POPSThis is my Kind of Guy--Inyerface, in the Army and Green The banner remained hanging for seven hours, which speaks volumes about the sentiment among enlisted personal on the base. The fact this incident wasn’t reported also tells something about the attitude of the press. The accomplishment of which Bartelli feels most proud from his service was when he was assigned to design an infrastructure that would bring low cost power, solar and wind, to remote Afghan villages. “I spent a considerable amount of time writing and talking with vendors from Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, coming up with a plan that was affordable and as locally based as possible. By giving them solar and wind, fully sustainable, we could bring electricity to the villages.” While the chain of command eventually rejected it, there was little doubt Bartelli’s commanding officer chose him for this project because of his outspokenness on the environment.

POPSIn US, Solar Panels Get Aesthetic Designs At first you don't even notice they're solar," said Tony Fortenberry, who bought a home in Rockland, California, in September with solar panels manufactured by SunPower on its roof. "The tiles are completely integrated into the roof," Fortenberry said. "It has a more elegant appearance and it doesn't look like an add-on."

POPSThe market for plug-in cars is fast approaching Very exciting stuff. This is no longer the talk of what's ifs and hypotheticals...it's reality and it's coming soon. In my opinion, the introduction of plug-in cars will be a major catalyst for the development of additional sources of energy - including more wind and solar generated. It will also be the tipping point for allocating the massive resources needed to upgrade our nation's power grid.

POPSWeb pioneer Gross revitalized by green energy Bill Gross is the Ron Popeil of Internet entrepreneurs...or perhaps the failed car man and innovator Preston Tucker ;) I am excited to see what he will do with his alt energy incubator. Maybe he will once again innovate enough to help shape the green economy. But, with regard to his claim of becoming more disciplined than he was in the 90's...I'll take the under. Good luck Bill, i'm pulling for you!

POPSOil price puts solar in spotlight It is amazing that the enormous power plant in the sky, the sun, has remained mostly untapped despite serious concerns about our energy security, health, and economy. Today, only a fraction of a percent of the world's electricity generation comes from solar energy. The good news is that the promise of solar energy, particularly solar thermal, is extraordinary as it can be used to generate electricity in large quantities.

POPSWorld 1st: Wave-powered Boat Completes Journey from Japan to Hawaii
This guy is my hero! Horie told reporters in Japan: "The sea was so calm, and the weather was so great throughout my journey. That's why it took me so long," Kenichi Horie said of his historic voyage. The vitals are that Kenichi left Honolulu March 16th, arrived in Wakayama, Japan last night (which by our calculation makes 110 days), and covered over 3,400 nautical miles via wave power. "When waves were weak, the boat slowed down. That's the problem to be solved." !n 1996 Ken-ichi Horie has already set a world record for the fastest crossing of the Pacific Ocean in a solar-powered boat, preceded three years earlier when he pedaled a boat for 4,660 miles from Hawaii to Okinawa, setting the world record for the longest distance traveled by a pedal-powered boat. POPSGeothermal power There are alternatives! For more info. go to site. Geothermal energy offers a number of advantages over traditional fossil fuel based sources, primarily that the heat source requires no purchase of fuel. From an environmental standpoint, emissions of undesirable substances are small.
