POPSDrug Policy Reforms Coming Was anything learned from the Prohibition era? Marijuana simply became a latest flavor. The costs of enforcement, incarceration and human lives too high and fruitless. The profiteers are winning, not society. Treatment of drug abuse and legalization a win/win solution.

POPSUSA vs. Libya: War Ain't War No More It's a sad and clear fact: Our military is out-of-control. We've become invaders, we're fighting around the world and this makes clear that democracy, a consideration of the people's vote, a debate in Congress, a vote by Congress, an 'old fashioned' Constitutionally required Declaration of War is no longer necessary, the war mongers and war profiteers claim. Thus, it's official. We're a war mongering, murderous, out-of-control imperialist power.

POPSChallenging Obama's Anti-Progressivism After eight Bush/Cheney/Republican years, Americans wanted change. Out with the old. In with the new. Everything changed but stayed the same. In fact, it worsened with perhaps greater harshness coming in Obama’s next two years, including escalated imperial wars, neoliberal austerity, greater than ever impoverishment, desperation and despair, as well as hardened repression to curb popular anger. On December 6, the New York Times reported Obama’s capitulation to Republicans on extending the Bush tax cuts for the super-rich on income, capital gains, and dividends. Also on their federal estate tax that lapsed at the start of 2010. Despite their rhetorical disapproval, congressional Democrats will likely concur, while at the same time agreeing to deep austerity cuts for working Americans. Obama again showed his allegiance to wealth and power.

POPSSir Ian Gilmore calls for Drug Decriminalsation As outgoing president of the Royal College of Physicians his opinions should carry some clout, especially when they show basic common sense - prohibition just doesnt work for anyone but the criminals, who depend on drugs being forced into the black market. The new legislation outlawing previously 'legal highs' could well have been sponsored by criminal interests. Obviously prohibition has failed to quell demand, and where there is demand there will be supply - either criminal (encouraging black market) or regulated (and therefore clean, - and taxable..).
