POPSScottish Earthquake Stuns Labour In the history of UK politics this a major event. The result brings the reality of the disintegration of the United Kingdom. At the same time it marks a stunning message to the UK quasi Labour government's abysmal record on addressing poverty and the forgotten constituencies of those mired in the excrement of Gordon Brown's economic policies.

POPSMAKING IT: How Chicago Shaped Obama. There was also a more general belief that, after Obama won the 2004 United States Senate primary, he ignored his South Side base. Preckwinkle said, “My view is you have to bring your constituency along with you. Granted, you have to make some tough decisions. Granted, sometimes you have to make decisions that people won’t understand or like. But it’s your obligation to explain yourself and try to do your supporters the courtesy of treating them with respect.” Ivory Mitchell, who for twenty years has been the chairman of the local ward organization in Obama’s neighborhood—considered the most important Democratic organization on the South Side—was one of Obama’s earliest backers. Today, he says, “All the work we did to help him get where he finally ended up, he didn’t seem too appreciative.” A year ago, Mitchell became a delegate for Hillary Clinton. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/07/21/080721fa_fact_lizza?printable=true

POPS10 Days that Changed Capitalism - H.M. Paulson "So the next step, no matter how it is dressed up, is likely to involve the government's moving in ways that put a floor under prices, hoping that will limit the downside risks enough so more Americans are willing to buy homes and deeper-pocketed investors are willing, in effect, to lend them the money to do so." If you are on the Right and you blindly follow the NeoCons, you need to read this article. Bush is without a doubt the second coming of the Wilsonian style presidency.

POPSCharles Richter Suffered With Asperger's - "I need not tell you that right now there are all the necessary means to create a decent world. The chief obstacles are ignorance; greed; militarism; nationalism; and the violence that stems either from a psychotic impulse to destruction, or from a feeling of inferiority and a desire for revenge." - It is painful to hear the same arguments now that we’re used to justify the two great wars -and along with them the same half truths, and probably some of the same lies". - In spite of the great development of information services the world has ever known, I think that no ordinary citizen has any real access to the facts on which he might base sound judgment on the national and social issues of our times". Hough closes her story by asking: " here we would be if Charles Richter's brain had been wired according to standard blueprints". The answer could be to on

POPSEarthquakes in the last 7 days You have to view this map to appreciate it fully. Don't let the 4 or 5 yellow flags fool you however. In a smaller map that I have on my computer, the entire span of earthquakes travels along the coast line north through California and Alaska. It's really weird to see the coast lit up along the Pacific. However, the quakes north of today's Mexico City quake are all blue flags representing 2.0+ on the richter scale. This "blue" activity seems to be the norm throughout California on any given day and they go unnoticed by the public at large. But I wonder how many of the coastal shakers were a reaction to Mexico City.
