“Who is the sovereign, the state or the federal government?”...Many states arevnow claiming that the federal government is consistently overstepping its bounds. Many seem to have forgotten that we're a union of 50 small little countries. Tired of being dictated to on matters for which the federal government has no constitutional authority, states are beginning to assert themselves.

POPSJava Drinkers in Washington Kick Off Coffee Parties WATCH THE COFFEE PARTY THERAPY SESSION I decided to attend the Coffee Party to find out what it is all about. Most of the people were really upset that the Tea Party movement has had so much success to thwart the Leftist agenda. The Coffee Party certainly isn't going to grow as large at the Tea Party movement unless people in the media continues to fawn over it. HowTheWorldWorks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgRGxuVP0_I

POPSHow to integrate Toodledo with Thunderbird This is the code you need to add to error console, but I think that just using the WAT extension is a better option. POPSAnger and defiance in Taiji after 'Cove' wins Oscar
Read some of the comments from Japan Times readers at the link Dolphins, in addition to being food, are also recognized in Taiji as crowd pleasers with their playful natures, leading to odd contrasts. Taiji fishermen capture some to sell to aquariums, and the area is dotted with ocean cages offering dolphin bonding sessions. “Dolphin Base” charges 2,000 yen for a 20-minute session less than half a mile from the cove where hundreds of the animals are stabbed and dragged ashore in the annual hunt. Like most residents of Taiji, the dolphin trainers repeatedly avoided talking to a foreign reporter—one young woman ran away when asked her opinion. At the nearby Dolphin Resort, a modern hotel complex with its own dolphin pool, manager Kiyo Ikeda agreed to be interviewed, as long as there were no questions about dolphins. “We really don’t get many foreign guests at this hotel,” she said. Many Taiji residents said they would no longer speak to foreign visitors on the record, afte

POPSObama to Retreat on KSM/Gitmo Detainee Civilian Trials…For Now President Obama’s advisers are nearing a recommendation that Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, be prosecuted in a military tribunal, administration officials said, a step that would reverse Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.’s plan to try him in civilian court in New York City.

POPSObama looking to give new life to immigration reform
According to a person familiar with the meeting, the White House may ask Schumer and Graham to at least produce a blueprint that could be turned into legislative language. The basis of a bill would include a path toward citizenship for the 10.8 million people living in the U.S. illegally. Citizenship would not be granted lightly, the White House said. Undocumented workers would need to register, pay taxes and pay a penalty for violating the law. Failure to comply might result in deportation. Nick Shapiro, a White House spokesman, said the president's support for an immigration bill, which would also include improved border security, was "unwavering." Participants in the White House gathering also pointed to an immigration rally set for March 21 in Washington as a way to spotlight the issue and build needed momentum. Though proponents of an immigration overhaul were pleased that the White House wasn't abandoning the effort, they also wanted Obama to take on a more assertive

POPSJones, Perry gear up for District 83 runoff AUSTIN - It won't be exactly David taking on Goliath, but the ever-optimistic Lubbock accountant Charles Perry thinks he can defeat longtime state Rep. Delwin Jones in the April 13 runoff. Perry's strategy is simple: Portray the Lubbock Republican - who has served in the Texas Legislature for 29 years - as part of what's wrong with Austin and Washington. As for Jones, his strategy is just as simple: Emphasize why it's important that voters in Texas House District 83 give him another two-year term. With redistricting and a projected state budget shortfall now estimated to be at least $15 billion coming up in next year's session, this is no time for West Texas to have too many rookie legislators, he said.

POPSDPJ-led bloc's vote passes 2010 budget The Democratic Party of Japan-led coalition passed the fiscal 2010 budget in the Lower House on Tuesday evening, having survived relentless grilling from the opposition over a series of political funding scandals. Although the opposition, led by the Liberal Democratic Party, voted against the plan in the Lower House Budget Committee, it was supported by the DPJ and its two junior partners, the Social Democratic Party and Kokumin Shinto (People's New Party). The ¥92.3 trillion budget and related bills cleared the plenary session vote with the ruling coalition's comfortable majority.

POPSGov: Vt. Yankee debate far from over Vermont's governor says the debate over the state's only nuclear power plant is far from over. Wednesday, the state Senate voted against allowing Vermont Yankee to operate past 2012. But Governor Jim Douglas calls that vote just political theater, suggesting it was rash to vote so soon when there's so much up in the air about the plant's safety and management. Meanwhile the House of Representatives could still write its own nuclear bill, but support for the power plant would likely be killed if a House bill were to go to the Senate this session. "We've been addressing a lot of issues around the Vermont Yankee plant," said Rep. Shap Smith, D-Vt. House Speaker. "We will continue to do that and we haven't made a decision on whether we'll take a vote on the question of continued operation."

POPSBettendorf's former library director wants his job back One weekend after former Bettendorf Public Library director Steven Nielsen’s last day on the job, he has decided to reapply for the post. Library board president Patty Herzberg said the board will meet in executive session Thursday to discuss how to fill the director vacancy. This time, Nielsen’s application will show he is close to completing a master of library science degree, at the library’s expense. Nielsen began taking classes toward the degree in September 2008 after the Iowa Commission of Libraries threatened to pull the Bettendorf library’s state accreditation because he does not have a master of library science degree.
