"World Trade Has Collapsed... Shipping Lines Have Become Graveyard Archipelagos"
merrie
by merrie  9-19-2009    1
Yet all of this is beyond the land, and thus far from sight. Of course, who needs trade when you have a speculative market trading in its own bubble, hitting yearly highs day after day, thanks only and exclusively to the Chairman's printing press. It is a pity these ships can not sail in the sea of hundred dollar bills that is being created each and every day at the Federal Reserve, whose only use these days it seems is to buy junker stocks and to feed the algos that lift whatever offers are stupid enough to float in the equity market." Thousands Of Rusting Ship Hulls Are A Fitting Tribute To The Speculative Market Bubble To view enlarged images please visit website (green indicates operating ship, red denotes a ship out of spot/charter and currently unused) http://www.zerohedge.com/article/thousands-rusting-ship-hulls-are-fitting-tribute-speculative-market-bubble

The first picture is of the Kauai Maelstrom in Hawaii. It's probably the most beautiful of them all. If you would like a wallpaper of it or any size picture, click on the source above the picture. The two videos at the end are of the Saltstraumen Maelstrom in Norway, the largest and most powerful maelstrom in the world. For more pictures and information, click on the source at the very top of the clip.

Social Justice
foxyarse
by foxyarse  6-28-2009    1
Social justice is what faces you in the morning. It is awakening in a house with adequate water supply, cooking facilities and sanitation. It is the ability to nourish your children and send them to school where their education not only equips them for employment but reinforces their knowledge and understanding of their cultural inheritance. It is the prospect of genuine employment and good health: a life of choices and opportunity, free from discrimination. Mick Dodson, Annual Report of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, 1993

Tops Jobs more important than patients
notareargunner
by notareargunner  4-16-2009
Not an apology for exposing the dire strait that some hospitals function under, but a whipping dog for the pathetically inept management of some NHS Trusts. This is what Labour stands for, because no matter how you address this situation it is an obvious political assassination of an individual exposing the truth about the Nation State. I take on board the privacy of the patients, and their need for such, but I would prefer them to get decent nursing and good care when they have no-one except the state to care for them. So what has happened to the top managers who allowed the appalling state of the hospital to occur? A huge pension and a slap on the back for finally starting what the BBC Panorama programme had to expose - for the benefit of those who cannot speak for themselves? Under this type of management we are all damned.

by clip-on-tie  4-3-2009
The City of Rayville was en route to Melbourne when it struck a mine in a newly-laid German minefield in the Bass Strait on Nov. 8, 1940, going down in 70 meters (230 feet) of water off Cape Otway. Just 24 hours earlier, the British steamer S.S. Cambridge was sunk after hitting a mine off the nearby Wilsons Promontory in Victoria state.
