POPSKent Conrad's Budget Angers Democratic Colleagues
Democrats think Conrad decided release his budget before the Gang of Six because the talks were collapsing. He is hoping to salvage the work of the bipartisan group by attracting a few Republicans to the more conservative plan. Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) said that Conrad gave no clear indication that the talks would result in a deal. “He said that it was up and down, up and down, up and down. But I don’t know whether it was up or down the last time he talked to us,” said Cardin after being briefed by Conrad, who is retiring at the end of this session. “I ask all the time,” said Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) of the halting progress of the Gang of Six. “Every day is a different story. One day I hear, ‘It’s great, we’re going to get a deal.’ The next day, they’re not. So I don’t know. The answer is, I honestly don’t know.” Republican, Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, suggested the secretive Gang of Six work and Conrad’s solo move were setting the table for a partisan food fight.

POPSUntangling Low-Income Budget Cut Claims <p> Anti-poverty advocates say millions of low-income Americans could be hurt by proposed spending cuts approved by the House earlier this year, but some of their claims are difficult to nail down, complicating an already contentious budget debate. Here’s one example. The House bill approved as part of a $61 billion package of spending cuts would provide no new money for vouchers to house homeless veterans. Senate Democrats called that “unacceptable,” reckless” “heartless” — even “immoral.” “If you get rid of this program, this is 10,000 vouchers — 10,000 veterans — who literally could be in the streets and die, get very ill,” Sen. Barbara Boxer of California said at a recent news conference. What she didn’t say is that the House did exactly what President Obama asked for in his 2011 budget. He requested a one-year break in the program because of a backlog in getting veterans into housing.

POPSNOT FEDERAL FUNDING OF ABORTION???
Boxer gathered with other Democratic senators at the press conference to "express their opposition to legislation being pushed by House Republicans this week that would endanger women's health by severely limiting their access to affordable health care and reproductive health services,” they said in a statement. Boxer continued: “I mean, if you start using their definition, I can tell you right now there’s no end to it. They can say, ‘We’re going to raise taxes for any family whose daughter ever had an abortion.’ I mean, let’s get real here. They’re twisting the meaning. It is not federal funding.” Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) also remarked, “When your company -- before the health care reform -- when your company bought health insurance for you and it was not considered income and, therefore, you weren’t taxed on it and it did cover all reproductive services, you could make the exact same argument. So, this is no change, right? You don’t have to agree with me, you’re

POPSWashington's "Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians" for 2010
..... proving that members of Congress, including — and perhaps especially — Barney Frank, were well aware that Fannie and Freddie were in deep trouble due to corruption and incompetence and yet they did nothing to stop it. Moreover, as the Globe notes, in July 2008, then-Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson says he called Frank and told him the government would need to spend “billions of taxpayer dollars to backstop the institutions from catastrophic failure.” Frank, despite that conversation, appeared on national television two days later and said the companies were “fundamentally sound, not in danger of going under.” Less than two months later, the government seized Fannie and Freddie and the bailout began. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL): This year’s trial of scandal-ridden former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich ended with “Blago” being convicted of only 1 of 24 charges related to the scheme to sell Obama’s vacated Senate seat to the highest bidder. But as the government ...

POPSElection Watch: "Senator Ma'am" Gets Caught Red Handed
The Boxer campaign, caught red-handed with their hands in the public school-electioneering cookie jar, admitted the authenticity of the letter but promptly issued a legalese-denial, non-apology style apology and punted responsibility to “volunteers” and a “junior staffer.” The HJTA easily disproves this defense, stating in the letter sent to LAUSD and LACBE: While claiming students will “gain an invaluable educational experience on one of the highest profile Senate races this election,” the letter candidly admits: “The Boxer campaign needs volunteers to help with various projects.” One with perhaps even a modicum of legal knowledge, command of the English language, and common sense will gather that certain language in the “Dear Teachers” letter (eg, “The Boxer campaign (needing) volunteers to help with various projects”) is a political solicitation by the campaign. The claim by Barbara Boxer’s campaign manager that the “Dear Teachers" ...

POPSMEET THE FALLUJAH FOUR.....!!!!
; this ignorance is appallingly possible, given that Waxman is a Democrat, and thus defaults to being appallingly pig-ignorant on national security, national defense, and foreign affairs. No word as of yet what the other three Members of Congress were thinking - or, indeed, whether they were thinking at all. No doubt if asked they will likewise deny treasonous intent on their part: it is generally preferable to be thought merely abjectly stupid, instead of guilty of a crime that technically carries the death penalty. After the fold is a list of the Fallujah Four - and their opponents in the upcoming election. For while being duped by pro-terrorist groups like Code Pink and Global Exchange is not treasonous, neither is it something to reward with a position of trust and responsibility in the United States government.
