POPSWorld's Oceans: Is it too Late to Save Our Most Precious Resource? See site for more links and info The problem in the Pacific is so severe a humongous plastic-strewn patch floats between California and Hawaii within the North Pacific Gyre. According to the man who first discovered it in 1997, Captain John Moore, this patch is 1 ½ times the size of the contiguous United States and goes to a depth of at least 100 feet. And there is another huge rubbish patch off the coast of Japan. (View a YouTube video of Captain Moore visiting the Pacific garbage patch )

POPSIsn't that Ironic?
Wow, how funny that a conservative Christian leader is chastising Obama saying he's distorting and mis-interpreting the bible. Isn't that what these conservative, radical Christian leaders do everyday? They treat some passages in the bible as law directly from god, and others as not being applicable in today's world. They also translate the original language of the bible differently to represent the views they want to present in the time. Translating some words to mean one thing, even though historically they may have meant something else. Again, it's fine if you want to believe your religious views - no problem with that. But when you start trying to use the law to enforce your rules on people who don't hold your same beliefs, that's where I have issues. I think Obama made a great point with his statements. And by the way for Mr Dobson - Jesus didn't discourage slavery in the New Testament, and actually referenced it several times. Or is that one of those passages you s

POPSJames Dobson accuses Obama of `distorting' Bible Obama is correct on this. Dobson and Minnery are basically slamming those who do not acknowledge the New Testament - where Obama is at least acknowledging the Old and New. What irritates me about religion are those that think their version is the absolute truth (Dobbs/Minnery as an example) since they are no different then the radical Islamic groups.

POPSKennedy Dumped Diesel Fuel Into Nantucket Sound CCToday writes: The top photo is grainy because it was taken from a quarter-mile away and blown up. The lower one of the diesel fuel in the water at the stern of Mya is a close-up. When told that he was moored in coastal waters near shellfish beds and people swimming, the man replied, "whatever." F. Scott Fitzgerald's character Gatsby was right when he said, "the rich are different than you and I."

POPSI'm Getting Healthy The Hard Way One final tip: Keep your sense of humor. "Years ago, my husband and I were having a big spat, really yelling at each other," says Verstegen. "I screamed at him, 'You're so selfish!' There was this long silence and then he said, 'Did you just call me a shellfish?' I started laughing and that was the end of the fight. " *LOL*

POPSThe Platypus We watched the Wonder Pets save the baby platypus this morning. My daughter asked me about the nest, since they lay eggs. In researching this, I discovered that the male platypus is venomous.

POPSRisking Kids To Sell Fish In addition, as reported by National Public Radio, the effort to publicize the report was subsidized by a $60,000 grant from the National Fisheries Institute. Further, Bloomberg News reported that the institute is a client of public relations giant Burson-Marsteller, and one of the firm's employees serves as vice chairman of the coalition. Such facts suggest ethical lapses in financing the report; worse, material used in its preparation was flawed. The misleading report is a classic example of industry-driven marketing under the cloak of scientific research.

POPSAnise Anise is used whole or crushed in cookies, cakes, breads, cheese, pickles, stews, fish, and shellfish. Roasting enhances the flavor. Middle East, Portuguese, German, Italian, and French cuisines use anise in seasoning blends such as curry, hoisin, sausage, and pepperoni seasonings.

POPSWhy Can't I Own a Canadian? Many believers will spout of claims of the bible and attempt to force people to live by those, even going so far as to persecute and antagonize those that do not "fit" (e.g. homosexuals, free thinkers, witches, etc) but they often overlook their own hypocrisy and cherry pick the various laws of the bible. This letter questions an advocate against homosexuality about those other, lesser mentioned, laws.
