If your reaction to this clip is a blase "who cares" then the odds predict that you have a penis. It's remarkable that after centuries this outmoded way of thinking still holds sway. And what's even more remarkable is that women are sometimes responsible in not more forcefully opposing this outdated dogma.

Strange Rites
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  8-15-2008    2
From an outside perspective, this truly is a bizarre ritual that is reminiscent of old B-movies of virgins being thrown into volcanoes to appease the gods. I would bet that most believers don't share this viewpoint.

SCIENTISTS SHOW HALLUCINOGEN CREATES UNIVERSAL “MYSTICAL” EXPERIENCE
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  8-10-2008    6
in the 1950s, showed signs of therapeutic potential or value in research into the nature of consciousness and sensory perception. “Human consciousness…is a function of the ebb and flow of neural impulses in various regions of the brain-the very substrate that drugs such as psilocybin act upon,” Schuster says. “Understanding what mediates these effects is clearly within the realm of neuroscience and deserves investigation.” “A vast gap exists between what we know of these drugs-mostly from descriptive anthropology-and what we believe we can understand using modern clinical pharmacology techniques,” says study leader Roland Griffiths, Ph.D., a professor with Hopkins’ departments of Neuroscience and Psychiatry and Behavioral Biology. “That gap is large because, as a reaction to the excesses of the 1960s, human research with hallucinogens has been basically frozen in time these last forty years.”

Yelapa Paradise lost and found
zalisan
by zalisan  8-6-2008    1
Already thinking about the next break? Well, Jalisco way, wintertime is the best time to vacation. This little village, YELAPA, nestled in the Bay of Banderas on Mexico's west coast is a treasure waiting rediscovery. I had the good fortune finding this gem by chance. After one week was ready to pack up and relocate. This is not a place for those seeking creature conforts (they can also be found) rather, this is where you go to be a part of the community or just to RELAX. Electricity only arrived a couple of years ago, no automobiles to be found. All transportation is by foot, horse, mule or boat. No street lights, no streets. Flashlights needed. This is where you go to contemplate the possibilities, to reevaluate, to find that inner child and let her/him go free. The locals are warm, friendly, open, reseptive to ALL only asking that you in turn respect and enjoy this haven. Isabel is a remarkable woman and reason alone to visit Yelapa.

Geert Wilders
notareargunner
by notareargunner  8-6-2008
Very rarely nowadays does a radio interview provoke intense thought. Geert Wilders, rightly or wrongly, has chosen a course of action which offends the Muslim minority in his homeland, and the pinkie liberal effete who would rather betray every aspect of their heritage, to an ideology which promotes the amputation of limbs for petty theft and the discriminatory stoning of women for adultery. If that was enforced in the UK I know of several neighbourhoods that would rapidly be depleted of females whilst the obliging males would have to find other means of sexual gratification. Put this recording of the BBC 4 Choice programme on audio, listen whilst you knit a Union Flag for the troops in Afghanistan, and Iraq, and the Balkans, and in Northern Ireland - Ulster to many of us old farts, and for those taking drugs whilst the government orders those who do not to turn a blind eye. The ipod or recording can be listened to on http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/thechoice/pip/o83py/

Desecration
Efrain Alvarado
by Efrain Alvarado  8-3-2008    5
Science did not prevent me from doing any of this and the microscope and every other tool is just a construct of our immaterial intellects. So free yourself from scientism The scientific method is itself a being of reason and not provable by the scientific method. The empiro-metric method while quite useful for studying the intelligibility of the world comes short when it come to ontology. Ontological question are aided by these branches of science but the empiro-metric view can't be used to prove ontological questions. The three layers of abstraction Metaphysical, Mathematica, and Physica are not at odds to each other and we need to return to the view that theology is the queen of the sciences, though this does not change the importance of the other sciences. Faith vs. science is a silly debate when there is not a "versus" only an "and." By the way I do highly recommend The Science Before Science: A Guide to Thinking in the 21st Century

"paintings are talking you, beyond word" ...Buddhist art...
einbar
by einbar  7-30-2008
"The Buddha did not initiate the creation of sacred images. Once he said to a disciple, who wanted to see him before dying: «Oh, Vakkhali, why do you want to see this body, composed of unclear substances? He who perceives Dharma, Vakkhali, perceives me. He who perceives me perceives Dharma». Thus, as far as we know, there was no worship of the Buddha’s image in the early Buddhist community after his Parinirvāṇa.

Woe unto us who know and use His name. Will we not be held more accountable than others! Luk 12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. See how we are to walk humbly in grace and mercy helping them to receive his Spirit and Truth. Look here in Hebrews it is speaking of High Priests of whom he has called us to be. Heb 5:2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. Spirit and Truth together! Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. May Yahweh Bless all you that seek him, And may he draw YOU that have not yet sought him. in Yahshua's name. Always becoming more like Him!
