POPSCommunity Organizers
I know what community organizers do. I have friends and family who are involved with social work and community organization. They register people to vote. They get people involved with the political process. They know the real, day-to-day problems of the people in their community like the back of their hand. They help people with their life problems, helping elderly folks keep the lights on and helping gro ups with a significant problem get organized enough to get the attention of an alderman or city hall. The people on the ground, the "community organizers" and very local politicians, do a ton of good work for the people of this country. And through that process, they gain a deep understanding of the real problems and thoughts of everyday people. I held out hope that during the Convention, I could get a real grasp on where the Republican Party was.Last night, Sarah Palin gave a speech that was in theory meant to get people like me excited about the Republican ticket.

POPSVictory by Intimidation Where does Barack Hussen Obama stand on the issue of the First Amendment? I think we know where his supporters stand.

POPSRight-wing Propaganda against Obama gets into gear Notice that vile woman (snake?) Michelle Malkin is a contributor, along with Mr. excitement himself, Unca Fred T. These people are vile propagandists, liars and disgusting, obscene purveyors of an agenda that will only foster hatred. I got a very ugly letter out of the blue from this rag.

POPSObama On Rosenberg’s WGN Talk Radio: Ayers is Off-Limits! Callers demanded to know why Rosenberg was “giving air time” to Kurtz to “slander” the Democrats’ presidential nominee. Rosenberg stood firm on his decision to have Kurtz on his show and insisted his staff tried getting someone from the Obama campaign to come on to refute Kurtz to no avail. Obama callers were not satisfied with Rosenberg’s explanation and continued demanding answers from the host while excoriating Kurtz . Obama Campaign HQ are .25 mile from WGN radio station.

POPS Peace activist Abie Nathan dies, aged 81 - respect "Nathan burst onto the world of Middle East diplomacy in 1966 with a dramatic solo flight to Egypt in a rattletrap single-engine plane, more than a decade before Israel and Egypt signed a peace treaty. Although he failed in his initial bid to talk peace with the Egyptians, his daredevil escapade won the affection of many Israelis and launched a long and often eccentric one-man crusade to end the Arab-Israeli conflict."

POPSFreedom and Jeff: Inspiring Story of One Man and His Eagle
She was going to be put down that Friday, and I was supposed to come in on that Thursday afternoon. I didn’t want to go to the center that Thursday, because I couldn’t bear the thoughtof her being euthanized; of her being euthanized; but I went anyway, and when I walked in everyone was grinning from ear to ear. I went immediately back to her cage; and there she was, standing on her own, a big beautiful eagle. She was ready to live. I was just about in tears by then. That was a very good day. We knew she could never fly, so the director asked me to glove train her. I got her used to the glove, and then to jesses, and we started doing education programs for schools in western Washington. We wound up in the newspapers, on radio (believe it or not) and some TV. Miracle Pets even did a show about us. In the spring of 2000, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. I had stage 3, which is not good (one major organ plus everywhere) doing 8 months of chemo.

POPSU.S. refuses Israel weapons to attack Iran: report The result of this difference over weapons will be of little interest if the Jews go nuclear. Good that America says no. ( I thought the Jews were given the Holy Land to look after it, not as a base for wars based on paranoia.)

POPSSlavery Gets Shit Done Ye shall know them by their fruit. It's not hard to imagine what sort of values young master Schaffer was raised with. Maybe he has a future in conservative talk radio.

POPSToby Keith: Obama Talks, Acts and Carries Himself as a Caucasian So it seems that the idea of "acting white" isn't confined to blacks. midknightryder13 commented at Huffington Post: n the musical "My Fair Lady" (and for that matter 'Pygmalion', the play on which it is based) -- Henry Higgins laments "Why Can't the English Learn How to Speak." The point of the song (and for that matter the premise of the play) is that the way one carries oneself and speaks is indicative of one's social class. However, Toby Keith has apparently fallen in with the incorrect assumption that class divisions are solely a function of ethnicity. Such treacle. BO is carrying himself and acting as befits someone who has been educated at Harvard. Speaking 'proper English', carrying himself with bearing and dignity. That's not 'white' -- that's IVY LEAGUE! Gee, a HARVARD GRADUATE 'acting' like he's Ivy League. Go figure.

POPSRepublicans are back in Romper Room AGAIN! Back in July of 2003, I made a page referring to A Republican Romper Room. I have always thought the "R" party quite childish with their infantile rhetoric, and here we are in 2008 and they are back in ROMPER ROOM AGAIN! . Why don't they just GROW UP and maybe together we can finally have a world run by adults. WHAT? Not if the Republican Party has anything to do with it! POPS"A Bridge Too Far" For the past two weeks, Obama has moved quickly toward the center. He has reversed his previous positions for gun control, against using faith based institutions to deliver public services, against immunity for tele-communications companies that turn records over to the government in terror investigations, for raising Social Security taxes, for imposing the Fairness Doctrine on talk radio, and a host of other issues. In his effort to move to the center, Obama has distorted his own record, meager though it may be, and is taking credit for a program he strongly opposed. http://www.newsmax.com/morris/obama_ad_/2008/07/07/110599.html

POPSObama’s Weakness With Voters: Democrats Problem With White Voters
has become the hot topic among many who say racial bias explains it. Of course it would be naive to believe that race is not a factor in America today. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Mr. Obama’s relative weakness among white voters is solely, or even mainly, due to the fact that he is black and that three quarters of voters this year will be white. In 1991, when I wrote a book about how the Democrats were failing to deal with their white voter problem, I ran into a number of editors who wanted to know why anyone would care — and not too subtly wondered whether looking at the reasons for their disaffection might be too politically touchy. White voters, as a group, are more likely to favor a limited role for government here at home and a more aggressive posture overseas. In general, polls show Democrats — and a disproportionate share of black voters — favor a smaller, less adventurous military and a larger role for government on the domestic front.

POPSBush Calls Out the Dems Next was ANWR, which can be exploited with "virtually no impact on the land or local wildlife." Finally, refining capacity: It has been 30 years since a new refinery was built in our Nation, and lawsuits and red tape have made it extremely costly to expand or modify existing refineries. The result is that America now imports millions of barrels of fully refined gasoline from abroad. This imposes needless costs on American families and drivers. It deprives American workers of good jobs. Finally, Bush laid the problem once again at the Dems' door: I know Democratic leaders have opposed some of these policies in the past. Now that their opposition has helped drive gas prices to record levels, I ask them to reconsider their positions. If congressional leaders leave for the Fourth of July recess without taking action, they will need to explain why $4-a-gallon gasoline is not enough incentive for them to act. Excellent stuff. We need to do this every single day.
