POPSThe Afghanistan Report by By Ikram Sehgal The population can also be a source of strength and intelligence and provide resistance to the insurgency. Alternatively, they can often change sides and provide tacit or real support to the insurgents. Communities make deliberate choices to resist, support or allow insurgent influence. The reasons for these choices must be better understood." The report addresses corruption and abuse of power but it does not give it the primary weightage it should. Karzai and his lot should not remain in power even a day. Abdullah would probably be worse. In the eight years since the Taliban were deposed in November 2001, "criminality has contributed to a pervasive sense of insecurity among the people. Extensive smuggling diverts major revenues from the government and increases its susceptibility to insurgent penetration. http://www.thenews.com.pk/editorial_detail.asp?id=201008

POPSIn Which Obama Has A General Problem, Just Like A Real President*
The tug-o-war playground politics of the matter aside, there is still the fact of war in Afghanistan, a persistent global threat, and the rapidly diminishing credibility of the United States as a stalwart, moral force in the world, from the limp handling of Iran to the delivery of tribute to Vladimir Putin, and now the dawdling and dithering over the erstwhile good war. For all their squawking about us, the Euros don’t need us to be another EU member. They need someone to do the dirty work. Ditto the Arabs. China and Russia have got to be enjoying this, though. On second thought, there is a sort of double-reverse presidential precedent to this crisis. It’s Obama as McClellan. Not exactly Lincolnesque, but very Lincoln-proximate. Totally related: Victor Davis Hanson at NRO looks at Two-Front Wars, Theirs and Ours and comes away with something other than the currently fashionable doom-and-gloom mongering. It’s al-Qaeda after eight years of war, on the ropes and desperate.

POPSCatherine Crabill, VA GOP Candidate: We May Have To "Resort To The Bullet Box" (VIDEO) UPDATE: Crabill has defended her words in an interview with the Washington Post. "Those are my convictions," Crabill, 52, said in a telephone interview this morning. "I am a full-blooded, freedom-loving American, and what we're seeing in Washington is domestic terrorism at its worst." But as a video of some provocative remarks zipped around the Internet, she also worried that she would be caricatured as an extremist. And she said she wanted to make clear that she was not advocating armed resistance. "I have no desire to see this country erupt in any kind of violent revolution," Crabill said. "I don't even own a gun."

POPSPrison Break Season 4 As we inch closer to the mid-season finale of Prison Break on December 22, am I the only one crying on the inside? Good news is about casting and I am sure it will warm up the heart of even the most jaded of ‘Prison Break’ fans. Charles Westmoreland, who was left to die mid-escape from Fox River at the end of Season 1, is alive and will be back in the December 15 episode of ‘Prison Break’ portrayed by Muse Watson...

POPSLynn Westmoreland Comments On The Obamas But wait there is more: Westmoreland led a group of congressmen who opposed the 2006 renewal of certain provisions in the Voting Rights Act that require nine Southern states and a number of counties (mostly in the South) to obtain Federal permission for certain changes to election law or changes in venue. Westmoreland and his colleagues claimed that it was no longer fair to target their states, given the passage of time since 1965 and the changes their states had made to provide fair elections and voting. Despite Westmoreland's objections, a strong bipartisan majority renewed the Voting Rights Act for another 25 years without changes.

POPSGA GOP congressman calls Obamas "uppity" I don't believe he didn't know that "uppity" was commonly used as a derogatory term. I think it's impossible that somebody born in 1950 who grew up in the segregated South doesn't know that.

POPSWestmoreland calls Obama ‘uppity' Absolutely amazing. To speak in such a snobbish/old money way, would not be tolerated at this level by Australians. A part of the culture that should be changed. And to further show ignorance, L W is shepherded into a world of name calling.

POPSThe Freedom Index To learn how any representative or senator voted on the key measures described herein, look him or her up in the vote charts. The scores are derived by dividing a congressman’s constitutional votes (pluses) by the total number he cast (pluses and minuses) and multiplying by 100.

POPSTHE SEPTEMBER TAP DANCE ON IRAQ: September 10th 2007 - Rep. Wexler comments on Gen. Petraeus testimony... "eerily similar to Westmoreland and Vietnam..." Rep. Ackerman asks Petraeus, the BIG question My question is while we wait for this to happen, how much more blood should we invest? If it takes another four years, I'd like to know from each of you your best, realistically optimistic view of where Iraq will be in those four years. And if it is, that we spend during that time another 4,000 American lives, creat another 20,000 plus people maimed for life, spend another 600 billion dollars, see our military further decimated more than it has been already, will...this...be...worth...it?

POPSDST Changerover causes student to spend days in juvie... Looks like the school and the police are trying to bury it... they feel they were in the right as: County officials said Tuesday that Webb was in custody no longer than the law requires. "Legally, we were OK. We didn't step on this kid's rights," said Mike Sturnick, supervisor for the juvenile probation office. no they just screwed him is all. He doesn't even want to go back to that school again.. it will likely have a negative effect on his year & grades overall & mental stress to boot. But hey, who cares... the didn't step on his rights... How would you feel if you were arrested & detained for days because the police couldn't bother to investigate properly?
