Parents blame kids’ failing test scores on Wikipedia

Another case of misuse of a wonderful resource and giving the resource a bad name! One comment at the site says this: "My university docks marks if you quote or reference Wikipedia. The nice thing about it is that it usually presents the “facts” in a general and easy to read manner, but provides references for more in depth study. Wikipedia should be an aid to study, but not used as a study resource exclusively. That’s what peer reviewed journals and books are for. In my high school days there was a similar problem with Encarta."

England vs.Britain vs. UK

I'm asking for help here from my friendly clippers. Is England considered a country? Is the United Kingdom considered a country? Is Northern Ireland considered a country or a province? This Wikipedia entry is confusing. The UK includes Northern Ireland, whereas Great Britain (or Britain) does not. Right? Thanks for helping me understand this better.

Maybe if certain Muslims tempered their over the top outrage over perceived insults and reined in their more radical leaders others would view them differently. Just a thought.

UK Parliament OK's EU Treaty, Irish Voters Rejected
blueridge
by blueridge  6-18-2008    1
The Irish people were right. The UK parliament was wrong and disenfranchised their people from their own national sovereignty. The Tories could not prevent it. There are certainly large majorities of people in England, Scotland and Wales absolutely opposed to being under EU government. So much for "representative" government! So while the Irish dissent, the most independent nation in Europe bows to the usurping EU body politic that will strip their right and enlarge the puzzle being built toward World Government jigsaw.

CCTV and Surveillance Cams Ineffective
blueridge
by blueridge  6-3-2008    1
Many UK studies have concluded same. But as with this article they always try to justify it anyway, despite the enormous cost of installing these police state grids. Let your state and local authorities know that not only do they trample the 4th amendment (treating all citizens like criminal suspects, without probable cause), but they do not deter crime or even catch many criminals. The "security merchandisers" are busy reaping profits from the trampling of your liberties by seducing authorities with the latest toys and technology.

Private Benjamin Or GI Jane? Brutal Bridal Boot Camp
merrie
by merrie  6-2-2008
First we're all measured and weighed. I'm here for one reason only - to look my best in my wedding photos. However, my BMI (Body Mass Index) is just about spot on as I'm 5ft 3in and 8 stone, so I'm told I might struggle, having less excess fat to draw on for energy. dinner is made up of strictly controlled (ie meagre) portions of soup, a small piece of salmon and a few strips of vegetable. The hard work starts tomorrow with circuit training on the lawn at 6am sharp. I turn in feeling hungry and anxious. Standing on the scales on the final morning, I've lost five pounds, and an inch from my thighs and hips. One of the other girls has lost a whopping 12 pounds and dropped not one, but two dress sizes. The Camp gave me the bridal body I had hoped for, and equipped me with the know-how to stay trim well into my married life. But most impressive of all, I survived the week.
