POPSHow Can This Be??? How in the world can a person be a decent, moral person without the promise of heaven or the threat of hell. Just what is this world coming to??? Now I'll carefully remove my tongue from my cheek.

POPSAgnostics and atheists Using this definition (which seems right to me) most atheists I've met are open minded enough to be called agnostic atheists, whereas most theists are (in my experience) pretty close minded gnostic theists; they tend to confuse "believing" and "knowing".

POPSMisconceptions Like many concepts people hold, atheism is often viewed as a belief system filled with dogma and intent on pushing an "agenda". This article may help to dispel this false notion.

POPSa fundamentally mysterious reality This Identifies my own feelings but it does not justify going out and joining a religion, praising or worshiping a deity or supporting those who attempt to force such behavior on the rest of us. The universe is a fundamentally mysterious reality; so leave me alone already!

POPSWhat's the Difference? cont., Once it is understood that atheism is merely the absence of belief in any gods, it becomes evident that agnosticism is not, as many assume, a “third way” between atheism and theism. The presence of a belief in a god and the absence of a belief in a god exhaust all of the possibilities. Agnosticism is not about belief in god but about knowledge — it was coined originally to describe the position of a person who could not claim to know for sure if any gods exist or not.

POPSBritain's (and America's) Secret Religion--Deism
This recent article begins with "the world's most famous atheist" becoming a Deist, i.e. Professor Antony Flew. The reason was this: New scientific discoveries persuaded him, he said, “that intelligence must have been involved” in producing life. In other words, natural reason necessitates belief in a Creator. But the article goes on to describe the difference between Deism, Atheism, and Theism. Any discerning reading (contrary to modern Christian attempts) of America's founders and documents absolute supports that they were not Christians, but Deists, whom, like Thomas Paine, sometimes quoted the Bible, but denied its historical trustworthiness and inspiration, and denied miracles recorded, etc.. It appears Deism is likely to be revived as natural "intelligent design" (which is Deistic, but anti-scriptural philosophy) is made popular and too difficult to deny. Deism is incompatible with Christianity but compatible with Freemasonry, like the Founders.

POPS"Newton Day" In America? as the father of modern philosophy, but since logic and philosophy are not so uniquely Western as science, I’ll let it pass. The real giant of modern Western science, in my mind, is Sir Isaac Newton, whose articulation of the laws of gravitation and motion, and subsequent derivation of Kepler’s laws of planetary motion from those laws, demonstrated that the heavens and the earth all obeyed the same physical laws. While we’re celebrating his contribution, though, we should probably remember Kepler who went before him, and also Galileo Galilei, whose painstaking observation Stephen Hawking believes contributed more to the creation of the modern, natural sciences than anybody else. So, why are we not celebrating Newton Day, Galileo Day, Kepler Day, Copernicus Day, or Augustine Day? It’s because the day we’re being told to celebrate is actually a religious observance by a non-theistic religion, and what they’re celebrating is neither science nor reason.

POPSPredestination, or Free Will? This is a concept of a very different God, one who suffers with the world and doesnt know the future in absolute detail. It is scary too. If God is not omnipotent there seems to be the possibility that evil can gain supremacy.

POPSWhat is Polytheism? I know of no religion that is truly monotheism. If they claim ONE true god they still worship its’ tri-nature.

POPSThe Boogey Man is Gonna Get Ya! According to the review of this new book it seems the author is rehashing the same old discounted arguments over what he dubs the "New Atheism". Using fear and misdirection it seems once again to be a weak attempt to defend the indefensible by a christian apologist.

POPSTheist Quotes - a collection from various forums This doesn't even scratch the surface! Most of it is hilarious, and sad, that people can be so intellectually impoverished. I left off the names because they are probably embarrassing by now, assuming these people have improved their thinking. But the site (and shown here is a very short sample) credits the source and the person (otherwise you might not believe it with your own eyes)!

POPSscience/theology coming together I have only clipped a very short piece but this article goes deeply into the subject. I find my religion needs scientific confirmation or at least is basically rational

POPSWill the Clash of Faiths Go on Forever? Religious conflict rages on, despite claims we live in a "secular age" -- two authors explore the clash of beliefs. This article reviews: Divided by Faith: Religious Conflict and the Practice of Toleration in Early Modern Europe by Benjamin J. Kaplan God's Crucible: Islam and the Making of Europe, 570-1215 by David Levering Lewis

POPSRomney Won't Expose Cult You can be sure that Romney's reluctance to disclose details of his his particular delusion is not an arbitrary decision. If the general public knew details of his wacky beliefs I'm sure they'd all have second thoughts about his ability to make sound, rational choices. Oh wait! You say most of the people here believe in talking snakes and magic fruit? They'll not find the whole Smith scam story suspect? Well, never mind.........

POPSRespect for People - Criticism for Ideas "What is most important in our sharing of beliefs is that we not become judgmental, cynical or mean spirited . No one should suggest that atheists are somehow "bad" or uncaring. Also, no one should suggest that believers are weak minded and living a fantasy. Respect is the operative word." The author is confusing respect for an individual person for respect for an idea. By doing so I suspect he hopes to deflect criticism of theology altogether. A careful reading also indicates that he is getting set up to unveil a defense of Intelligent Design.

POPSWorld "Nut" Daily - Usual Tripe I literally laughed out loud after reading the above statement stating how D'Souza used "science" to refute Hitchens. The WND lives up to its reputation of dogma over intelligence by printing this drivel. The tired argument that D'Souza puts forth relies of the argument of improbability, the stock in trade of the ID/Creationist crowd. Although I expect some mouth breathers might find this so startlingly "scientific" cause it refers to numbers and other sciencey stuff that it'll go over big in the church pews. As far as people with even a rudimentary knowledge of science will discover that this is merely another pseudoscience attempt to refute evolution. It's been discredited in too many sources to list. But hey, it's the World Nut Daily. Enough said...

POPSTheocracy? Is This Good for America? Click on the link and view the embedded video to gain an awareness of the total wackiness of these people. Make no mistake about it, these people are intent on making this a Christian Nation. And if your "brand" of Christianity doesn't conform with what they deem appropriate you're as much on the outside as any non-believer. Maybe those depicted in the video are not of the Fred Phelps ilk, they are much more of a danger because of their numbers and organizational influence in politics. You've been warned!

POPSTheocrasy and Bigotry This anti-gay sentiment seems to be very strong in Africa. With all the problems this poor continent has they really must focus on issues that matter instead of bigoted and backwards notions on sexuality.
