POPSUri Avnery: 1948 At the time, the Jews constituted only a third of the population. The hundreds of Arab villages throughout the country dominated the main arteries that were crucial to our survival. We suffered heavy casualties in our efforts to open them, especially the road to Jerusalem. We honestly felt that we were "the few against the many". Our side was preparing for the massive attack of the Arab armies and we could not possibly leave a large hostile population at our rear. This military necessity was, of course, intertwined with the more or less conscious desire to create a homogeneous Jewish territory. ccording to the UN resolution, the "Jewish state" was to include more than half of Palestine (as it existed in 1947 under the British Mandate). In this territory, more than 40% of the population was Arab. In the second half of the war, after the advance of the Arab armies was halted, a deliberate policy of expelling the Arabs became a war aim on its own.

POPS10 Books That Screwed Up The World "From Machiavelli's The Prince to Karl Marx's The Communist Manifesto to Alfred Kinsey's Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, these "influential" books have led to war, genocide, totalitarian oppression, family breakdown, and disastrous social experiments. And yet these authors' bad ideas are still popular and pervasive--in fact, they might influence your own thinking without your realizing it. Here with the antidote is Professor Benjamin Wiker. In his scintillating new book, 10 Books That Screwed Up the World (And 5 Others That Didn't Help), he seizes each of these evil books by its malignant heart and exposes it to the light of day. "

POPSEternalism, Nihilism: new forms, old superstition <<<Throughout the Buddha's long period of teaching the Dhamma to His followers, He actively discouraged speculative arguments. During the 5th century B.C. India was a veritable hive of intellectual activity where scholars, yogis, philosophers, kings and even ordinary householders were constantly engaged in the philosophical arguments pertaining to human existence. Some of these were either ridiculously trivial or totally irrelevant. Some people wasted valuable time arguing at great length about all manner of subjects. They were far more concerned about proving their powers in mental gymnastics than seeking genuine solutions to the problems that beset humanity.>>>

POPSBaby Boomers unprepared to meet Financial Advisors I am sure there are many professional financial planners who will help these unprepared baby Boomers. But I believe there are many more who see Baby Boomers as a way to maintain their own lifestyle. Watch out for high percentage based fees, hidden charges, presentations on long term survival based on the flaw of average returns, misuse of overly optimistic Monte Carlo Simulations, no strategy to limit losses and many more dangers. These are covered in my eBook "What Every Baby Boomer should know about protecting their nest Egg in Retirement". Be prepared for your meeting with your financial adviser.

POPSCounter-terror cops tote machine guns in the subways in new crackdown
Is this really the world you want to live in? I don't by the crap that this is the world we have been given by the "terrorists" this is a world we have allowed those in power to foist upon us; one more example of perpetual infatileism or if you prefer perpetual child hood in which the state takes all of your freedoms in exchange for the perception of safety. We have become weak and pathetic, people gladly laying down their freedoms because of a perceived evil. Here's a bit of news for you...there has always been risk and danger in the natural world, that is what has insured the survival of our species, the ability to confront danger individually and survive, or die trying. Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. --Franklin We are a weak and apathetic people, chasing the illusions of wealth and comfort and willingly giving up our unalienable rights...we WILL live to regret our apathy

POPSLife on the edge That throws up a tricky problem for engineers sending space craft to explore these alien worlds. What if the craft were to carry its own cargo of Earth microbes which set up home there? One major problem for any accidental interplanetary microbe would be how to survive the punishing radiation bombardment in space. Most would be rapidly frazzled en route. Most, but not all. Deinococcus radiodurans, nicknamed "Conan the Bacterium", is listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the "world's toughest bacterium". By rapidly replacing its DNA, it can survive cold, dehydration, vacuum, acid and a hefty radiation dose. Its Latin name means "terrifying berry that withstands radiation".
