POPSSeed-Protecting Doomsday Vault Opens "The first 600 boxes—12 tons of seeds—already have arrived from 20 seed banks around the world, Norwegian Agriculture Minister Terje Riis-Johansen said. The first 75 boxes were to be carried into the vault by guests as part of the opening ceremony."

POPSGlobal seed bank to be Noah Ark of food The seed bank is carved into Norwegian permafrost-well it's permafrost at the moment. I hope they leave a map, and there's someone to plant them. I would also wonder if anyone that found them in the future would know anything about agriculture. If the seeds were needed, perhaps they'll just be hungry.

POPSDomesday Seed Bank Financed by the Norwegian government, the vault's £3 million construction has been overseen by the Global Crop Diversity Trust, an independent organisation dedicated to raising funds to protect the world's crop seeds. At the end of this month, during an opening ceremony attended by the Nobel Peace Prize-winning biologist Wangari Maathai, the Prime Minister of Norway, and the president of the EU, seeds from almost every country in the world will be placed deep inside. Agriculture has spent thousands of years adapting to the changing demands of life on this planet: shifts in climate, ever more virulent pests and diseases and the requirements of an exponentially expanding population, to name but three.

POPSWorld's Seeds Protector When Doomsday or any other apocalyptic thing happens, the seed's keeper will be the most important being in rebuilding the planet.

POPSArtic vault I wonder how many other types of vaults are in existence and what other uses this one has. Has anybody heard of others which have been built?

POPSDoomsday Vault Unveiled Big-Up the Norwegians for an interesting, forward looking project in a sensible place (rather than near an active volcano as one such site is). I just hope it isn't me who has to get there in the case of actually needing some of the samples after a catastrophe. Hmm. How long 'till it turns up in a book/film?
