, here at Clipmarks, other forums, on radio, TV, in the newspapers and magazines there is a shocking virulent outburst of hate against Obama, trying to associate him with "domestic terrorism," and being a supporter of 'Islamofacsist," (the neocon propagada term the Republicans wave like a red flag). In this age of 24-hour media coverage there is the real possibility of such vocal and visible fascist-like hatred and attempts to distort elections and destroy opponents can succeed. It was done in the 2000 elections in the USA, which Al Gore won and Bush stole in Florida, with the help of a shouting mob. We have to not only stand strong against this, but fight back, word for word -- & Vote Obama, Please

Moscow calls for anti-U.S. alliance
spirithiker
by spirithiker  10-10-2008
While Russia has insisted it was not intending to supplant NATO, Mr Medvedev made it clear that the US-dominated alliance was partly responsible for the war in the Caucasus by its failure to rein in Georgian "aggression". This is the result of the U.S. throwing its weight around the world for far too long. It is human nature that if one person is constantly directing policy onto everyone else then that person is going to be knocked down for being perceived as a bully. The time has come for the U.S. to relax its role as self appointed world police and let other nations handle their own affairs or we will be “uninvited to the party”. Hopefully, future U.S. presidents will bury this old school ‘might is right’ mentality that Bush/Cheney revitalized when they took office.

Democrats Get Ripped for Bailout Bill from Their Own
blueridge
by blueridge  10-6-2008    4
The author is just getting warmed up in this clip. The entire article is worth a look at. (Actually, comparing Obama to Brutus is not a good analogy, for Brutus slew a tyrant Caesar, where Obama aided and abetted the financial czars and the Fed instead of defending the republic). The politics of Obama and the fearful Dems (Pelosi) cannot be overlooked in passing the bailout (even with republicans resisting): He lobbied hard for the bill. He did so, according to some who met with him on Capitol Hill, because he feared that if he opposed the bailout and it triggered a market collapse it could cost him the election. Better to placate the thieves on Wall Street than stand up for the masses of enraged and swindled citizens.

Thomas Sowell Opines --- Do Facts Matter?
merrie
by merrie  10-4-2008    2
So did Bush's Secretary of the Treasury, five years ago. Yet, today, what are we hearing? That it was the Bush administration "right-wing ideology" of "de-regulation" that set the stage for the financial crisis. Do facts matter? We also hear that it is the free market that is to blame. But the facts show that it was the government that pressured financial institutions in general to lend to subprime borrowers, with such things as the Community Reinvestment Act and, later, threats of legal action by then Attorney General Janet Reno if the feds did not like the statistics on who was getting loans and who wasn't. Is that the free market? Or do facts not matter? Then there is the question of being against the "greed" of CEOs and for "the people." Franklin Raines made $90 million while he was head of Fannie Mae and mismanaging that institution into crisis. Who in Congress defended Franklin Raines?

Congress approval rating just 10%
dl211
by dl211  10-3-2008    1
"A political establishment held in higher regard may have been able to hold together some kind of coalition of the willing," wrote Joel Achenbach in the Washington Post. "But distrust of the nation's leaders, from the leaders of Congress to the president, foreclosed that possibility." This was not mere rhetoric. Congress's public approval rating was down to 18% before the crisis hit. By some estimates, it is now 10% and falling. Washington has seen a "throw the bums out" mood before, notably Newt Gingrich's 1994 anti-government "Republican revolution". But this is something else. Like some others, Gingrich is calling for the resignation of Hank Paulson, the treasury secretary, for presiding over a train wreck and then failing to persuade people why $700bn was needed to get back on the rails.

AAE Declares Victory over 'Eco-Terrorists'
spirithiker
by spirithiker  10-2-2008
Typical 'us vs them' rhetoric but this group takes it too far. I am all for breaking our dependence on foreign oil, but current oil shale extraction technology is too water intensive, environmentally destructive, and too expensive to be considered a viable alternative to foreign oil. Any oil that is extracted will be sold to the higher profit markets overseas and we Americans will still be faced with high pump prices in addition to ruined landscape. Oil shale production requires lots of fresh water that is currently being used to irrigate food crops and ranch land which means producing oil will come at the cost of food production.

All the corrupt governments were in support of the regime when Imam Khomeini started his movement. ]]] and said the removal of the regime was not possible. But our people resisted and it is 27 years now that we have survived without a regime dependent on the United States. The tyranny of the East and the West over the world should have to end, but weak people who can see only what lies in front of them cannot believe this. Who would believe that one day we could witness the collapse of the Eastern Empire? But we could watch its fall in our lifetime. And it collapsed in a way that we have to refer to libraries because no trace of it is left. Imam said Sadda

Alliance Against Two Party Control

(cont.)Calling together candidates from the liberal, conservative, libertarian and progressive constituencies, who are all opposed to this rigged process, was designed to alert the American people to the uselessness of continuing to support a process that a claims that one’s only choice is to choose the lesser of two evils and reject a principle vote that might challenge the status quo as a wasted vote. In both political education and organization, coalitions are worthwhile and necessary to have an impact. “Talking to the choir” alone achieves little. I have always approached political and economic education with a “missionary” zeal by inviting any group in on issues we agree upon.

Equal pay for women (not in the Dem campaign)
sillysam
by sillysam  9-24-2008    2
As for Biden, his 14 male staffers split a total payroll outlay of $1,077,128.40. So, Biden’s average male employee earned $76,937.74 per annum. Biden’s 27 female employees divided $1,517,874.47, or $56,217.57, on average. Among Biden’s top five highest-paid aides, one was a woman. Among the top 20, 11 were women. All told, for every dollar that Biden paid his average male staffer, his female equivalent made only 73 cents. This number is significant. Not only does Biden discount women by more than a quarter per dollar paid to men, on average. Biden collides into the standard by which his own campaign berates major companies for alleged pay discrimination.

The Real Culprits - Part Three
davboz

While government arguably has a role in helping low-income folks buy a home, Clinton went overboard by strong-arming lenders with tougher and tougher regulations, which only led to lenders taking on hundreds of billions in subprime bilge. Market failure? Hardly. Once again, this crisis has government's fingerprints all over it.
