POPSShould Barack Obama Have Skipped Europe And Gone Home? Yes, he was treated as an equal by a world leader. t was great theatre but the Frenchman came off as - how can I put this delicately - a complete clown. We'll see what happens in London but it'll be Gordon Brown hoping a little bit of the Obama magic rubs off rather than the other way round. And then there was the unseemly dispute with the Pentagon over Obama's abandoned plan to visit wounded American troops - something he could have done without. Perhaps the Illinois senator - who drew giggles from the assembled press when he had to point out in Paris that he was not the US president - should have flown back direct from Israel. POPSDying with Grace If you have not heard/viewed his speech, I cannot recommend it enough. Wonderful man. Will be sorely missed.

POPS A leading statesman puts the case against nuclear weapons David Lange, prime minister puts a devastating case against nuclear weapons. This argument is I believe once again very relevant. He argued that New Zealand had no nuclear enemies. The situation now, with the fall of the soviet union is that we are imagining them. The whole speech is presented verbatim.

POPSSig Heil The column behind Obama is The Victory Column. It is a German commemorative landmark. Obama gave his speech at the site of The Victory Column. It was given prominence by Adolph Hitler and the source of the term Sig Heil is traced to this landmark. Yes, coincidence. But, very interesting I think.

POPS20K 200K it's all new math to me So when they say the only the top percentage of wage earners (those earning over $200K) will see a tax increase, will that be the top 5% or 50%???? New math... sux.

POPSNothing says ‘drill safely’ like the smell of diesel in the French Quarter "Nobody was injured, but more than 419,000 gallons of heavy, almost tar-like fuel oil spilled from the barge, forming a slick 12 miles long, said Lt. Cdr. Cheri Ben-Iesau, a Coast Guard spokeswoman." The collision occurred about 1:30 a.m. CDT just upriver from the Crescent City Connection, a pair of bridges between New Orleans’ east and west banks. ~and I repeat~ "Nothing says “drill safely now” like an oil spill that closes 29 miles of the Mississippi River near New Orleans."

POPSObama Addresses 'Tens of Thousands' in Berlin The piece goes on: "The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand," said Obama, in an address beamed live on US and German television channels and to viewers around the world. "The walls between races and tribes; natives and immigrants; Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down," Obama said, drawing cheers and applause. Obama's website has the full speech.

POPSNew Memory Technologies Considering the recent advances in Brain-Machine interface, and the development of new neural implants, it is quite clear that Memory management is only the tip of the iceberg, I definitely agree with D.Peletier that the main effect of these new technologies will be to vastly improve our wellbeing

POPSHousing Bill Passes Ron Paul has a very educational speech on this "bailout" Go here to watch, the video is in the upper right hand corner "Congressman Paul talks about the Housing Bill". http://www.house.gov/paul/index.shtml

POPSNY Passes Video Game Label Law Similar laws have been thrown out in states including California and Illinois -- and it's a good thing, because they're absolutely stupid. Why should video game makers be forced by law to label their wares this way, and not creators of other forms of media?

POPSTories in Rwanda Blackpool Tories take their lead from Cameron and join the Tories volunteers in a country that has not association with Britain what-so-ever. Why? There are Africans in Blackpool who can tell them exactly what Central Africa is like, why waste their own time. Getting to grips with the problems of housing and poverty in Blackpool would be more beneficial and practical. professor Peter Beighton, Chair of Genetics at Cape Town University could enlighten them to many aspects of needs with 35 years experience of the Continent. A 4 week soiree is nothing more than an idiots' folly , and they want you to pay for it. Tip. Do not take that fat Tory Pickles. He could feed a kraal for a month.

POPSObama's Youth: Hope, Change And Snappy Uniforms 50 hours a year. 100 hours for college students, provided their type of service is deemed acceptable by a sprawling new Federal bureaucracy. Oh, and Obama's going to double the size of the Peace Corps while quadrupling AmeriCorps. I'm curious if anyone will be left to fill all the newly vacated private sector jobs. St. Barack concluded his speech with this gem: "Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it." But what if I love my country the way it is? Throwing more kerosene on the mob's torches, Obama is moving his nomination acceptance speech to Denver's 75,000-seat outdoor stadium. And is thinking about a speech at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate. Odd that he didn't choose Nuremberg. We've talked a lot about Liberal Fascism. Apparently, it wasn't a moment too soon. UPDATE: A Lizard invasion? Thanks for the LGF link, Charles!

POPSBad Moon Rising The British upper 1% parrot the US upper 1%. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside (sic). However, Brown did state that Israel needs to back off in regards to the Palestinian state. Of course the Israelis didn't take kindly to this, sticking to their own version of manifest destiny.
