Since 1991, Prestige has pioneered effective new language technologies by responding directly to increasingly diverse client needs. Jefferson Bible reveals Founding Father's view of God, faith
Kelika
by Kelika  7-5-2008    4
"Like many other upper-class, educated citizens of the new republic, including George Washington, Jefferson was a deist. Deists differed from traditional Christians by rejecting miraculous occurrences and prophecies and embracing the notion of a well-ordered universe created by a God who withdrew into detached transcendence. Critics of the time regarded deism as an ill-conceived attempt to reconcile religion with scientific discoveries. For rationalists in the Age of Enlightenment, deism was one of many efforts to liberate humankind from what the deists viewed as superstitious beliefs."

Civilization's First Attack Ads - The Attack Poem
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  4-27-2008    3
Here's a poem he directed at a rival (all translations are from Brooks Haxton's book Dances for Flute and Thunder from Viking Press): Swept overboard, unconscious in the breakers, strangled with seaweed, may you wake up in a gelid surf, your teeth, already cracked into the shingle, now set rattling by the wind, while facedown, helpless as a poisoned cur, on all fours you puke brine reeking of dead fish. May those you meet, barbarians as ugly as their souls are hateful, treat you to the moldy wooden bread of slaves. And may you, with your split teeth sunk in that, smile, then, the way you did when speaking as my friend.

HOW THE CLINTONS WILL DESTROY JOHN MCCAIN Dr. Jack Wheeler
merrie
by merrie  2-4-2008    3
Allegations of this nature have been made over the years, many by Vietnam veterans. There is an even an organization, Vietnam Veterans Against McCain. But they are based on suspicions and circumstantial claims. There has never been any hard direct evidence. What T says the CIA has is such evidence. Its release would destroy McCain. The threat of its release could force McCain to take a fall, blow the election and lose on purpose. And just who do you suppose would know what the CIA has and work with them to release it? Someone who has been a CIA asset since he was recruited by London station chief Cord Meyer while a student at Oxford in 1968? "They all darkly point to Bill's participation in anti-war peace conferences in Stockholm and Oslo, and his trip to Leningrad, Moscow, and Prague while he was at Oxford. We recruited Bill the first week he was at Oxford. Bill's been an asset of The Three Bad Words ever since." h/t lonewacko.com/blog/

Scan Uncovers Thousands of Copycat Scientific Articles
Mohir
by Mohir  2-1-2008
The researchers set their own software tool, called eTBLAST, to identify pairs that were more than 45 percent identical, Errami says. The search turned up more than 70,000 hits, which the researchers and a team of three assistants have been manually checking. So far, Errami says they have gone through close to 3,000 pairs of abstracts or the full articles, if the duplicates have different authors. He notes that some matches were found to be innocent duplications, such as reprints or translations. But in 79 cases (and counting), duplicates with different authors had no obviously legitimate explanation. The group has set up a public Web site, Déjà vu, to document the findings.

New Testament - on Women's rights
AcesLucky
by AcesLucky  1-29-2008    14
So many translations; so many interpretations; but sometimes they all say essentially the same thing... women are second class citizens... thus saith the Lord. Is the word of god "subject to" the culture of the times? Or do we change the interpretation of god's word to fit our sensibilities at the time? Perhaps we create god's word as we go. Certainly our interpretation does.
