POPSDisabled Vets Shun McCain in Las Vegas Still obsessing over the privatization of the VA for some reason, John McCain is poised to lose the veterans' vote for good. In fact, in response to his Saturday speech to the DAV, Iraq War veteran and double-amputee Tammy Duckworth had this to say about McCain's proposals: "John McCain has said that improving veterans' health care would be his top domestic priority as President, yet he has repeatedly voted against increased funding for veterans health care. And now he offers up an plastic card option that will lead to privatization of veterans health care. No one knows how to help and heal veterans like veterans -- had I ended up in a regular hospital after returning from Iraq, I would lost my arm. McCain's plan will only hurt the VA and our veterans more than they are already hurting."

We have seen this administration fabricate the threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction and allege, despite all evidence to the contrary, a relationship between Iraq and al-Qaida. These lies dragged our country into a preemptive and unjustified war that has taken the lives of more than 4,000 U.S. troops, injured 30,000 more, and will cost our nation more than a trillion dollars. We watched as this administration again undermined national security by manipulating and exaggerating evidence of Iran's nuclear weapons capabilities and openly threatened aggression against Iran, despite no evidence that Iran has the intention or capability of attacking the U.S. We have looked on in horror as the administration suspended habeas corpus by claiming the power to declare any person an "enemy combatant," ignoring the Geneva Convention protections that the U.S. helped create. We have seen torture and rendition of prisoners in violation of international law and stated American policy and

POPS36 Congress Members for Impeachment The Cheney impeachment is really gaining momentum. I hope they impeach all of them; the US needs to restore it's image with other countries. A great deal of damage control is needed, so I just wish they would move faster before Bush writes some more "executive orders" and the dictatorship prevails.

POPSGays Say Farewell to Tammy Faye Tammy Faye became a gay icon because of her sense of fairness towards homosexuals and because of her strength and courage under personal, professional and ultimately, medical duress. Gay men love strong and courageous women. The ultimate gay icon, as many of us know, was Judy Garland. Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday, Carol Channing are a few of the other woman who commanded the respect and adoration of the gay community. Tammy Faye exemplified courage and a sense of strong purpose in her life. And although she did become involved in a phony religious scam with her former husband, Jim, she decided to pick herself up, admit her faults and guilt, and build a new life for herself. At this she succeeded admirably.
