POPSObama Bloggers To Forgive His FISA Vote.
A friend of mine (A Democrat convert, to Ron Paul's defunct bid for "R" nomination) wrote me the following on clipmark "The Thrill Gone For Obama Supporters?" ------ WAY worse than any little symbolic pin would by his vote supporting immunity for the telecoms and supporting all the more spying on the American people - clear violation of the 4th Amendment That should tell you that he is coming from the same love of executive power in support of corporate power over people power and considering rights dispensable for a greater "good." Judy --- My response: Judy, I know he caved on the (H.R. 6304 ) and that's a big deal but I won't cross him off my list... better Obama than McCain and I refuse to waste my vote on someone I know, without a doubt, will not win and perhaps will help McCain win (god forbid!)... Obama is our only chance at the moment and I won't thumb my nose at that. More Here: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/07/obamas-fisa-shi.html thinkingblue blog

POPSAmeriKKKa has turned the corner. The idea that once was, is a hallow shell of Right Wing Extemism. Where are the ideals that once constituted the freedom and democracy? Under the marching feet of an army, fighting not for ideals, but mere consumerism and profiteering at all cost. We have reached the lowest common denominator. Torture, secrecy, spying, incarcerations without warrants, changing the rules to protect those that break the laws. The end is nearer than we like to think. No more democracy and " We The People". Only corporate freedom to exploit the world with our armies backing. Obama is out!!!!!! Don't vote!!! Stay away from this scam.

POPSSenate Approves Telecom Immunity & Spy Bill Proof the democrats (e.g. Obama) are not safer than the neocon controlled republicans: 4th Amendment trampled, violators now immune. This is not "compromise", but capitulation. For more indepth interview with the Telecom (AT&T) technician and whistleblower who discovered Americans were being spied on, listen to the Democracy Now interview here.

POPSBrits suffer from metal theft For a long time South Africans have suffered from metal theives. A few months ago we were without electricity for two days, not because of Eskom load shedding, but because of cable theft. Twenty years ago the aluminium railings were nicked from a railway bridge down the road, over four separate nights, and no one heard a thing. Cell phones have mitigated the inconvenience of telephone cable theft, but it can still disrupt Internet access. And many have been late for work because of the theft of railway signal cables. Now, it seems, the Brits are suffering from the same problem. Will it rile up even the phlegmatic Brits so much that they'll start burning railway carriages and stations when the trains are late?

POPSDemocrats give Bush the powers of a King. The country I live in is not the one I grew up in. The country I was raised to cherish is in the past. These are the proverbial Chinese' "interesting times" we now live in. There was no fight, we gave it away and now must make sense of this strange new frontier.

POPSObama: I'll Fight To Strip Telecom Immunity From FISA It seems absolutely ridiculous that in this day and age we have the two candidates we have in this election. On one side is a man who knows the value of the constitution and i willing to defend it while on the other is a man who will follow in the footsteps of the President who has been actively dismantling it. How can such an argument even exist? It should almost be a no-contest vote.

POPSFISA Deal Reached That sounds pretty sensible, although I'll need to read the language first to get a sense of what really happened. Stay tuned.

POPSPresident Bush Urges Quick Passage of Wiretapping Bill I'm watchin' on CSPAN the debate on this bill in the House of Reps. Supporters of the House version say this will NOT give Telecoms immunity and make the 4th Amendment (right to privacy, search and siezure) virtually shredding another piece of the Constitution, like the Senate version., but if The Preznut supports it, I have my doubts.

POPSCharging by the Byte to Curb Internet Traffic Think about it--the telecoms have us by the short hairs. They also have immunity (or soon will) from prosecution for helping the Gov't spy on us if they want. We need to speak out about this, wherever possible.

POPSDems Agree to Expand Domestic Spying, Grant Telecoms Amnesty This is the "chilling effect". Once people know they are being spied on, they can no longer speak freely. This is the most unconstitutional thing our government has done, or so I currently believe. Look at that smug s.o.b. That's the grin of a man who just sold his country to the interests of corporate entities. His constituents are the megacorps and not the US public as this move clearly shows.

POPSFISA Legislation: Congress Still Dithering! That bill hit a wall when the trial lawyers asked Pelosi to preserve their chance to earn huge contingency fees in lawsuits against the telecoms alleging the sort of class-action tort claims used to blackmail big companies into high-dollar settlements. These lawsuits aren’t merely the latest evolution in class action ambulance chasing. They are a form of “lawfare”: the use of the courts to interfere in America’s conduct in the war the terrorists are waging against us. The compromise measure reportedly enables the telecoms to obtain civil immunity by showing a court a request for cooperation from the government that assured the company that cooperation was legal. The trial lawyers and several liberal senators, chief among them Wisconsin’s Russell Feingold, are trying to block the compromise. Their amen chorus among the politically-activist media are working hard to help them.

POPSMcCain- The Best Flip-Flopper Yet If anybody remembers today what the man stood for 8 months ago..Compare with today..Yesterday.Any day. If he keeps flip-flopping like that, he won't even remember himself.

POPSMcCain's Two Positions on Wiretaps Yeah, about that position -- it's kinda new and kinda 180 degrees off his previous position. Wonder why? Raw Story : While McCain's position on wiretaps and telcos is zigging this way and that, a new report also details the extent to which lobbyists who earned a living representing the very phone companies accused of breaking the law are now working for his campaign. The Electronic Frontier Foundation, which is leading the charge against telco immunity and representing plaintiffs in several pending lawsuits, lays out the connections ... How awkward...

POPSStudy Tracks People With Cell Phones I spoke with Sandy Pentland at MIT about his studies on this topic recently. But this brings the same idea to a much larger group. It also seems to have taken data from participants who didn't volunteer for the study--a bit shady if you ask me.

POPSAT&T CFO: New iPhone Price Still Secret Or maybe it really hasn't been determined yet. There have been lots of rumors that At&T will apply carrier subsidies to the 3G iPhone. Given the secrecy surrounding Apple product launches, though, it's no surprise that Lindner didn't address that.
