POPSOpen Mouth, Insert Bill Either Americans will come out of this election with a greater distaste for McCain (most certainly Republicans) or just everyone on Capitol Hill. The dust could be settled Thursday with another vote.

POPSThe Failed Bailout's Fallout for McCain "I went to Washington last week to make sure that the taxpayers of Ohio and across this great country were not left footing the bill for mistakes made on Wall Street and in Washington," McCain said at a campaign rally in the swing state of Ohio. McCain shows up in DC, has a few conversations with Congressional leaders, is seen walking through a lobby in the congressional building and tries to create the illusion that he brokered an economy-saving deal. It was all smoke and mirrors. Worse, there was no deal. McCain had no sway with the House Republicans. He failed to deliver what he promised. That failure is fair game.

POPSMcCain rushes to Washington, never shows up After bragging "not my style to simply phone it in" McCain never appears on Capitol Hill Fri or Sat after rushing back from debate. Why? Aide Mark Salter: he "can... do what he needs to do by phone."

POPS"John McCain's Journey from Maverick to Liar" "For 18 months, Obama has wagered all his chips on the (quaint? idealistic? brilliant?) idea that the American people are tired of the same old sleazy and divisive politics. McCain has now chosen to bet against him."

POPSGOP Sells $3 Obama Bill At Washington State Fair MONROE, Wash. -- The head of the Snohomish County Republican Party is apologizing after volunteers sold fake $3 bills depicting Sen. Barack Obama in traditional Arab headgear, with a camel. The volunteers were manning the Snohomish County GOP's booth at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe, according to the Herald of Snohomish County. The bills identify the likely Democratic nominee for president as "Da Man" and show signatures for "Teddy Kennedy, Chief Socialism Advisor," and "Al Sharpton, New Spiritual Advisor." Snohomish County Republican Party chairwoman Geri Modrell told The Herald that she called volunteers in the booth to have it removed when she first heard about it on Tuesday. "I want to apologize to anyone upset or offended by seeing it," she told the paper.

POPSJohn McCain, Friend of Monopolies I think there are two reasons McCain invokes Teddy Roosevelt. 1. Roosevelt wasn't a Republican in the modern sense, but a Republican in the original sense -- i.e., a progressive. McCain hopes to signal some that his "maverick" label actually means something. 2. Teddy Roosevelt is the one face on Mt. Rushmore that Americans know the least about. In the end, I'd say it's more 2 than 1.

POPSWe Like Ike? Not At Denver's Brown Palace Hotel and Spa
Eisenhower Presidential Suite Dumped Renamed Barack Obama Suite Shannon Dexheimer, public relations manager for The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa, recently explained that the reason for renaming the suite, was that the hotel, “wanted to do it to symbolize honoring him as the candidate for the Democrats, and honoring the fact that we played such a huge role 100 years ago when this convention (Democrat) was here last." The hotel has four named suites, three presidential suites, the Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and Teddy Roosevelt, and a suite named for the Beatles in honor of their one night stay in the hotel in August, 1966. There are also several unnamed suites on the eighth and ninth floors of the hotel. Why take a chance at angering half the voting public, by making the switch? Only the management at the Brown Palace can answer that, but the smart thing would have been to temporarily turn one of several other unnamed suites into the Obama Suite.
