POPSHow International Bankers Gained Control of America "My paramount objective is to save the Union, and it is not either to save or destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it." So what was the Civil War all about? There were many factors at play. Northern industrialists had used protective tariffs to prevent their southern states from buying cheaper European goods. Europe retaliated by stopping cotton imports from the South. The Southern states were in a financial bind. They were forced to pay more for most of the necessities of life while their income from cotton exports plummeted. The South grew ncreasingly angry. But there were other factors at work. ... The central bankers now saw an pportunity to use the North/South divisions to split the rich new nation - t divide and conquer by war. Was this just some sort of wild conspiracy theory? Well, let's look at what a well placed observer of the scene had to say at time.(cont. at source)

POPSWhat I Like About Palin by David Warren The Ottawa Citizen I cannot think of better illustrations of the way women and blacks are reduced to stereotype by the American media, and all the other institutions of "political correctness." We see the same thing up here in Canada, with respect to women and our "visible minorities." They must not deviate from a script in which every female role model is a feminist and abortion enthusiast, every "visible" the heroic victim of oppression, demanding societal compensation. How better to cripple the individual aspirations of women and minorities? To them, the stark facts of Ms. Palin's reaction to a Down's syndrome pregnancy, and to her daughter's unseasonable one, shines as day to night against Mr. Obama's, "If my daughter makes a mistake, I don't want her punished with a baby." But there is good news, which comes through Sarah Palin herself, who, from what I can see, is ready for the trial-by-ordeal.

POPS Is Carly Fiorina Finished? A misfire So today top McCain strategist Carly Fiorina freelanced it a bit, and it didn’t work out - Fiorina was asked by a St. Louis radio station announcer if she thought Sarah Palin had the experience to run a company like Hewlett-Packard. Fiorina replied, “No, I don’t. But you know what? That’s not what she’s running for.” Another way to answer the question would have been, something like, perhaps: “Yes.” Another misfire That’s one stumble. But it went from bad to worse. In the next interview she clarified the first remark by stating John McCain couldn’t run a major company either. And then added that Obama and Biden were equally unqualified.

POPSLipstick Republican Women For Sarah! & Nice Pictures, Too McCain-Palin On Wall Street Crisis Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 9:45 AM The latest McCain-Palin ad shows a willingness to run with the news cycle, not against it. With shudders running through Wall Street that are felt by anyone with a 401(k), Team McCain releases an ad that says experience and real reform credentials trump the puffed up rhetoric of the community organizer and the senator from MNBA. It is very effective because it reminds people that real crises aren't solved on teleprompters Mike Allen reviews the intersection of the banking crisis and the campaigns, but McCain is a full march ahead of Obama, again. POPSCulture Wars continue Large numbers of Americans voted for Bush because he seemed like a regular guy, someone you'd want to have a beer with. Joe Six-Pack doesn't understand why the world and his culture are changing and why he doesn't have a say in it." The GOP appealed to Joe Six-Pack by harping on cultural issues like the "three Gs," gods, guns and gays. We are being played again.

POPSInvoking Fear of Faith "Believers are mocked (if not too publicly at election time). Sen. Barack Obama's behind-closed-doors remark in San Francisco to the effect that worried blue-collar chumps cling to God and guns perfectly captured the left's worldview, equating faith and firearms as equal menaces to an enlightened society." " I don't see extremism in Palin's faith. I see the love of God that prevails beyond the Beltway. The media's bigotry toward her tells us far more about the political biases and snobbery of journalists than it does about Sen. John McCain's running mate. In recent years, a succession of pundits has compared our country to ancient Rome. Most of the assertions are silly. But our governing elite certainly shares the Roman patricians' disdain for the faith of the common citizen. "
