POPSCracking Open The Cybercrime Economy
"Over the years, the criminal elements, the ones who are making money, making millions out of all this online crime, are just getting stronger and stronger. I don't think we are really winning this war." While law enforcement co-operation with government and the IT community is paramount in addressing the problem in the short term, longer-term solutions must be found. One way to address the issue of the growth of the "black cybereconomy" in the long term is to harness the IT talent in developing countries that otherwise might be co-opted into illegal activity, say security experts. "We have to make it more attractive to be in the white economy than in the black--when that happens we will turn a corner. We're starting to see that happen as companies look to less expensive economies as places to put people. In Eastern Europe and Asia there are highly skilled people where there are less opportunities--this is where the black economy is fueled now," said McAfee's Telafici.

POPSSunbelt Software: Google search results delivering massive malware attacks Crackers rigging web pages to gain high search rankings, enabling them to be posted near the top of the search thread. Best defense is to ensure you are surfing the web from a non-privileged account and to have a hardened browser (Firefox with the 'No Script' add-on, for instance). For IE, need to consider disabling iFrames.

POPSKaspersky Antivirus - It works even when it's not working. I decided to give Kaspersky a try since I've never been totally happy with Norton/Symantec... Right away, I had a problem with it, in that my PocketPC couldn't connect. I couldn't find a way to fix that via settings, somehow it is "protecting me" from my own Pocket PC, sigh.... So I disabled it, and the PocketPC came right up as it should. Then I went to sleep. Now here I am today on the PC and it has found 8 files with viruses or adware inside that Norton/Symantec hadn't found. So I don't know if I should be happy or sad. It found stuff, great! But, it's disabled... WHAT??? I'm confused.
