POPSLearning How Not To Be Afraid When Kandel's team used radiation to blunt the birth of new cells in the dentate gyrus, they discovered that their interventions both slowed safety learning and stunted the antidepressant effects of learned safety. Another study that points to the origin of fear as a biological entity. the glitch is it turning into anxiety.

POPSHome Remedies For Bad Breath Bad breath, also known as halitosis, is a very common temporary condition caused by such things as oral dryness, stress, hunger (ketosis), eating certain foods such as garlic and onions, smoking, or poor oral hygiene. Bad breath is caused by odor-producing bacteria that grow in the mouth. When people don't brush and floss regularly, bacteria accumulate on the bits of food left in the mouth and between the teeth. The sulfur compounds released by these bacteria make the breath smell.

POPSWomen Hit Hardest By Economic Stress Data from the American Psychological Association's new 2008 Stress in America Survey shows that, compared to men, women are more stressed about money (83 percent vs. 78 percent), the economy (84 percent vs. 75 percent), job stability (57 percent vs. 55 percent), housing costs (66 percent vs. 58 percent) and health problems affecting their families (70 percent vs. 63 percent). Women ages 44 and up are most likely to report the economy as a major source of stress. Experts say that if Americans continue experiencing these high levels of stress for extended periods of time it could up their risk of developing serious illnesses. POPSBailout Might Make Things Worse * Hundreds of leading economists, including numerous Nobel prize winners, question the bailout * Former White House economist (Steve Hanke) adamantly opposes the bailout * Nobel prize economist and former chief economist of the World Bank (Joseph Stiglitz) opposes the bailout *The former Secretary of the Treasury (Paul O'Neill) questions the bailout * A prominent economist (Nouriel Roubini) says "The Treasury plan is a disgrace: a bailout of reckless bankers, lenders and investors that provides little direct debt relief to borrowers and financially stressed households and that will come at a very high cost to the US taxpayer. And the plan does nothing to resolve the severe stress in money markets and interbank markets that are now close to a systemic meltdown." * A highly-regarded economist (Michael Hudson) says that the bailout is a giveaway that will cause hyperinflation and dollar collapse

POPSThe right Strategy may not be Enough for McCain "Lower marginal tax rates will reward work, investment, and risk-taking. They also will put money in people’s pockets as they keep more of what they earn." Kudlow is probably right, this does seem McCain's best shot. The problem is that it is too little and too old.

POPSTaliban severs ties with al Qaeda - seeks peace No matter how CNN spins this - we have slaughtered the Taliban until their forces and leadership are depleted, and they have lost the will to fight. This is what is known as victory. It is the same sort of victory we are experiencing in Iraq. The democrats and the mainstream media are so unfamiliar with the concept of "victory" they can't recognize it. It is the kind of victory liberal democrats would never achieve, because it takes courage, foresight, and patient fortitude - - all qualities they lack. I believe only President Bush was capable of taking the war to the enemy, and seeing it through. History will be very good to him.

POPSDon't Stress! Bacterial Cell's 'Crisis Command Center' Revealed If a bacteria cell finds itself in a dangerous situation - for example, if the temperature or saltiness of the bacteria's environment reach dangerous levels which threaten the survival of the bacteria -a warning signal from the cell's surface is transmitted into the cell. Using cutting edge electron microscopy imaging techniques the authors of the new research observed that the stressosomes receive this warning signal, and in response several proteins called RSBT break away from the large stressosome. This breakaway triggers a cascade of signals within the cell which results in over 150 proteins being produced - proteins which enable the cell to adapt, react and survive in its new environment.

POPSAntisocial Behavior May Be Caused By Low Stress Hormone Levels "The differences between participants with severe antisocial behaviour and those without were most marked under stressful conditions. While the average adolescents showed large increases in the amount of cortisol during the frustrating situation, cortisol levels actually went down in those with severe antisocial behaviour. These results suggest that antisocial behaviour may be more biologically-based than previously considered, just as some individuals are more vulnerable to depression or anxiety due to their biological make-up."
