POPSAnd the exploitation continues The only reason McCain chose her is to get female voters, which he personally couldn't care less about. Obama campaign calls her a candidate with "the thinnest foreign policy experience in history" As if Obama's foreign policy experience is any more extensive. We are so screwed.

POPSGod Did It Just as we often react negatively towards religious driven policy in the Muslim world we ignore the blatant religious pandering in the USA. It has become pro forma to invoke God's blessing on the US after all speeches. Little thought is given to the substantial segment of the population who doesn't subscribe to this viewpoint. A cynic might think all the public posturing is being done solely for votes. And they may not be too far off the mark.

McCain advisers this past week have been meeting with social conservatives to gauge opposition to those picks, and they've been warned of a brewing revolt that could include a walkout at the Republican National Convention next week and a huge battle on the floor -- especially if the pick is the Independent Democrat Lieberman. A recent ABC News/Washington Post poll found if John McCain were to pick a running mate who favors legal abortion, it could cost him votes, particularly in some core Republican groups. Among current McCain supporters, 20 percent said they'd be less likely to vote for McCain if he picked a candidate for vice president who favors abortion rights.

POPSObama: Nothing More Than a Shrewd and Opportunistic Partisan
He could have joined the bipartisan “Gang of 14” that negotiated a halt to divisive judicial nominations, but didn't. He could have been a leader for bipartisan compromises on immigration, terrorist surveillance and energy, but wasn't. According to a Washington Post database, Obama votes with his party 96 percent of the time, which makes him tied for the eleventh most partisan member of the Senate. At 96.6 percent, his running mate Joe Biden is the eighth most partisan senator. In his next political act, he dispensed with centrism and the great middle ground of American politics and espoused the politics of “change” — change in pastors, change in churches and calculated changes in his positions on NAFTA, gun control and much else. But all those convention antics pale in comparison to the change in the man who, four years ago, briefly fired the imaginations of Americans tired of the extremes of partisan politics. That Obama has left and gone away, if he ever really existed.

POPSUnity Realized: Hillary Nominates Obama In an incredibly unifying and symbolic moment during the New York state delegate roll call, Senator Hillary Clinton asks for a suspension of the vote and requests the nomination of Barack Obama by acclamation. RIP “Democratic Disunity” meme.

POPSPelosi's Shameful Record of Voting Against Military Despite the calls for improved military absentee voting procedures by the people affected most, not a single Democrat crossed the aisle to co-sponsor a bill introduced by Rep. Roy Blunt that would have created a clearer path to having absentee military ballots counted in the 2008 election and beyond. Democrats, led by Speaker Pelosi, ultimately killed efforts to improve GI suffrage instead of working to extend the most basic democratic right to the men and women serving our country overseas. America is not fooled by Pelosi's empty words. Retired U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Charles Henry wrote in the July issue of the U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings: 'While virtually everyone involved...seems to agree that military people deserve at least equal opportunity when it comes to having their votes counted, indications are that in November 2008, many thousands of service members who try to vote will do so in vain.' (Washington Post, 7/24/08)

POPSElectronic Voting? Perhaps Not! Without paper back-up, this coming election may just be filled with fraudulence again. If there is no paper to back the results up, we may as well toss a coin. Democracy is at the stake and burning.

POPSObama's "Carefully Nuanced Refinements" Obama could have picked Hillary Clinton, who received 18,000,000 votes. (He would have done so, by the way, without sacrificing his desire to have a Vice President with strong national security and foreign policy credentials on the ticket.) That works out to 2,000 votes for Clinton for every one vote Senator Biden got.

POPSObamacans: True Independent Voters Great blog! This is a breath of fresh air in the middle of lots of hot air. Who cares when some reporter got a text saying Joe Biden was Obama's pick? This site is about substance and dialogue - I highly recommend it!

POPSThe Freedom Index To learn how any representative or senator voted on the key measures described herein, look him or her up in the vote charts. The scores are derived by dividing a congressman’s constitutional votes (pluses) by the total number he cast (pluses and minuses) and multiplying by 100.

POPSLYING FORWARDS FROM THE RIGHTWING My niece sent me this email and asked me the following... Hey Aunt C, Somebody sent this to me and I know you are fantastic at finding the truth, so is this true or some republican trying to change peoples votes. Thanks, (Niece) LINK HERE: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/taxes.asp Hi, (Niece). it is completely false... Thanks for asking... I wish that others would question this baloney the republican rightwing sends around to the naive, who mindlessly accept these stupid forwards as the truth... A sad America, where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, (and the middle class continues to disappear) is the result of such irrationality... The very ones who get hurt by these forwards are the ones who would probably be helped if the wealthy, whether they be individuals or corporations were forced to pay their share of taxes, instead of getting tax breaks that the republican party keep giving them. http://thinkingblue.blogspot.com

POPSWhoring for Her Big Wind Investments Naturally, the Pickens Big Wind plan is proudly endorsed by Do-Nothing Pelosi’s friends at the obstructionist Sierra Club. Through another company, Mesa Power, Pickens has committed upwards of $12 billion in wind farms on the Texas panhandle. CEFC and Mesa Power are separate entities. But what benefits one piece of the Pickens puzzle benefits them all. The wind venture, as Pickens himself acknowledges, depends on permanent federal subsidies. Speaker Pelosi bought between $50,000 and $100,000 of stock in Pickens’ CLNE Corp. in May 2007 on the day of the initial public offering: “She, and other investors, stand to gain a substantial return on their investment if gasoline prices stay high and municipal, state and even the Federal governments start using natural gas as their primary fuel source. If gasoline prices fall? Alternative fuels and the cost to convert fleets over to them becomes less and less attractive.”
