POPSShifting Poles Theory
The Pole shift hypothesis is not to be confused with geomagnetic reversal, the periodic reversal of the Earth's magnetic field (effectively switching the north and south magnetic poles). Geomagnetic reversal has more acceptance in the scientific community than pole shift hypotheses. The Pole shift hypothesis is almost always discussed in the context of Earth, but other bodies in the Solar System may have experienced axial reorientation during their existences. The theory says that the outer crust of the Earth has moved several times in the past and would move in the future, just as the loosely peeled skin of an orange (or avocado) could be slid around the stationary inner fruit. Charles Hutchins Hapgood (1904 " December 1982) was an American academician, and one of the best known advocates of the Pole shift theory. Based primarily on accepted, technical data, Hapgood argued that each shift took approximately 5,000 years, followed by 20,000 to 30,000 year periods with no polar movem

POPSAn Open Letter to the Council of the American Physical Society Studies of a variety of natural processes, including ocean cycles and solar variability, indicate that they can account for variations in the Earth’s climate on the time scale of decades and centuries. Current climate models appear insufficiently reliable to properly account for natural and anthropogenic contributions to past climate change, much less project future climate. The APS supports an objective scientific effort to understand the effects of all processes – natural and human --on the Earth’s climate and the biosphere’s response to climate change, and promotes technological options for meeting challenges of future climate changes, regardless of cause. POPSThe Celtic Zodiac: The Origin of Halloween
Notes from the artist: The Ancient Origins of Halloween In today's world it is often difficult for us to imagine that there were ancient civilizations that came long before us, who were more aware and in tune with nature, astronomy and astrology than we are today with all of our advanced knowledge and technology. Approximately one thousand years B.C., a religious order of Celtic priests known as the Druids lived in the British Isles. They used a lunar calendar that consisted of 13 months, with each month having within it 28 days, plus an additional day which was added to the calendar as in a leap year, to correspond to the solar/lunar year. This 13 month calendar was used by the Druids to calculate their year and important festivals. The Druidic religion focused on the natural and supernatural energies of the universe which they identified with the spirits of their sacred trees. These sacred trees formed the basis of the Druid astrological zodiac.

POPSLand Use Comparison - Solar Panels vs Feeding Pets I was quite amazed by this at first. Yet, when I thought about a bit longer, it did not particularly surprise me. It is just another one of those things that sits right under our noses, that we miss. "Can't see the forest through the trees" type of thing.

POPSChannels associated with impact craters discovered on Mars If a significant amount of water was released or mobilized by the formation of the Hale Crater impact, larger impacts that formed during the early days of the Solar System may have been able to bring even more water to the surface of Mars. If this is true, a long-term, stable, warm and wet climate may not be required to explain the presence of such channels in the ancient Martian landscapes.
