Martti Ahtisaari, former President of Finland
benaloy
by benaloy  10-10-2008
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to deserving people like Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa and Mother Terresa of Calcutta, India. May the good Lord give them more strength to 'make this world better place', U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said. May God save us from 'greedy politicians' is what I pray for, benaloy.

Mugabe Is Frankenstein, Says Tutu
merrie
by merrie  6-25-2008
Mr Tutu said it was crucial the international community didn't leave any intervention too long. "Rwanda happened despite all the warnings that the international community was given, they kept holding back and today we are regretting that we did not, in fact, act expeditiously," he said. "I hope in this case we are not going to wait until several more people have been killed. "We are seeing a situation which is deteriorating rapidly, where people are being held to ransom, a country is being held to ransom and in many ways a continent and even a world is being held to ransom by one person who is thumbing his nose at the international community."

How to Write Aphorisms
Kore7
by Kore7  1-26-2008    11
Delacroix, Eugene (France, 1798-1863) To be a poet at twenty is to be twenty; to be a poet at forty is to be a poet. According to James Geary, editor of the compendium Geary's Guide to the World's Great Aphorists , a truely memorable, quotable aphorism satisfies five laws: It must be brief. It must be definitive. It must be personal — that's the difference between an aphorism and a proverb. It must be philosophical — that's the difference between an aphorism and a platitude, which is not philosophical.... And the fifth law is it must have a twist. And that can be either a linguistic twist or a psychological twist or even a twist in logic that somehow flips the reader into a totally unexpected place. Now you know, so get to work! :)

Nobel Peace Prize Al Gore-5/2 Burmese Sangha-5/1?
merrie
by merrie  10-10-2007    2
Award Burmese Monks Nobel Peace Prize online petition http://www.petitiononline.com/nobel007/petition.html "What has Algore done for world peace? My "vote" goes for the Burmese Sangha" The dignified spirituality, the refusal of alms, the passive submission to torture and even death at the hands of a jackbooted military—those wily sangha are pulling every cheap stunt in the Peace Prize playbook. The smart money still says Gore will win, but what chance does a former vice president of the United States—one who, while more or less running environmental policy for President Clinton, yapped endlessly about the problem and sacrificed not a penny of political capital to help solve it—have against thousands of bald-headed guys waving empty bowls over their heads?
