POPSBus narrowly escapes Sea to Sky rock slide "Police are searching through the rock-slide scene on the highway that connects Vancouver to Whistler with dogs to make sure no one is trapped. "There are police dogs on the site, but there is no way of knowing if there is anybody trapped there," Squamish RCMP Cpl. Dave Ritchie said. "We're monitoring for any people reported overdue," he said. "We've done coast guard and air patrols at the edge of the debris and the water. We're hopeful there isn't anybody trapped in there.""

POPSAll this killing to "save" the salmon I remember reading about how WA & OR have "approval" to kill sea lions but this is still shocking. I know that they have suspended fishing for salmon but is killing sea lions really going to help the population? Aren't there a lot of other factors as to why the salmon population is down? like over fishing by people? the lack of rain & snow in the mountains? the changing ocean temperatures? Not sure who shot them but it all seems a bit extreme to me. Though, I don't live in WA or OR so I'm not sure how big salmon fishing is for those communities...

POPSScore one for the Ocean dwellers The Navy feels that human life is more important than the lives of the ocean dwellers. From the opposing point of view, humans are harming these creatures so that they can perfect ways to kill each other. And this makes sense?

POPS WildAid's War On Illicit Wildlife Trade Illegal wildlife trade is estimated to be worth $10 billion to $20 billion a year. Reaching China's 1.2 billion people is no easy task, but by recruiting the likes of Yao Ming, Jackie Chan and Chinese Olympic medalists as eloquent and passionate advocates, and with the support of Chinese state media, we are reaching nearly half the Chinese population with TV, messaging, "when the buying stops, the killing can, too." The illegal wildlife trade is estimated to be worth $10 billion to $20 billion a year, according to the U.S. State Department, and it traffics in all wild things from shark fins to elephant ivory, from rare orchids to valuable timber. It leaves behind a catalog of species on the brink of extinction and millions of animals suffering either a brutal death or inhumane transportation, and it poses a serious risk of transmission of diseases like avian flu and severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS.

POPSBlog: Tammy's adventures This is a nice blog. According to her blog intro, she has decided to take a a trip somewhere every couple of years. This one was to the Galapogos and surrounding area. I was impressed with the photo she took of the Equator landmark. I've never seen it let alone know there was such a landmark. Check out the smiling iguanas too! LOL What a hoot. Anyhow, she doesn't write a lot with her pics but there is a bit more to the descriptions than I clipped here. I just wanted to remember this site so I could visit it again to see where she goes next. ;)
