Scene From a Palin Rally
Wisco
by Wisco  10-7-2008    1
Consider this snapshot from Dana Milbank a companion piece to my morning post . McCain-Palin has abandoned integrity and honor altogether, feeding the worst impulses of their most stupid and hateful supporters. Never again will you read a word in this space giving John McCain the benefit of a doubt or arguing that he should be dealt with respectfully. If respect must be earned, then so can it be lost. John McCain has lost any remaining respect I had for him and, I hope, that of any thinking American. He's allowed himself to be transformed by his ambition into pure scum. And his supporters? The less said about these assholes the better. WelKKKome to John McKKKain's AmeriKKKa...

Teacher Suspended In Obama Video Scandal
merrie
by merrie  10-7-2008    3
"As far as concerned, I think he gets what was supposed to come to him. But I don't think the children should be the victims of his stupidity." I find it disturbing that the superintendent knew about the political indoctrination underway and only objected to it being made public on the internet. Now, she claims to be disturbed by the politicization of school activities. The fact that her charges have been indoctrinated to chant that "because of Obama" they will accomplish marvelous things in life is far worse than making it public. video at link http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/10/teacher_suspended_in_obama_vid.html

Female Fighters: We Won't Stand for Male Dominance
dulios
by dulios  10-7-2008    1
Back in 1998, the fighters say, their now-jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan declared the group "a women's party." It was initially difficult to accept, says Karim, a 42-year-old male member of the PKK. Today, the PKK's ideology revolves around a belief that global crises and injustice are a result of millennia of male-dominated rule. Here, the women run their own assaults and have their own command structure. All tasks are shared, both on and off the battlefield. Discipline is paramount to survival, they say, and weapons are always clean and never out of reach.

The Tyranny of Paramilitary Police Raids and SWAT Teams
blueridge
by blueridge  9-17-2008    3
Great article and podcast from CATO on police extremism (terrorism) that is akin to fascism and contrary to the principles of "proportionate" responses to evidence of crimes, etc. The recent example of a Mayor in Maryland being held at military-style gun point (with his wife and mother-in-law) , after they shot his dogs is what sparked this issue more. These "over the top" police tactics must be stopped. Police increasingly are "swarming", using their paranoid principle of "overwhelming force", which is overwhelmingly irrational, yet is supported by politicians who want to appear "tough on crime", while being ridiculous. They mention in the short podcast that what you see on TV is not representative of what really happens commonly in these SWAT and other raids.

7 ways to cope during this campaign season
NonStatQuo

Before we take part in one of the most important elections of our life time, it is time to take a breath, to reflect, to take stock and BREATHE in some fresh air of positivity. STOP watching MSNBC, and FOX and STOP visiting Clipmarks (just kidding) and think about these 7 things... well, some of them don't apply specifically, but when I clipped this, it DID take away some of the anxiety I felt after watching Pat Buchannan and Keith Oberman

23andMe slashes price on personal genetics test

Along with providing genetic information to individuals, 23andMe is also compiling databases of customers' genetic information to make available to researchers seeking new insights into those links. The price cut will ideally mean an influx of new information that will speed discoveries in the lab, said Linda Avey, who co-founded the Mountain View-based company last November.

Credit Where It's Due [Mark Steyn]
merrie
by merrie  9-4-2008    4
I trust even now Maureen Dowd is working on a hilarious new column mocking proposed names for the Governor's first grandchild. Perhaps Richard Cohen can just take the week off and they can rerun his insightful analysis comparing the Palin nomination to Caligula making his horse a consul. Whereas we sophisticates all know that if McCain were as smart as Obama he'd have nominated a dead horse to be his consul. No wait...
