POPS Waivers Jump from 222 to 729 Covering 2.2 Million Employees ...The list includes the usual assortment of union locals and businesses. I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to suggest that OCIIO was asked to hold this development until after the SOTU. Indeed the latest waiver approved in the list is from December 30th. There is an addendum at the bottom of the page noting that four states–Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, and Tennessee–have applied for waivers covering another 93,000 people. waivers jump from 222 to 729 covering 2.2 million employees more... http://hotair.com/

POPSThe Most Offensive Line In The State Of The Union In other words, from a purely economic point of view, slavery is exactly like as if every day you worked, and every day you were paid at the end of the day, but also every day a thief set upon you and took your money. As George Harrison said of the Taxman: “You’re working for no one but me.” And Obama thinks that is a good thing. An income tax is barely tolerable in a free society. It is arguably a necessary evil, but it is definitely an evil. A government that fails to recognize that this is your money it is taking, is intolerable. After all, our president thinks that when you keep the fruits of your labor, that this is federal spending. And that should bother any person who believes in individual liberty. POPS$ame Old, $ame Old… Obama Will Call For More $pending in SOTU AddreSS
President Barack Obama will call for new government spending on infrastructure, education and research in his State of the Union address Tuesday, sharpening his response to Republicans in Congress who are demanding deep budget cuts, people familiar with the speech said. Mr. Obama will argue that the U.S., even while trying to reduce its budget deficit, must make targeted investments to foster job growth and boost U.S. competitiveness in the world economy. The new spending could include initiatives aimed at building the renewable-energy sector—which received billions of dollars in stimulus funding—and rebuilding roads to improve transportation, people familiar with the matter said. Money to restructure the No Child Left Behind law’s testing mandates and institute more competitive grants also could be included. While proposing new spending, Mr. Obama also will lay out significant budget cuts elsewhere, people familiar with the plans say, though they will likely ...

POPSPolitical Futures e couldn't resist more banker baiting, and he promised that he's determined to see tax rates rise for millions of Americans next year when the Bush rates are set to expire. He also pushed more exports while saying he'll raise taxes on some of our biggest exporters, otherwise known as multinationals that 'ship our jobs overseas.' Mr. Obama believes he can conjure jobs and a durable expansion from the private sector while waging political war on its animal spirits. It can't be done. POPSSOTU Address Notches 4th Lowest Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Score Since FDR -- 'Professor' Obama?
However, a Smart Politics analysis of nearly 70 oral State of the Union Addresses since the mid-1930s finds the text of Obama's speech on Wednesday evening to have one of the lowest scores on the Flesch-Kincaid readability test ever recorded by a U.S. President. The Flesch-Kincaid test is designed to assess the readability level of written text, with a formula that translates the score to a U.S. grade level. Longer sentences and sentences utilizing words with more syllables produce higher scores. Shorter sentences and sentences incorporating more monosyllabic words yield lower scores. Obama's Flesch-Kincaid grade level score of 8.8 for his first State of the Union Address was the fourth lowest score since FDR's first Address in 1934. What this means is that Obama wrote and delivered a speech that incorporated shorter sentences, with those sentences containing shorter words, than nearly every such Presidential Address in the modern era.

POPSLexington And Concord Revisited - The Brown Upset and What It Means You can expect to see this president trash talking quite outrageously when it comes to this years' State of the Union speech, due out January 27th. I could almost write a critique of the coming speech in advance. Obama will blame George W. Bush, of course. That tired tune still resonates with the true believers although recent numbers suggest that it isn't anything like the hit song it was a year ago. He will blame 'obstructionists' the Republicans and 'the old politics as usual' for his mishaps. And expect him to do the class war dance, blaming 'the banks', 'Wall Street' 'big insurers' and 'the special interests' for everything he can't lay at Bush's feet. I wouldn't even be surprised to hear him make a call for fiscal responsibility...after he and the Democrats quadrupled the nation's debt like an out-of control teen at the mall armed with daddy's credit card.

