POPS6 Reasons Your Plans to Move Abroad Might Not Work Out The problem here is that not only do America's problems also exist in other countries, a lot of the time they're actually worse. Is the American criminal justice system getting you down? Escape to France, where prisoners have been reduced to eating rats and get to shower twice a week -- oh yeah, and this was inside a prison where only half of the inmates had been convicted of anything. Or Japan, where they can hold you for 23 days without trial in a "substitute prison," while relentlessly interrogating you and depriving you of sleep and food, a system that has led to an extremely high rate of false confessions. Hate American rednecks' racism and xenophobia? Italy, Spain and the U.K. have all had race riots recently. more http://bit.ly/ntRzCt http://www.cracked.com

POPSFeeding the Fear - Keeps You and "them" Down! Why do wannabe and hanging-on politicians feed fear and hate of people defined as "different?" To keep people from figuring out they are getting taken for a ride by the fear-frenzy profiteers. You don't notice that hundreds and hundreds of thousands of jobs have been moved to China to boost the income of a few thousand of America's richest, if you are convinced that it's Mexicans, or Hispanics, or illegals taking your jobs? Before we bailed out GM last year, they built 19 plants in China over the previous 5-10 years. Never noticed that Mexicans were not the ones who took your factory jobs away? That is exactly what the fear mongering is designed to do - keep you from paying attention to what is really hurting your present and future.

POPSLife in the 21st Century: The Movement to Secede from Arizona
the Reconstruction amendments to the U.S. Constitution enter the picture ... The 13th abolished slavery ... The 14th established .."the equal protection of the laws." The 15th said nobody could be denied the right to vote "on account of race, color or previous condition of servitude." The amendments' opponents make their case To wit, we quote in great detail .. a long essay now circulating among right-wing websites : "The validity, or should we say invalidity, of the Civil War amendments is very important to reinstating the inalienable rights of free White citizens in the United States of America. At every juncture where the government of the United States of America and/or the governments of the several states attempt to usurp inalienable rights, the Civil War amendments are ultimately claimed to be the authority for such deprivation of rights." POPSMedved warns against ethnic attacks in Russia Mr. Medvedev’s statement, delivered in steely tones on national television, attempted to rein in unrest that erupted over the weekend. Thousands of young men massed outside Red Square on Saturday, attacking both the police and passersby with the dark complexions of migrants from Central Asia and the Caucasus. Since then, police officials reported a series of beatings and stabbings of nonethnic Russians, often by groups of young people. Mr. Medvedev called for a stop to all unsanctioned street actions.

POPSLiving in the Tea Republic: The right-wing backlash against advancing equality Two farmers apply for a loan. One is white. One is black. Both farmers need to buy a new combine. The door is open for the white farmer simply because he is white. The door is closed for the black farmer simply because he is black. The right wing is fine with that scenario. We now almost expect right-wing pundits to just come out and say that Obama is acting contrary to the interests of white people. When it happens, it's barely noticed by the rest of the media. While that doesn't bode well for the future of journalism, it's even more destructive for the minority groups that find themselves the targets of these attacks. The promise of America is that the rights of the minority and the rights of the majority are one and the same. The right-wing media's destructive and discriminatory rhetoric is meant to ensure that that equality is never realized. more @ clip source

POPSAnchor babies, the Ground Zero mosque and other scapegoats So far, the summer of fear has featured a charge, led by Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin and former New York congressman Rick Lazio, to block the construction of the Cordoba House Islamic cultural center (which is to include a mosque) a few blocks from the site of the World Trade Center. Meanwhile, with frightening speed, we've gone from discussing the prospects for comprehensive immigration reform to watching congressional Republicans call for hearings to reconsider the 14th Amendment's guarantee of citizenship to anyone born in the United States.
