Nuns, Congressional candidate, Declared to be Terrorist.
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  10-11-2008    3
This is what happens when you begin spying on all citizens without need for warrants or any controls at all, which has been typical of the Bush White House. Things like approving torture, holding prisoners in jail for years and years -- indefinite detention -- deprived of all legal rights, not allowed to communicate with their families who might not even know where they went, deprived of visits even from the Red Cross. It's one step at a time. It's doing things like this we've never done before -- war crimes. First to foreigners, then it seeps into doing it to your own. Easily done, next, one candidate for Congress arranges to get another candidate for Congress put on the list. Someone in office doesn't like someone: Put him on the list, etc. Spy on nun's because they're against the death penality. Spy on other political views you don't like - even though the people involved Have Absolutely Nothing To Do With Violence or Terrorism. Step by step into real fascism. Vote

Don't Ignore the Violence Against Women's Act
Delilah1234
by Delilah1234  10-5-2008    2
As an example, Kathleen Savio, Drew Peterson's third wife, demanded justice. She wrote letters to the Will County State's Attorney's Office regarding her dangerous and life threatning situation. She contacted police. Her letters and pleas fell on deaf ears. After the death of Kathleen Savio, the family continued to demand answers. The door of the legal system was slammed in their face. It would take Stacy Peterson to vanish before relatives of Kathleen's such as who shared documents with Fox News and Greta that an outside medial exaimner was hired to determine the cause of death.

Ruffled Feathers or Legal Bowel Movement?
Delilah1234
by Delilah1234  10-4-2008    1
With so many "high profile" crimes against women in Will County, IL, you would think those who live there would be lining the streets in protest. Fact. If we reduce the number of domestic violence cases, give women the protection in the legal system, there would be a vast reduction in the number of women missing and murdered.

"Oaxaca de Juarez, Oaxaca. Thursday, September 25 Justice for our sister Marcella Sali Grace! Brother and sisters, Our hearts are full of sadness and rage because our sister Sali was brutally raped and murdered 20 minutes from San Jose del Pacifico and up to this moment the Oaxacan Attorney General's Office, as is its custom, is not doing anything regarding the fact that there exist witnesses who have information to identify those responsible.  "That’s why when Senator Joseph Biden, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, drafted the 1994 Violence Against Women Act, he included provisions to make states ineligible for federal grant money if they charged rape victims for exams and the kits containing the medical supplies needed to conduct them. (Senator John McCain, Ms. Palin’s running mate, voted against Mr. Biden’s initiative, and his name has not been among the long list of co-sponsors each time the act has been renewed.)"

Violence Against Women - or Fatherhood and Men?
ChicagoLynn
by ChicagoLynn  8-28-2008
Since the inception of the Violence Against Women Act in 1994, the domestic violence industry has had over ten years to solve, or improve, the problem of domestic violence in our society. Billions and billions of dollars have been spent to create a fat, bloated bureaucracy that appears at times to have done as much to harm to the lives of women as it has done to help, and soon that bureaucracy will be asking for more money. Please see eluris.typepad.com/best_interests or contact ajt@web20mates.com for more information.

Lanny Davis: "We were wrong"
willhelm

Thank You, Lannie. It is great to see there are still stand-up people on the left. From article: "Maybe another democracy, however imperfect, other than Israel in the Middle East could lead to more moderation, possibly other democracies? Democracies that could serve as bulwarks against al Qaeda-type of terrorist states?" "And then in early 2007 came the Surge, which so many of us in the anti-war left of the Democratic Party predicted would be a failure, throwing good men and women and billions of dollars after futility. We were wrong." "The surge did, in fact, lead to a reduction of violence, confirmed by media on the ground as well as our military leaders."

Women
dulios
by dulios  7-9-2008    3
With the horror of the recent "honor" killing in Georgia as the backdrop, I'm inspired to remind everyone that women die at the hands of male family members every day in the US. In fact, 4 times a day. I'm tired of the Right acting like they really care about women and gender equality. The only mention of women in the 2004 Republican platform is their insistence that if a woman gets pregnant, by law she'll stay that way until delivery. I went to a number of right wing websites and typed the words "violence against women" into their search engines. If any stories were listed at all, they were about honor killings in the Muslim world. The Right wrap their "concern" for women in the cloak of anti-Islamic rhetoric concerning honor killings and are dumb, deaf, and blind to all else. Enough. Islam is not the problem. Patriarchy is.

This reporter, who was with the group of students, did not see any indication of sniper fire, nor was the sound of any gunfire audible before the Guard volley. Students, conceding that rocks had been thrown, heatedly denied that there was any sniper. Gov. James A. Rhodes called on J. Edgar Hoover, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to aid in looking into the campus violence. A Justice Department spokesman said no decision had been made to investigate. At 2:10 this afternoon, after the shootings, the university president, Robert I. White, ordered the university closed for an indefinite time, and officials were making plans to evacuate the dormitories and bus out-of-state students to nearby cities.

Bush's Child Prostitutes, 1.2M as young as 13

by righthand  3-18-2008    2
Bush's invasion of a country that posed no threat to the US was illegal under both US and international law, according to legal experts. Bush has been convicted of war crimes by citizen tribunals around the world, including New York, Paris, Tokyo, and Istanbul. Just las week, the towns of Brattleboro and Marlboro Vermont voted to indict and arrest Bush and Cheney. In 2002 and 2003, Bush led a propaganda campaign to defraud Congress, the American people, and key allies into believing Iraq was a threat. Bush claimed Iraq had stockpiles of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons to use against the US, and was sharing them with Al Qaeda. Speaking near Rochester NY, Bush later admitted, "See in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda." ...AlterNet