POPSRasmussen: Americans Not Buying What Obama Was Selling At SOTU On the spending freeze: Regarding another initiative detailed in the speech on Wednesday night, just nine percent (9%) of voters believe the president’s proposed freeze on discretionary spending will have a big impact on the deficit. (http://bit.ly/9w6CTH) The numbers get worse why party affiliation is taken into account. On all questions, only Democrats believe what Obama was selling and even then by small margins. The majority of Republicans and Independents simply were not buying any of it. The only silver lining for Obama is that Democrats opinion of Obama increased after the State of the Union address. There was no change for Republicans and Independents. The problem for Obama is that he is using very old Chicago style politics in a very new political era. Many voters on the right and in the middle have become much more active. They are now following political news much more closely than before.

To call upon the Congress to countermand (somehow) by statute a constitutional decision, indeed a decision applying the First Amendment? ...this was a truly shocking lack of decorum and disrespect towards the Supreme Court for which an apology is in order. A new tone indeed." • Bradley Smith, a Professor of Law at Capital University, leveled withering criticism at the President's behavior: "... statement is false. POPS About Last Night OK, some right reax. NRO: Obie misrepresents the Citizens United decision. It’s HotAir’s Obamateurism of the Day. POPSSupreme Court Historian: After Insult Won’t Be Surprised If Supreme Court Doesn’t Attend Next Year’s SOTU
from ABC News Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper It has also raised eyebrows among legal commentators. At Legal Times, Tony Mauro headlined one blog post “Supreme Court Turns Out for Tongue-Lashing at State of the Union.” The way the president deviated from the prepared text indicated he may have tried to soften his remarks as he made them. He added “with all due deference to separation of powers” and replaced his desire that Democrats and Republicans “pass a bill that helps to right this wrong” with one for lawmakers to “pass a bill that helps to correct some of these problems." Listening to the speech Justice Samuel Alito could be seen mouthing the words “that’s not true.” “I think Alito’s correct,” Powe told ABC News. “They weren’t overthrowing 100 years’ worth of history. They were overthrowing 20 years’ worth.” Supreme Court Historian: from ABC Jake Tapper http://bit.ly/d79mup

POPSMister Speaker ..... Mark Steyn As to the content, I think there are several broad stylistic problems that, cumulatively, lead to a bigger one, identified by (of all people) The New York Times's Bob Herbert: Mr Obama is in danger of being perceived as someone whose rhetoric, however skillful, cannot always be trusted. Why is that? Well, look at the SOTU opening. It's eloquent, but in a cheesily generic way, as if one of his speechwriters was sent over to Barnes & Noble to pick up a copy of State of the Unions for Dummies: They have done so during periods of prosperity and tranquility. And they have done so in the midst of war and depression; at moments of great strife and great struggle. It’s tempting to look back on these moments and assume that our progress was inevitable " that America was always destined to succeed. But when the Union was turned back at Bull Run and the Allies first landed at Omaha Beach, victory was very much in doubt.

POPSObama Bombs On SOTU There is no way to sell the stimulus crap, but he is wasting time trying. He is angry, frustrated and defensive. Update: Obama asked how long should we wait to address issues? Simple answer: until you are out of office. And since when is Communist China the model for America’s free market??? Disaster. Update: The man is a dupe " there is no overwhelming evidence on of global warming. He is going to look an idiot as the global warming con becomes exposed over this year. Update: LJStrata and DJStrata noticed a lot of dems (the First Lady included) wore purple, supposedly to signal their allegiance to independents? How lame. Update: Speaking of fixing our education system and strengthening math skills, did anyone catch the fact that the average savings on mortgage payments was $1500, which I think is close to the average monthly payment. So how is it the the average savings would mean now payments???? Math skills and liberalism don’t mix.

POPS Awaiting the Soros-Obama SOTU The State of the ‘Re-making America’ Revolution While most voters now regret their willingness to let the experience factor go by the wayside in the last presidential election, Soros knew that the nearly complete inexperience of his own candidate would be his best friend. Soros has brought about his “velvet revolutions” using not experienced political power-brokers, but by financing NGOs (non-governmental organizations). So, for Soros’ purpose of ushering in a global government with oligarchs like him in charge to replace American supremacy, Barack Obama’s campaign “charisma” was the vital ingredient. His lack of experience meant, also, that Obama would be forced to rely on the various socialist think tanks and NGOs that Soros has been funding and guiding for two decades now.
